I complained to Costco about the rust, they said called DeWalt - Dewalt was willing to replace and I said no, but they had the same model constructed of plastic, which they shipped to me at no cost...but the screws still got rusty which I will eventually replace with stainless steel screws...

I have a brand new standard white DeWalt filter in the box sitting right next to me and the white filter can be used wet or dry. So you do not need to remove the white filter when sucking up liquids. It is even washable. It is on the box in nice readable letters.

Alright dude you are a great reviewer, a profound thanks. Can you please continue to review shop vacs and also please include water lift. The bucket test is great but water lift test gives us auto detailers a better idea of what kind of suction power we're gonna get at the tip of the nozzle (like it shows us the pull if you get me) this is very important for tough jobs like pet hair, sand or extreme dirt removal. A special thanks for the HP explanation, I agree 100% this why the egg shaped ridgid vac is often reviewed as the best auto detailing vac by many because even tho is fake propaganda "5hp" only vs. The "6.5hp" (less "HP") it still provides a slightly more powerful suction, of course all these great reviews come from reviewers that test this things outta of the box which is very misleading to people that are planning to use daily on a commercial setting. Main problem with the egg shaped ridgid vac is that it is too small and as a result the filter gets clogged very fast resulting in less suction (see the dilema) oooh not to mention that if you suction water and your filter gets wet it's game over. Removing the filter or improving the filter are not viable options for auto detailers bc it takes too much time and no matter how good or organized you are it is freaking impossible to keep the filter dry/clean in this tiny shit vacs (design flaw) or (maybe they designed it on purpose so you will spend a ton of money on filter replacement). This is why I appreciate your time so much, we need a vacuum that is big enough and doesn't loose suction once you start using it for real. Like it needs to be designed for the filter to stay clean/dry for at least a day and we need freaking suction not freaking lies about HP CFM blah blah blah, like real statistics on real environment (not controlled environment fake advertising BS). Ridgid/Home Depot has cheated us out of our money with their shit filter destroying vacuums with tiny motors from home depot for way to long. WE SHALL START... THE VACUUM WARS

My ONLY complaint about this vacuum is the absurdly short power cord. Also, you should mention that your peak amperage draw is under a "no-load" condition, and probably with a brand new filter. Your measurement will change with different accessory attachments and the level of filter or bag occlusion. Sucking water out of your bucket will give a more practical measure of peak power draw. Since humans perceive sound intensity on a (approximate) logarithmic scale, I don't see the point of converting to Pascals for purposes of noise comparison. Kind of silly, I think.

Amazon list the CFM for this vac at about 86. That's a terrible number. I contacted the Dust Deputy company and asked them what CFM they recommended to use with the Dust Deputy. (BTW: They said to ignore the horse power rating as it is a meaningless figure.) The company said to use a vac with at least 150 CFM with the Dust Deputy. They suggested that the CFM number should be the number to use when comparing vacuums.

I have this DeWalt vacuum, and the manual says that "The cartridge filter must be positioned over the filter cage while vacuuming liquids." Page 9 of the manual. Which filter is this? You said remove the filter for wet use, the book says it has to to be on to suck up liquids, then dry it for at least 24hours. Makes it sound like if its not on you could damage the motor. Being paper not sure how it would stop liquid. I assume you had no issues sucking up the water with no filter?

I own this Dewalt shop vac from Costco and I also own 2 Ridgid shop vacs as well. I think Ridgid power tools are good and the lifetime service agreement is even better if you remember to register your tools in the first 90 days. How ever the 2 Ridgid shop vacs I own is garbage. I forgot to register them so I only have a 3 year warranty on the shop vac.s My Ridgid shop vacs are just over the 3 year mark and has hardly been used. I always run filters and bags in my shop vac. I have 1 shop vac that was only used with liquids. I did run a wet filter on this one and the other one is only used for dry stuff. Like I said in the dry vac I always have a filter and a bag installed. The wet vac as I call it only lasted 6 months before it stopped working. the dry vac as I call it stopped working 2 days after the 3 year warranty expired (how convenient). I spent $159.00 and $179.00 Canadian on my 2 Ridgid vacs that did not work very well. I will never buy another Ridgid shop vac in this lifetime. In my opinion they are junk. Sorry Ridgid but laying it out as it is. Now the DeWalt shop vac I bought from Costco is a beast all in its own. It is quieter and a lot more powerful than both Ridgid shop vacs. It works great for vacuuming out your car or clearing the rain water from my basement window wells when it rains a little to hard. I paid less then $100.00 Canadian for the Dewalt shop vac from Costco. This weekend I will be purchasing another DeWalt shop vac from Costco providing they have them in stock. People do not learn and waste money like I did. Just go buy the Dewalt Shop Vac.

@@PrithviRVarma LOL, I can promise you I am 100% not a bot. I actual had a minor flood in my basement due to heavy rains and one basement window did leak a lot. I used both my 1 working Ridgid shop vac and my Dewalt shop vac. The Dewalt won hands down. The Dewalt shop vac is so much quieter and has a lot better suction. The other nice thing about the Dewalt shop vac is the white filter that comes with the shop vac can be used for both wet liquids and dry material. Not like the Ridgid shop vac that takes a separate filter for liquids. If you decide to buy the Dewalt you will not be disappointed.

I used the last remaining Ridgid shop vac and my Dewalt shop vac. The Dewalt shop vac was the best shop vac to help reduce the pain of a basement flooding. If you bought it you will not be disappointed. The last Ridgid shop vac quit working at the end.

Great review! I've had several Shop-Vac models over the years and their ONLY redeeming quality is the "pump-out" feature (QPV/ QULP series) with garden hose attachment which has served me well for flooded basements and such. Are there any other shop vac brands that have this feature WITHOUT having to buy an external and powered add-on? Other than a higher drum capacity, this is the only lacking criteria I can think of for the perfect shop vac. Not sure if it's patented but with that company now defunct, would the pump-out design (or similar) be deployable to the market? Thanks again for the great review... it's a year later and I see Costco lists the same model but for $10 more. Seriously thinking about grabbing one.

First thing is. Your presentation for this dewalt shopvac was the best. I just bought one and so far very happy. My only concern is I need to use this on a garage drain. To remove some water. Is there a specific filter for water for this model. Or do I just remove the regular filter and then suck out the water from the garage drain with no filter.

Nice video. Question: I have melted wet snow puddles with gravel in my garage. I can't find a foam filter, as suggested in the manual, online or in stores that fit the deWalt. If I choose to use the bag filter for dry vacuuming, is the pleated cartridge filter also supposed to be installed, or do I remove the cartridge filter when using the bag filter for dry vacuuming?

I purchased a 10gal Dewalt yellow/ black plastic from Home depot many years back and it has horrible suction and is about 3 times louder to my and others ears vrs a shop vac 10gal purchased two years later at Lowes Saw the $70 at Costco and didn't bite due to that experience.... Perhaps it may be worth it after all.
