I used to have a 745 and the noise level totally drove me insane, ended up buying a Triton twx7 workcentre with table saw insert and router insert and its basically just sat in the garage as that is loud aswell. So picked up an old startrite tilt arbour and what a difference in noise levels so happier with that. Hope your feeling better soon bud all the best 👍

I always use ear defenders but i suffer with ear problems anyway so my hearing isnt the best. I expect most powertools to be loud. I would love one with an induction motor but havnt got the money or space for a proper table saw

If you add some wax to the table surface, the work pieces and sleds will tend to mark the surface to a lesser degree.

Hi. Will this fence system fit on the 745 ? I've had the 745 for years ( amazing robust saw) but the it's fence (the plastic part) is really cheap and breaks easily. Your 7491 fence seems a better one.
@GrumpysWorkshop42 жыл бұрын
The 7491 is much bigger than the 745 so the fence wouldnt fit.

Hi David. Good review, that saw will work better than most basic job site saws. It's been well thought out in design and build quality. That riving knife locking mechanism is brill, so quick to change. The saw arbor is nice and long to mount other tooling types. You could do with some oil on the rise and fall slideways to help prevent premature ware to the sliding surfaces, hate the squeaking. Enjoyed the video. Tony

Excellent breakdown of the saw Grumpy and if I'd of seen this 6 months ago I would of definitely spent the extra to upgrade slightly, however I'm still extremely happy with the DW745. Oh and thanks for the mention 😊

Good review Grump. I have the 745 and I'm very happy with it but I'd be even happier with your model, Regards, Fred

Sound levels greatly differ. Sound is measured on a logarithmic scale. That means in layman terms that an increase in 3dB is a doubling of acoustic energy (the energy is what ruins the receptors in your ears)so 745 is quadruple sound energy as the 7491. Standards say 88dbA is acceptable for 8 hours of work. Anything more will cause deafness unless managed with noise suppressors. So just to be clear, if you don't wear earplugs or muffs with a table saw you will go deaf. No doubt, no conspiracy. Share the message with friends

Still looking for a good table saw (I know - SHAME that we don't have one yet). Thanks for the in-depth review; it'll help in our hunt!

Great vid, thanks. Q: how much do you actually use the extra rip capacity of 24'' to 32'' that the smaller 745 wouldnt give you? For cabinet making is it required? Cheers.
@GrumpysWorkshop44 жыл бұрын
Ive used it a few times to cut larger panels. Its not a must have but having the larger surface area sure helps. I was offered this saw for less money then the 745 so it was a no brainer for me. I also like this as it has a lever for removing the rivin knife.

Thanks for the reply. Seem like the 745 is hardly stocked anywhere, at least in Ireland.

that paddle on the saw is much better than the 745, i have that and its a pain sometimes finding the off buton

I still do that on this one

I made a knee paddle for my 745, works a treat. BUT the table top dips in the middle so its a pain to set the blade at 90deg for both sides, and mine makes terrible noise when lovering the blade (like yours), even though I dry oil all the time. Yes it is loud very !!. The large washer on the spindle is slightly slack and the motor spindle and groans and grunts chattering on as it cuts. It has been a nightmare since I bought it 6yrs ago. Cross cutting is fine, but ripping is very difficult, takes ages to rip 2x3. The throat plate on mine releases with quarter turn of the screw, no need to keep unscrewing it.
@kevinwillis67072 жыл бұрын
@@JIMMIX7 sounds like you got a bad one, if dewalt had made another 50 quids worth of improvements that saw would be great, unfortunately looking at reviews its common among small contractor saws to build em cheap. otherwise its small size suits a lot of UK workshops

This is a great video, simple, yet comprehensive, and I'm now annoyed with you as i want to go and get one 😳😆 lol, I love how as it's a job site tool, its stowable nature for fence, guard etc make it ideal for oreos like me that rely on having to store tools, and then wheel them outside to use them as I have a small workshop. Cheers, you've gained a subscriber tonight. 😊👍👏

The blade shaft is big enough. Maybe can hold dado stacks. I have the 745 the shaft is too sort for dado
@GrumpysWorkshop43 жыл бұрын
This shaft will take a dado stack but I won't be using one. Thanks for watching
@alland12413 жыл бұрын
bearing in mind I don't own one, but the length of the shaft is not important, it's the width of the 30mm bearing surface that lets you fit a dado blade

Great comparison, seems like this is a great upgrade from the fabulous 745 saw... still like my "Flappy Paddle" more than that one...but never the less at least Dewalt have given the UK market a better switch and bigger table .....Search Flappy Paddle on Etsy for my store ...

Thats a good review .. one tip dont over tihgten the blade , it's reverse threads. ... All table saws have an arbor that's threaded to self tighten when the blade spins. Pulling the wrench toward the front of the saw should always loosen the nut. If the saw is right tilt and the blade mounts from the left side of the flange, it'll have reverce threads. 😊
@61spindrift4 жыл бұрын
I love when everyone believes they are the authority in whatever is being discussed. Do you even own this saw since you say "it is reversed threads like all saws"? Well I am going to call you out. You do not own this saw do you? Or any table say do you? Because you are completely wrong and making false claims that others read and believe you know what you are talking about. What they don't know is that you do not own this or probably any table saw. Just want to chime in as "the authority". Reason I say this is because you are incorrect. No...you are wrong! This saw does not have reverse threads. And me? No, I am not "the authority" on this saw. However I do own the 7491 and can assure you and the others that come here for information (correct information) that this saw (7491) has conventional threads. I can not comment (with absolute certainty) the 745 has conventional threads but, seeing they are essentially the same saw, would put money on it.

My week old 7491 has a quarter turn quick release for the throat plate. What's your table like regarding flatness? Mine is at least a millimetre high in the centre. I see you have the long spindle on yours (long enough to mount a dado blade). I believe other models don't have that.
@GrumpysWorkshop44 жыл бұрын
Mine is very flat. Im not sure you can use a dado blade in it. Not on the uk version
@TrevorDennis1004 жыл бұрын
@@GrumpysWorkshop4 If your's is the same as mine, and it looks like it is, you have 16mm of spindle extending past the nut, and this for attaching dado blade sets. You can either buy the DeWalt throad plate or make your own. www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DWE7402DI-Throatplate-10-Inch-Portable/dp/B00NJPUYGS Thanks for the feedback about your table flatness. I don't know whether to try and pull it flat or get it changed.
