Dexcom 6 can display glucose readings on I-phone with only a screen touch and a swipe. Dexcom 6 can also announce the glucose value when you just ask Siri. Tom, I’ve been watching your videos for a little while now and have learned a lot, thank you. I have been changed to a Dexcom 6 about 3 months ago in preparation for an insulin pump soon. After about a month while checking out it’s features I discovered I didn’t have to turn on my I-phone and then the app at night to check my blood sugar. I simply tapped the screen to turn it on and then swipe the screen from left to right and the number and a small portion of the graph appeared. This was quick and went back to sleep. Also while driving, no need to touch the phone. I simply spoke out ‘hey siri, get glucose’ and Siri spoke out the value and where it was heading and also displayed the info on phone screen . Great features in the Dexcom 6.

Sometimes there are almost no symptoms except getting sleepy. Going to sleep when your blood sugar is 43 and going down isn't a good plan. I love hearing the alarm to let me know to eat. I solved both stickiness and sensitivity issues by using a skin prep wipe and over-patches. As for connections, I found it convenient to connect to my pump and have my phone follow via connection to the pump as it made changes easier, but I see that independent connections can have advantages. I will attest that Dexcom does replace sensors; I even told them I felt a little bad since mine failed on day 9, but they sent a new one.

I've been having increasing numbers of failing sensors, some immediately after pairing, others near end-of-life. The last sensor I swapped out kept reading 30-40 mg/dL high vs. my Contour Next glucometer, even after multiple recalibrations. I hope this isn't a quality control issue that is cropping up. I've been on the G7 since December and it has changed my life for the better immensely, I went from a 13.0 in December to a 6.0 in August (and holding), because you can't run from the truth in front of you. I've used glucometers for 25 years, and the temptation to stop checking when the numbers aren't satisfactory is the road to trouble.

So reading through the comments I must be one of the lucky ones that has no issues with the adhesive and rarely loses connection 🤷♂ The one thing I really wish they would address but didn’t mention was the fact that a new sensor can take up to 36 hours before the readings stabilize. @TypeOneTalks - been using your trick of applying the new sensor 12 hours before the start of the grace period (fantastic tip, thank you). When I then switch to the new sensor I can see the readings from both sensors in the app graph at the same time and the lack of correlation ain’t pretty! You should do a video about it 👍
@dwightl58634 ай бұрын
I agree with you on the stabilization time. Last sensor was still so wonkey after 30 hours I changed it out. Massive swings high and then low. Calibrated it 8 times and would not settle down. The current sensor though is behaving itself. Same lot number too.

I like the new adhesive. The old ones would fall off, so I had to use another like the skin tac whipes... now I no longer need to use it, and the sensors are still sticking pretty good once they've expired. lol Some times I wish they would come off a little easier now... way different than it used to be.

I remember hearing several years ago about research into an implantable CGM where you would have a minor procedure to implant the sensor (similar to having a pacemaker installed, under your collarbone, perhaps) and then it would last for many years without additional intervention. Imagine being able to KNOW your blood glucose with 100% accuracy without any kind of finger sticks, worn devices that need replacement all the time, worry about getting wet or bumped around during sports...? HEAVEN. I love the new G7 (so tiny, so much easier to change than the G6) but what I would love most of all would be never having to worry about my dog pawing off my CGM, or having to get reauthorized for the next version. Just look at my watch and make decisions about food and insulin. We've made amazing progress in my lifetime (I remember when a young T1 friend used to have to use test strips to find out how much sugar was spilling into her urine. Finger sticks glucometers didn't come out for another 10 years. YIKES.) But we can always have more and better innovation, right?

I tried the G7 but was having trouble with it lasting 10 days. It either loosened up or quit working early. I had trouble with one staying connected to my pump (T:slim) so maybe the upgrade will help with that too. I went back to using the G6 until they could get those things straightened out. I wasn't the only one having those problems and the person I talked to at Dexcom said they were working on ironing out some of those problems. Now that they have upgraded it and hopefully fixed some of the problems I'll give them another try after I use up my G6 supplies. In the 3 years of using the G6 I think I have had 3 sensors replaced. Two for failing and one because of having an mri. I also had a transmitter replaced for failing. They were always good about it. They have to have a limit on replacements because sadly there are people that abuse it. Thanks for telling us about the upgrades.

I have a love/hate relationship with my Dexcom G7. I use the receiver not phone and have the receiver on my nightstand about 2 feet from me but I get sensor distance alarms almost once a night waking me. I've even put it next to me on the side of my sensor and it still happens with numerous sensors, not just my currant one. Plus having the alarm go off to tell me I'm approaching low then again within a couple of minutes when it hits or goes below the low alarm (no time for the food to take affect before the second alarm goes off) then as my blood sugar increases it goes off again when it hits the low alarm level. Having the alarm sound 3 times each time my blood sugar goes low is beyond annoying. This is both during the day and when I'm trying to sleep. For instance, if I set the low for 65. It alarms when approaching 65 then when it drops below 65 then again when it hits 65 again as it is increasing. Each time I hit OK on the receiver. I've never had such poor sleep in my life since I started using this CGM. The initial incorrect readings for the first 12 hours is another huge issue. I checked it each time this last time I replaced it with a finger prick and it was up to 20 points different from my glucose meter so not only can I not trust the readings but the darn alarms are falsely going off. I love that it does wake me if my glucose drops while I'm sleeping and I don't have to prick my finger as often. The adhesive on the sensor works for me. The overlay gives me a rash but I learned I don't need it and the sensor stays on without it for me.

I go through the exact same thing!

@@Gorillatgbro I called the company today after my high alarm set at 100 (to allow me to keep an eye on my glucose to see if it is rising or not and to take action if it is) and it alarmed at 102 which was fine but then it alarmed at 112 then 108, 107 and 106. Seriously. 5 alarms within 10 minutes?? I was told I was the only person this rep ever had call because of the number of alarms and they intentionally have the alarms go off this often because the elderly like it and parents of young children. For the receiver, you can't change it. I asked for the R&D team to be told it is very frustrating for that many alarms to go off for either high or low glucose readings and asked if they would add an option to not have it alarm for 15-20 minutes so if we've taken insulin or eaten something it has time to take effect before unnecessary alarms happen. Perhaps if enough people complain they will change this. She told me people with the phone app silence the alarms. That doesn't help people with receivers. If you would call and also complain it might start a chain reaction for them to make some programing changes so we don't have to deal with this.

I've already noticed the new adhesive. It worked well for me before, this is a bit more finicky to get off, but I'll take it. As to rapid connect, I've heard that if the LBL is underlined, it's supposed to be, but I'm still seeing issues where I have to reset my phone to connect to the sensor. Which probably means the phone needed a reset to begin with. But, whatevs. As to the Apple Watch, that's not my brand of tech. 😛 My sensors tend to fail anyway, for a replacement, so I don't see this affecting me much. I don't track using the app, either. I was on Medtronic for my pump, but I no longer qualify under Medicare. 😏

I just started using the G7. I like that it’s smaller, doesn’t have a separate transmitter and it has a shorter warm up period. I’m having a hard time pushing the button though, it’s frustrating.

Unsure why they can't match the Libre 14 day lifetime.

I have lost 2 sensors in the row due to the bad adhesive. One after another, after about 5-6 days from insertion. And that's not a first time, it happens a lot. I stopped my swimming sessions due to the sensors peeling off the skin. In fact even a shower is enough to get overlay patch very soggy and just start coming off. I'm so fed up with this that I have started looking for alternatives. I had one G7 sensor with nice strong adhesive and I thought perhaps all of them will be like this from now on, but unfortunately that's not the case. I'm quite active, cardio or weights training sessions or both almost every day. Apparently that's too much for G7 sensors. It can have 100 amazing features and so what, if it can't even stay on your skin. For me G7 it's rubbish just for that reason! New medtronic looks promising though. If I could only get a sample to try it out it would be great.

I use the ultra fast-acting inhaled insulin, Afrezza. I also use the extra fast-acting insulin, Lyumjev. Dexcom does not differentiate between the two on their landscape graph.

I have to use at lease an ounce of Alcohol to remove my G7. The stick to me that is a real chore to remove. I mean a chore.

Try using oil to remove the adhesive, not alcohol. Any oil works
@kimberlystark39443 ай бұрын
I use a little bit of WD40. I started using it to remove the adhesive from medicine patches. A little squirt on a cotton ball or pad works like a charm. I've never had a problem with skin irritation - I just wash with soap and water then wipe with an alcohol pad.

@@kimberlystark3944 WD40 is diesel fuel. not at all good for injection site, skin break, or the skin even if washing off is attempted. Coconut oil or MCT (multi Chain Triglyceride, highly refund coconut oil which can be used in food or oral intake are the safest products to use, not diesel fuel.

How can I use the G6 on my Fitbit?

All are good news, but it's hilarious to hear that rumors about G8 are starting, when in France, we are stuck with the G6 (for "free", so I'm not whining, but still...). I'm eager to see our Health system finally authorize the G7.

This was great! As a dad with T1D kids I do try to stay up to date. I didn't know G7 was able to work with mobi yet, apparently that was just in the last month or so. Do you know if the watch will be WIFI? What I'd love for my kids is to not have to be near phones (we already struggle a lot with this - too much screen time), so they can keep their phones at home or in the nurse's office at school, but be able to connect AND transmit data to WIFI so they can be monitored in the house, yard or school. I'll try to dig into the research myself, but this would be a game changer for us parents who want connected children, but not have to give them direct access to phones at all times.

Thank you for sharing! The watch connection is via bluetooth - direct from sensor to watch without phone. The only issue you might have is that Dexcom follow is not supported yet. In other words, the watch is not able to send the data to the follow app.
@rachel96584 ай бұрын
My son is using direct to watch. It is great for when he is in gym class and such, but I still prefer that he has the phone near him because that device is the only one that will send the data to my phone via the follow app. When he is out with just the watch, I don’t get any readings on the follow app.

I have an underlined 0008 unit that has the bluetooth link to my iWatch. However, during a hike today after about half and hour or so without my iphone the app on the watch indicated it had lost connection to the device. It did reconnect after I'd been back home and had my phone. I don't know if it had anything to do with how much I'd been sweating or not so...

Update: Did another 5.5 mile hike today without the phone and it did not disconnect from my iWatch and I was just as sweaty as yesterday so don't know why it had an issue yesterday.

G7 has sent a message about her phone is no longer compatible. So it won't be very accurate. Were not buying a new phone for this. 😢

I’m not pre diabetic ( well wasn’t 6 months ago) but idea of having metal filaments in my skin concerns me so probably wouldn’t use even though I am fascinated to comprehend what my typical food choices actually do to my blood sugar levels . Read that we all individuals and some people get spikes with bread and others don’t .
@dwightl58634 ай бұрын
First off the sensor filament that is is in your skin is not metal. And don't let anyone tell you that you will get absolute straight line not be diabetic. Glucose readings go up and down in nondiabetics as well. It is just way more in control.
