The new version looks a lot better, it properly folds and the hinge is a lot more robust, the battery is in a lot better place and the guard is much better. Your review helped me dodge a bullet, cheers. New ones called the DEWALT DCMST561N-XJ 18v Brushless String Trimmer Bare Unit

My one burnt out after five months of light use. Screwfix replaced it no problem but the warranty with them end after a year of the original strimmer. I think this is correct but it doesn't instil me with confidence about the product.

looking at the latest one the stem is square section with a hinge by the looks. Seems sturdier. My 12 year old mains power cheapo just worn out its bearings, very good run though.

Good information! I'm thinking of buying the newer 18v strimmer but do you know if it can be used with the metal brush cutter blade? I dont believe the string would cut anything much thicker than grass however the 54v version is outside my budget unfortunately

Yes it can have a blade on it. I have done it myself but I did have to use some nonstandard washers etc.

I bought a euberouber sander from said retailer, way after the warranty had ran out the Velcro head disintegrated. Screwfix sell these (the reason I bought it in the first place) however they didn't have any in stock and couldn't say when they would be so gave me a full refund of the tool. I really can't fault them!!

As long as you have your order reference number/receipt it should be fine, usually if its within 30days of purchase and the tool has a genuine fault and its not from misuse/abuse you can get a refund/repair/exchange/store credit, after 30 days it would be repair or store credit. Also nothing is repaired at the store level/screw fix, at least for dewalt/milwaukee etc they are all repaired by approved agents.

Moral of the story & which I've acted on, stop buying from Screwfix. The device could have been easily replaced by most retailers. Screwfix are invariably more expensive than nearly every supplier when doing web site comparisons & their returns policy is diabolical.

I can’t get the guard on! I’m losing the plot with it, I’ve lined the notched up, stuck a thing and and the whole spin strimmer casing unit locks up!
