My friend is using this dewalt saw in the uk for framing homes. He’s old school and he said he would never go back to corded tools now. Amazing he did make the step. He said he finds his day is that little bit easier now.

Use them framing, the dewalt saw will last 3/4 of the day of continuous use on one battery. Been dropped a few times off the roof and survived the fall. The dewalt nailer works ok, but not quite there yet to replace a pneumatic nailer.

That is quite impressive. For those who haven't worked in construction, he is dead on. The Mag77 really is the standard. They are heavy as hell, but nothing packs a punch like them. I used to have the top of the line Dewalt cordless circular saws back in the early 2000's, all Nicad batteries. They were useless unless you were ripping half inch plywood slowly. The one he's using is about $350 but if it lasts a long time, it would be worth it.

I've been in the Dewalt ecosystem since the early 80's with their plug-in drills. Got my first 18 volt (Nicad) hammer drill around 2002. It's still going strong. That said I've rebuilt the battery packs several times over the course of those years. Fast forward, I've recently purchased several 20 volt Dewalt power tools. What I'm saying is, I've been extreamly happy with their products. BTW, I do have several Milwaukee and Makita power tools as well. I think they all make great products.

Diablo simply is the best. But.. I have to admit the Irwin blade is actually not bad either. Dewalts blade is good at first though.

I bought mine shortly after release. The farm show had a buy the kit get a free battery promo. 9.0 battery came with saw and got 1 free. I am also have my favorite well used makita worm drive and no longer use it unless I’m cutting everything in one spot and a lot of it. A 9.0 battery will get you a long day of framing a house. Usually switch the battery at lunch time dead or not and never have an issue.

People complaining about the blade difference are crazy; he already explained why he used different ones so just be happy you got the comparison at all. Plus it's not like it was an unfair advantage. DeWalt blades are great but Freud are most people's go to for quality and performance. With that said, I can wait to see the FlexVolt comparisons when SKILSAW releases their codless Worm Drive with that "TRUEHVL" battery

Great video as always. My dad and I have been using DeWalt cordless tools for years. We frequently have to repair our logging machinery on the job site and these tools make a huge difference. And we still use the old 18 volt batteries.

That was a fun video demonstrating how tools have evolved the last several years. It's a little bit like how computers and phones have improved to the point where they can do so much more than we ever believed possible just a decade or so ago.

From what I’ve read, the DeWalt isn’t a true “worm drive” motor. They call it “worm drive style” because it looks like a worm drive saw. The DeWalt website lists the motor as a direct drive. It should perform identical to their other 60v saw which costs a lot less.

Also, worm drives spin at a much slower rpm than a regular circular saw. It’s no wonder one was faster. This guy did a really poor job at comparing the two saws. He didn’t even bother picking up an extra Diablo blade so they at least have the same cutting edge. I think he should just stop doing any kind of comparison videos with such a poor lazy effort.

Awesome review, you also forgot about paying for safety. I think the corded tools are far more dangerous. Tripped over far too many, not to mention cut into them as I see you have numerous times and almost started a small brush fire from doing so. The corded tools are just way more dangerous and frankly I value my life more than a $100 savings.

When you learn how to use a saw it won't be dangerous anymore. Lithium ion is considered to be a Hazzard in the shipping industry and requires markings to alert to that. Why is that? Because in extreme temperature or use they are known to start on fire and explode. So safety guy what technique can you learn to prevent that?

Some ten-twelve years after buying any cordless tool, I've retired them for expense or unavailability of "old-style" batteries. My 20 year old Bosch and DeWalt corded tools are running just fine.

The cordless tool experience depends on the brand and model you purchased. I have 18 volt Dewalt tools that are literally from 1999 and 20 years later, they still work fine and batteries are still available. In addition, Dewalt makes an adapter so that those older 18v tools can use the new 20v batteries. Also the new brush less tools and new battery tech make you realize how heavy and slow the old tools are.

Just out of curiosity Cody, how many feet of extension cord was that Skill wormy running on? There “can” be huge amperage losses if it’s 100’ + out. That DeWALT is still a beast though and highlights another negative of corded saws... amperage loss over extension cords. My 24v Kobalt also has very surprising power.

Im sure it wasn’t a long pull on the extension cord. The biggest difference is the motor, brushless has come a long long way and with battery technology, you can now leave the cord at home.

As a general contractor I set up my company with the 20v platform 6 years ago. Today we have a crazy list of tools, but the 20v circular saw definitely left something to be desired. Over the past weeks I have been adding some of the 60v flexvolt lineup, such as the circular saw. I doubt we will add the table saw or miter saw because we are renovations contractors and have readily accessible power. Predominantly we use the 20v impact, oscillating saw, and 4-1/2” circular saw. Those are by far our top 3 used power tools

I worked on a concrete forming crew for a while, and we used Skilsaws exclusively. Cut 2 layers of plywood all day long for forms. Awesome saw. Heavy beast too. Built my right arm up massively.

All I can say right now is WOW!!.....that demo actually impressed the hell out of me......ive built homes for 20+ yrs now and I own 2 mag wormdrive saws .....so I know what they are capable of.....that dewalt cordless cut through that better and faster than any othe saw I have ever used.....from the sh!tty junk saws (what I call home owner specials) like Chicago electric....to the higher end saws that I own such as hitachi(my personal fav) to portercable.......to tell you the truth....I thought the cordless didn't have a chance to even stand up to the mag saw......thnx a lot....now I have to research all of the new cordless tools!!.....thnx for the video.....love yur channel btw!!

If you can, wait just a bit longer, since both Dewalt and Milwaukee will be coming out with 12Ah update to their batteries... Presently they max out at 9Ah... Newer batteries will also perform better and tools coming out by the end of the year should be taking advantage of that improved performance... This saw should still work with the new battery, though... But for other tools there may be some significant updates coming out by the end of the year...

My "Wow" was for a different reason. The Dewalt blade had the deep gullets of a framing blade. The Skilsaw's blade had shallow gullets which would struggle with the full 2" thick timber (it had not been milled to customary 1 1/2"). So my WOW was, this looked to me to be a setup.

Lots of issues maintaining the control baseline here. Old vs new. Should have two identical blades both brand new too. (That means first saw doesn’t dull blade for second saw). No guide for cuts. Could have more wobble or less wobble which skews the test. And likely a few more ... That said, it’s still a pretty big difference in speed. That rig will cost a lot with 3-4 batteries and extra charger(s) to support it. And space in the truck/toolbox. No cord is a huge convenience, but depending on total run time per battery it could also cost you some up/down on the ladder too. Still, darn convenient! 😀

As a remodeling contractor I'm extremely impressed with this DeWalt saw an d most of the new line of DeWalt products. If I was doing framing every day the 77 would be my choice but I would also have this DeWalt saw for work you don't want to drag a cord behind.

Both great saws IMHO... The blade kerf makes a huge difference to the cutting speed and typically a cordless saw blade has a much finer kerf than a corded saw... Swap the blades and I'm pretty sure the result would be different for each saw... It goes without saying that if there is power on the job site which saw will win unless you have an endless supply of fully charged batteries... For me a better test is how many board feet each saw will cut without any problems arising...

I find that I need at least 4 batteries on port but it sure as hell beats dragging a cord in the mud and worrying about what is on top of my cord. The time I save cutting more than makes up for the 25 or so yards to rotate batteries. It gives me time to light up a smoke.

I'm a flashoholic and that makes me be into batteries. I'm a battery junkie, I love batteries, reading and talking about the specs, prices, brands, etc, etc... So it's kind of ironic that I don't ever want to depend on a powertool that runs on batteries. If you're willing to put up with the cable, there's NOTHING like a good old corded tool, nothing. If you don't mind putting up with the cord, when comparing apples to apples, they're cheaper, more powerful... they even look more manly IMO. Being into batteries I know the premium you pay just for mobility... why go that way when you can get more for less.

The battery cost/performance/mobility worth ALL the money. This is the future. For the hobbyst maybe are unreliable, ( high cost industrial tools), but the tehnology will evolve very fast. Today we have battery and tools that provide more power then corded. In the past 10-15 years that was almost imposible..... . PS: I almost never use corded after cordless. If you work in a crowded site, with 5,6 tools, you will know why you need cordless. But i know your lack of trust for new tools in the consumerist era. Yep. i dont think that present companies want to create a tool to work 20 -30 years like that Skill saw, or old makita, dewalt tools : )

@@crinaandreea9640 I'm working with battery drills and flashlights. The rest of my tools get Full power . I have been using Skill & MAG77 for 25+yrs. About 20yrs ago battery was showing up in sawzaw / little warmdrive saw and they suck. .Now all the Nicle battery tools are trash because the battery is out and we have the new battery.. I'm sure the battery today is better than yesterday ((Although the old battery had a warning that it was almost out of juice)) Batterys today , working great then just like that it's dead. But the biggest thing about the battery tools is how much a Battery cost. 1 battery is more than a brand new MAG77.. and you will need 2 battery per 1 tool. That's just the way I feel about it. I'm not saying I don't like the idea . I have been burned by the battery tool game. Already and I don't trust that investment will be a good one. The name on this KZbin channel is my wife.

The Skilsaw has quite a bit more power , "torque" than the cordless,"battery " unit !! Though, if you roll out a 100 ' of 14 gauge cord, you will have a significant drop in performance with most corded tools , 10 amp and above !!

@@brianharrigan8821 Not really . With BRUSHED motor. the designed torque specification cannot be achieved. Here several reason. 1. Brush bounce. The brush could not maintain 100% contact on the commutator. therefore cannot deliver 100% of the lectric power. 2. Arcing between brush and commutator. wasting electric power. 3. friction between brush and commutator. 4. At point of stalling or close to stalling the brush and commutator would heat up and waste even more power. 5. Brush motor only operate efficiently on one designed speed. Hence the need for the WORM drive (any reduction gear ) to take advantage of the most efficient designed RPM and slow it down to a useable Blade RPM. Brushless motor do not have the above problem. and with brushless motor it is easier to control the speed and timing while maintaining torque. at point of stalling brushless motor have more available torque. and no need for 100Ft 14ga or 12 ga cable either. brushless motor with new lithium batter could deliver an high Impulse of current for micro second right before the motor stall and breakthru the stall BRUSH motor cannot do that . The only limiting factor now is the battery . we in the RC hobby knew the advantage of Brushless motor and have not look back ever since. hope this help

Taylormade2350 Worm gear HAS everything to do with torque It allows the use of higher RPM motor n then lowered the speed via worm gear and have higher torque The direct drive skilsaw has higher RPM. But lowered torque Compare the lower gear vs high gear in your car !

I purchased my DeWalt 60 volt Worm Drive about 3 months ago and hadn't used it until a couple weeks ago because I had the circular saw that came with my 7-piece combo kit. I have everything on the 20 volt 60 volt now. I had to build some stringers and some stairs for my basement because they fell down LOL. Now that I've used that Worm Drive I don't use anything else. I tried to save it for my own personal use but now I use it for my Contracting as well. Also bought the 60 volt table saw and the 2 60 volt battery compound miter saw. I've always had dewalt but their system now is just killing everything else.

I work as a handyman. Thank god for the Flexvolt technology makes jobs much easier. Their drill is literally incredible. Just powers through anything. Has 3 different speed settings, 1st gear works amazing for mixing concrete. I'm trying to go all cordless on all my tools. Of course could be very expensive though lol. I've used a Skilsaw Mag77 for years now. Amazing drive saw but Battery operated everything is the future.

I got so tired of the batteries always being dead, running out of power in the middle of something and having to wait for the battery to recharge. So many projects got started, interrupted due to battery issues, and subsequently abandoned due to frustration, that I did whatever the opposite of cutting the cord is. Sure, I'm no contractor, I'm just a weekend tinkerer who only gets to put in 2-4 hours in my garage doing whatever is needed. I've still got my cordless drill and driver, but it lives right next to my corded drill. Corded tools don't run out of batteries, are less expensive, and just don't quit. I've still got my grandfather's old corded tools, drill and circular saws. They still work after at least 60 years. I replaced the drill because my "new" corded drill does nice things that the old one doesn't, and it just feels better in the hand, but they still work, and just never quit on me. Torrey Jones I'm a pro contractor the cordless system allows a multiple of advantages, first no cord, on cord to cut, roll up, and my favorite OSHA to inspect. I have multiple port chargers and high capacity batteries so the low battery problem doesn't exist. As a pro I have seen better production and just the freedoms the cordless platforms offer. Good for you Mr Crowley! I'm glad that the cordless tools work so well for you. I however, am not you. I am not a contractor. I don't have to put up with OSHA. I can not USE 10 power tools at one time, so I have no need to power 10 tools at once, thought the drill press, bench grinder, and table saw do stay plugged in over in the corner. What to you is, I'm sure, an extensive list of advantages, to me is an equally long list of pains in my backside. If you're cutting cords, then you aren't paying enough attention to remain safe. Cut only what you intend to, nothing more. Anything else is negligence. No excuses. I'm 40+ years old. I have used the first cordless drills running on ni-cad batteries. I have used the latest lithium-ion powered cordless tools. I have used many of the generations in between. Even when I work sun up to sun down in my garage on some home repair or improvement project, corded tools work better *for me.* I have never had a corded tool slow down because the battery needs charging, nor quit before the job was done due to dead batteries. My work gets done, and I get to go have a beer. Batteries means that I'm either waiting for it to charge or otherwise not getting work done, meaning I don't get my beer. I do own the DeWalt 20v 5-tool combo kit (it was a gift), and to be honest, I would say that the driver sees the most use. I still prefer the pneumatic driver though, since it never stops working. You do you, and I'l do me, Cool? Cool.

I’m a diy home use guy & cannot afford dewalt or rigid, Mikita etc. I wish I could but I do have the Ryobi tools for 11 years now and they’ve served me well. It’s not as good as the expensive brands but gets the job done.

Working in the garage or in the house I prefer good old corded tools. Batteries go bad, get lost, lose charge,etc. Corded keeps going.

the new lithium ion are way more convenient then the old ni-cad tools used to use, leave them on the charger it doesnt hurt them and theyll always be there ready to go, they dont really lose charge when left off the charger maybe over the course of 6+ months, lithium lasts alot of years atleast 5 with heavy use probably get 10 out of them at home owner/hobbiest level and theyre no more likely to get lost then anything else, big bright colours and should be attached to a tool whenever in use

Christina Perez I had originally built up a nice brushless kit. Dewalt would not help me out with failed batteries so I sold all stuff. I deal with a Milwaukee rep now... if I break anything, he meets me or has one of my supply houses hand me a new tool/ battery. I’ve had zero problems on anything besides my tubing cutter... I beat it hard and it’s totally my fault it doesn’t last

Cordless tools aren't replacements for corded tools, they're different things for different applications. If a cordless tool works for you, you simply don't have the need for a corded one. When you have a guy ripping boards on a bench and doesn't stop till lunch time, the cordless saw is the wrong tool for the application.

mattorama If someone did not make power supply for these already then someone will! That would mean best of both worlds. Less issues with voltage drop when you use cord and freedom when you use battery. BLDC motors are better then brushed AC motors in longevity and power efficiency.

Some of the cordless tools of today ABSOLUTELY are replacements for their corded versions! The circular saw and miter saw especially. I can work the Flexvolt miter saw as hard as the corded version and last all day on the 2x6ah battery. I don't have as much experience with the Flexvolt circular saw as I do the Makita rear handle, but I know that the Makita has replaced my worm drive. The inconveniences of batteries on a job aren't any worse than those of dragging cords everywhere and dealing with nuisance GFCI tripping.

It is only called a worm drive saw because of its shape/styling and comfortable feel. Also these new saws are brushless.

Chris Wells sounds like you are using crappy brands to me. My dewalt impact will screw decking for literally hours on a single 5ah battery. With a 45min recharge time you never run out.

I've got Dewalt, and same issue because I don't use my tools very often, maybe a few times a year, and the batteries don't work well if left in storage, or the chargers all the time. However the Black and Decker Saw my father left me that's over 30 years old still works, and get the jobs I need done every time I've used it.

Skillsaw has just introduced a SPTH77M-12 48V cordless version of the 77-a REAL wormdrive saw machine.Has a HUGE 48V battery that is like the ones used on my cordless mowers.Ordered one of these saws.Also have the Dewalt.also the battery on the Skil can be charged within an hour.You can get the Skil as basic machine only,with one battery or two batteries for someone that uses the machine on a production basis.I ordered the single battery version-not using the saw for production type work.You can order the saw from Lowes,Acme tools ,Home Depot and other dealers.The Skil 48V battery system is planned to be used on future Skil tools besides the cordless 77 saw-and the cordless machine has a brushless motor.

I have both kinds of saws, 7 1/4inch Dewalt worm drive and a 9 1/4 Skil. The Dewalt is an absolute animal. I have used it cutting stringers for 5 hours on a single 9ah 60v battery. I still us the Skil from time to time but only when I need the larger blade, butting 4x4's for example.

Battery powered tools have made HUGE advances in the last few years , and I would put DeWalt up there with the top brands . I also like Milwaukee , Porter Cable , and Craftsman . They have some pretty awesome battery technology . Thanks for a great video .

Hard to believe the flexvolt can outperform the mag77! Cool video. Also the left side of the shoe typically is 1" from the blade so no mark/chalkline is necessary... Just use your finger to keep the saw flush with the edge of the board and it will be much faster.

The thing that will almost always happen with the cordless saws though is going to be longjevity. The corded saws can be run all day IF you have a place to just set them up and work in the same location. The cordless tools will always need extra batteries and need to be recharged. If the you have enough batteries to run all day then it probably isn't an issue for you otherwise even if it cuts slower, the ability to work all day wins out. Also the cordless tools are an investment in a brand. Once you start buying tools and extra batteries and all the proprietary equipment that go with it your pretty invested. We're talking hundreds of dollars and if the brand quality starts going down, you would be very dissappointed.

I think corded tools are a better option for high volume tasks in a relatively close area (cut station, production framing, etc) and cordless tools are handy in more varied situations like remodels or punch list work. Although certain smaller, less power hungry tools can just be straight cordless all the time with little negatives.

I don't think they are worth the money, charging/changing batteries, ever work 16 hours (or more). I'd rather drag a cord and make piles of saw dust than run back and forth for batteries... and then there's those pesky people with sticky fingers grabbing chargers and batteries. To each his own. :)

I'm in Australia an working from our regulation but imagine not a huge difference in most 1st world countries but if you have worked on any construction sites it is getting so much harder having extension leads running around plus the required ohs required monthly testing plus there is just setup time anyone use to cordless tool always has charged batteries and when you need to do something its just grab and go no setup needed

Always ups and downs. If you have a job whereas you move from room to room, or floor to floor,a battery tool may be best. If you will work from a central location and you are the dedicated "saw man"... the corded tool will do the job all day, every day, no chargers, no batteries to run down.

The battery powered chainsaws are really impressive for small work. I would never try to stock the wood stove with one but they are great for cutting small brush and storm clean up.
