Dewalt Concrete Grinder Review
Just a short demonstration of my dewalt concrete grinder. Grinding concrete can be a big mess if done without a dust shroud and vacuum port. So using this setup works really well for keeping the dust down and getting rid of high spots and lumps in the concrete. I had this dewalt concrete grinder hooked up with my ridgid shopvac and oneida dust deputy for dustless conrete grinding and dust control. This was done because I was prepping to do a glue down wood floor.

I’m a Milwaukee guy and trying to find the correct Milwaukee dust shroud to fit my grinder was a pain in the A##. Ended up purchasing the Dewalt grinder and the Dewalt dust shroud. Works fantastic. Definitely and highly recommend it. Plus the Dewalt dust shroud fits the grinder perfectly. Usually your local drywall distributor should carry it. Thanks for the video.

I purchased a used one as the piece is a bit pricey, but the machine kzbin.infoUgkxG6fbm3cHBd7CNTjk5D-dwYe9c9tCB9ZN has surpassed my expectations. We sand small parts by hand often, sized around 1"x1/2," and specifically look for a piece that's designed to be vertical. The motor has plenty of torque and great speed settings. The only inconvenience I had is that the disk measures 5" where we trim 6" stick-and-sand disks down easily by mounting it then cutting with a box cutter.

I think you don't need to sanding the concrete if you want glue something to it will stick anyway but if you want to smooth it out make it level grinding is the option

I purchased this shroud and tried mounting it on several dewalt angle grinders but the collar tabs don't allow the shroud to go on far enough. I called Dewalt and they escalated this up and they didnt have a solution. My Dewalt diamond cup wheel doesnt extend out past the shroud. Do you have any close up shots of the shroud on the tool or suggestions?

Good at keeping dust down. Not a very smooth finish unless that's what you were looking for - lots of swirl marks.

he is glueing down a floor. the same finish is ok for epoxy floor.

My concrete grind disk doesn't seem to sit completely flat. Or maybe I'm not putting enough pressure on it when I grind? Doesn't look like you are putting any pressure on yours at all in your video. I installed a 7 inch grinding disk for grinding concreate. The Disk is from Harbor Frieght.

The grinder came with the dust cover? I’ve never seen that where did you get it from? We usually like using the Makita 7” grinders because they are the toughest we’ve seen so far and last long. They are 15 amps vs this I think is like 13 amps but I saw a bigger 7” Dewalt that’s 15 amps at Lowe’s.

No respirator?? I know it has the vacuum thing on it but that doesn’t mean that dust doesn’t still slip away. Plus concrete dust is basically silica which is very hazardous to your lungs

Robert Swift the problem with people when is comes to blue collar work is that people are lazy, they don’t wana get and wear the proper protection equipment and think to themselves “oh I’ll be fine.” Or “I feel fine” and then years from now when they get lung cancer or something similar and wonder how..well, there ya go

Thx, How did you get the out port facing the back? Were the shroud tabs in grinder slots locked in? Me= WDE402 grinder with DWE46152 shroud locks in with port facing forward. Any thoughts.

Thanks for the Video, I have a bad situation in a remodel that am working on. It looks that you are experienced with uneven floors so lets see if you could help me. the bathroom floor has a big bump basically where the drain pipe is, when I meassured with a level is about 4 inches higher. the problem is that the toilet drain is on top of that so if I grind then the toilet is going to be like 4 inches above the floor. I could add a lot of self leveling compound but I would need to do it to the whole house. I was thinking to perhaps do a small stair at the bathroom entrance, could you please comment on my best option? Thanks!

Actually a small step up is the way I would do it to save money. But you could also have a plumber come and cut the drain pipe than the redo the concrete so you could have the floor even with everything else.

First off, great video. I realize this is subfloor so the “notches/swirls” help with the adhesive. Unfortunately, I’m in the process of removing old coating and thin layer of concrete from a bar top. In other words, it needs to be as flat as possible. I have the same model grinder, is it possible to set the dust guard to avoid the swirl marks and make it as smooth as possible?

Jonathan Phillips There are so many swirl marks because he’s going fast and holding it with 1 hand. What finish are you going for? A polished countertop or new epoxy coating?

i need to do a 1800 sq foot basement that has old glue stuck to the concrete from the rug. do you recommend this method with the diamond blade but just with a larger upright sander?

Depending on the area size. If it's a small area, then yes. But if your doing a large room or even 10ft X 10ft room and have to take down 1cm off the whole slab, well then I would recommend renting a large grinder from home depot. Model of the grinder is DEWALT DWE46151. Vacuum hose with adapter to fit grinder. A 6hp shop vacuum with a filter and filter bag. Also a dust separator helps but is not necessary. thank you for the info...i have another question which is the set up for the grinder wheel...i noticed that some grinders have like a cover, then another cover to set up the diamond wheel and then the tool for dust extraction...oh boy that is a lot to think about and i do not have a clue what the grinder head needs to do the concrete grinding. I had to remove all the carpet and pad due to water damage, found lots of cracks and moisture, i did the concrete clean up by hand and took me two weeks to do one room...need to do the rest of the house. what is the set up for the head of your dewalt grinder... thank you so much for the info. It's called a dust shroud. If you buy that specific grinder, than it will come with the shroud. Also I think home depot will let you rent a grinder with the dust shroud. Also as for grinding with the grinder, you do not want to keep the grinder spinning in one spot. You always want to keep the grinder moving and keep the grinder flat to the ground as much as possible.

I said to my self..."this is what i need"....I think i can find an used grinder on craigslist...and then rent the other parts. I have a shop vac...industrial that i purchased for this job. That is not concrete, that is a sand screed floor, very soft
