Interesting results, great vid Tim. Breaking the 450 loose, sort of makes some sense to me. We're seeing very impressive peak/ultimate torque on these, but dynamic torque or force per blow in line with a lot of other top of the line compacts so that does make some sence. Had trouble breaking 400 ourselves sometimes depending on the bolt size. Very impressive tools though, love to see DeWalt's latest stuff be this good.

Honestly I think the 3/8” 923 would have broke that nut loose if it wasn't for the adapter. I understand for that socket size a adapter is needed but adapters and extensions do reduce torque output. Great review

Nevermind, just noticed that the adapter is welded on so it shouldn't make much of a difference

@fredio542 жыл бұрын
The ONLY reason the 3/8 failed where the 1/2 succeeded is the adaptor. Any extra connections or length or whatever between an impact power tool and the thing you're trying to move reduced output significantly by damping the movement and absorbing the energy as heat.

Throw the 5ah battery on them, those 4ah batteries seem to always make the tool feel pretty weak, awesome video nice to see DeWalt stepping on Milwaukee's toes finally
@thehhoff693 жыл бұрын
It's tricky, because actually the 2000mAh cells that make up the 4Ah pack can deliver more power (higher discharge current) than the 2500mAh cells that make up the 5Ah pack. But a higher Ah rating tends to have a lower voltage drop under load, so it may cancel out the power advantage of the 4Ah. Now, going to something like the 6Ah XR pack would definitely make a difference because its 21700 cells can produce even more power, and has more capacity than the 4Ah.

The 3\8 wrench would probably have gotten that second bolt loose if you didn't have the 3\8 to 1\2 inch adapter in between.... You always lose a bit of the impact force when you add extra slop between the bolt and the drive. I imagine the only difference between the 3\8 and 1\2 inch wrench is the output drive size.

It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. Im so confused by Dewalt... they release the Atomic/Home Depot line. They claim it is to make smaller/home gamer tools, but they aren't any smaller than the existing XR tools. They make an impact that is weaker than their 887. They sold a crap ton of these last year. Then a year later they are releasing Atomic line tools that are both smaller and significantly more powerful. Wtf? So is it a weaker/cheaper line that is smaller but not really, or is it actually the more powerful, new professional line using their most advanced engineering to reduce size and increase power?? What is the Atomic line supposed to be??

There's no difference between 1/2 and 3/8 anvils whatsoever. The difference you see is due to the adapter that is causing massive loss of torque. There's a reason those exist with anvils of different size. To prevent exactly that. One should never use any adapters on impact unless there's no other way.

The product claims “up to 450 ft-lbs of max breakaway torque,” which means that’s the limit of its capability, so naturally it took longer to bust that 450 nut. Any impact will take longer to remove a nut that’s torqued to the max breakaway claims of that particular impact. Some impacts can’t even remove nuts torqued to the impact’s advertised max breakaway rating, no matter how long you hold down the trigger.
