The New DeWalt DCF845 is faster in RPM and delivers more impacts as well, but does it equate to more power? We push the new DeWalt XR 20V Impact Driver to its limit to find out.

I think people lost the idea of an Impact driver… Im reading some reviews and please explain why all people care about is more power. This 845 is a smart tool to accomplish task without stripping screws and to avoid over torque… to me thats a winner deal… please you guys tell me who in the world would buy an Impact driver to losen lug nuts, for that you get an Impact wrench. So please don’t hate specially when you, thats reading this comment… you are probably a weekend warrior who has a bunch of tools collecting dust and don’t even understand what an Impact driver is for.

Yup. Would be nice to have a spiritual successor to the hitachi pulse driver for sensitivity & power, with a bosch freak style collet and detachable chucks. With a short body you could combine the needs of installation drivers, right angle ratchets, impact drivers & wrenches. Add a metabo style torque multiplier attachment for added low speed high torque for good measure!

I agree. Impact drivers are just a scaled down impact wrench, meant to drive screws and small lags without the torque reaction from a drill/driver. Now people are expecting them to do more than what a 1/4" hex is suited for.

Good video! Your explanation of speed #1 and the 1 second delay was exactly what I was looking for! I was about ready to send my 845 back because I wasn’t giving it enough time to kick into impact mode. Thanks Demonstrating the self tapping screws into sheet metal is a big plus for your video! Bravo 👏

I haven't purchased a new 1/4"Hex driver yet. I worked a14hr day Friday to avoid Saturday work. It was worth it, but brought something to my attention that I hadn't considered much. The weight of the tool-combo. It's especially important when you're operating on the ol-reserve tank.

I've owned the older brushed impact driver that thing lasted over 9 years. I got the original atomic great tool. But the dcf850 is my favorite small size and power.

I use a DCF850 mainly these days after upgrading from the 887. The size and RPM are really attractive to me since I would be using this to fasten 3-4" deck screws all day for the most part. I'm not too concerned with the max power output since I own the atomic 923 and 921 for nuts, bolts, and lag bolts. Always need to have the right tool for the job. I use them with powerstacks Overall I'd chose a smaller impact driver over a powerhouse any day. I own flex and m18 tools but to me their drivers are too big and bulky especially when you use em with bigger batteries.

Typically, when I'm disassembling/reassembling a vehicle, I'll have 1/4"Hex driver, 3/8" impact driver, and 1/2" impact driver, maybe both the 1/4"air rachet and 3/8"air rachet. All for different little tasks that make up the whole job. It makes it faster and easier. I really appreciate the tests you did on this video. I like DeWalt tools, but don't own any of them yet. Your tests did were adequate to display the tools proper usage. To many DIY'rs are getting the idea that if they purchase a powerful enough 1/4"Hex driver, they won't need a 3/8"impact or 1/2" impact driver. Perhaps the world as a whole would be a safer place if those people don't have 3/8"and 1/2" impact drivers, but that isn't the point I guess I'm trying to make. I bring out the whole arsenal for all of different tasks that make up the whole job. Keep up with great disclaimers before your videos. This channel is in my top5 of toolporn. Thanks for the entertainment.

As always well done review, you would think the 845 with it's increase in ipm and rpm would put much farther ahead of it's two other siblings the dcf 840 and dcf 850 ( I own both) the 840 is fast and powerful, the 850 is also fast and powerful and more compact with precision control (speed 1) and speed 2,3 for driving fasteners. The 845 is the 840 (with speed controls) if you own the 840 or the 850 you WON'T be missing much if you don't get the 845, unless you have money 💰💰 burning a hole in your pocket and want to buy a new toy😊.

I was goin to suggest beside the testing of max busting torque and lossing from impact drivers or wrenches I might be asking too much 😂 but it would be much appreciated if you could add on your next videos the torque on inch/ft pounds and test how accurate are does numbers corresponding to the spec on modes 1-4 ( lowest to highest not only max ) to know how great of precision are tools and of course for some requirement of jobs when screws or bolts have to be at a certain torque , as I been looking some Milwaukee and other brands on older models didn’t said ft pounds on levels or modes 1-3 only max so we have no idea until we have a precision instrument torque wrench . Hope you understand my suggestion I know on some video you did but it would be nice to add this on the future . Like how you explain your videos w weight and size and depth great Job !!!

Hi Tim, that dcf845 is bad ass, for me, my 850 is just as powerful and more compact than that 845, my 850 gets in very small tight spaces and gets the job done faster than my hand tools,

To be honest i have owned all the dewalt impacts since 2013. At work I've used miluakee, makita, metabo. To be honest they all work well in real world situations. Eveything else is advertising. The 845 is a real nice impact. However not much of a diffrence from the older model. If you want an impact that's actually made better with better parts on the inside look up the makita made in Japan model. I believe it's purple in color. That tool is 300 dollar's alone. Do you need it? Probably not however if you appreciate mechanical quality it's a hell of a tool

I don't get it , DeWalt makes the Most Powerful Impact Wrenches on the Market but when it comes to.Impact Drivers then are Lagging Waay Behind and I don't understand why ??? Common DeWalt ????

Because the collets on impact drivers are only rated for 1800inlbs if you go over that you risk breaking them, that's why Makita, Dewalt and Bosch stay around the 1800 mark Milwaukee, Flex, Metabo and Ridgid go over 2000inlbs and they are always having problems with their collets
