Dexcom G7- no warm-up time and extending G7 [Day 3/7]

It's day 3 of the Dexcom G7 week here. Today, I am discussing the 30-min warm-up which in my experience was a no warm-up thanks to G7's automatic sensor warm-up. Dexcom G7s warm-up period begins as soon as you physically insert the sensor which I found great. If you have any questions, please drop them in the comments and I will do my best to answer them.

I like that the applicator is smaller, more like the Libre. But I'm not sure if I like the built in transmitter. I suspect that was done to prevent extending the life of the sensor like is possible with the G6.

How do you manage the period of inaccurate readings from a new sensor?

Nice Video. Anyway until know I’m convinced the libre 3 is superior: - libre3 is smaller and thinner - 14 days instead of 10 - even with libre3 you can overlap 2 sensors and have a zero gap (if you have a second phone) - a libre3 quarter kit is a 98 day kit (7 sensors) compared with 94,5 days of the G7 (9 sensors, including grace periods) - with libre3 you can inject a sensor and activate it 1 or 2 days later = better values. G7 activates instantly. - libre 3 activates easily with NFC and no codes to insert. I think the advantage of G7 is better connectivity with watch/pump (which I personally don’t use) and better Software app. But overall it’s a step behind I think (didn’t test G7).

Even those, I didn’t knew, that I would need them before I watched your videos. 😂 Now my question: Does the automatic warm up mean, that I can’t apply a new G7 i.e. at 6 AM before Work to start it while working, when the old one ends i.e at 10 AM?

You can, but that would presumably shave off 4 hours of the grace period for the new sensor. So the new sensor would end its grace period at 6pm on the 10th day (10 days and 12 hours after you applied it). End result: still more active sensor life than with G6, and for those who experience inaccuracy in the first few hours of a sensor, you may be able to eliminate that by applying a new sensor up to 12 hours before the previous sensor runs out, and still have 10 full days of live sensor data for each sensor.

How has your accuracy been on the first day? I love wearing my G6 at least 16 hours before activating it so as to prevent those false lows during the first day of activation. I believe having immediate activation may be a bad feature of the G7.

I pretty sure he is on DIY loop. None of the commercial systems are compatible with G7 yet

My 9 year old was just diagnosed and was approved for the G7 getting it tomorrow. How long does it last with the patch it has already? Do you need to add another patch or no???

The one thing I really hated about G6 is the amount of waste that every insertion caused, since the applicator can't be recycled because of the needle inside. What is the situation with the new applicator ? I noticed it's smaller, but can it be recycled ? Thanks, your videos are amazing as always !

Hello from the US 👋🏻. One question. I have been doing “pre soaking” of my G6 sensors (inserting it about 6-12 hours before removing the old one, inserting the transmitter and starting the session) to decrease Wi jibes of the sensor during the first 24 hours and improve accuracy during that time. Since this doesn’t sound like it is possible anymore ( is it??) how have you found the accuracy of the G7 sensor in the first day or so?

Does the life start counting down when you apply it even if your previous sensor is still going? Ie, no more ability to pre-soak sensors without having a shortened sensor life?
