It’s interesting that the dosing cup has the ridges still as if its designed to be in a holder. Still a very nice grinder! Hard choice between this and 064s/078s.

The dosing cup is starting to come with other DF grinders. Think the sculpture looks kind of complicated internals from the video. Mainly a drip rig? I haven’t tried one yet.

They've changed the cup now... I think the edges are good in a way because they stop the cup going right inside the basket so you don't get a ridge between the coffee and the edge of the basket

Even with the bellows and the removable chute I would still prefer a knocker. Even with RDT there was a significant amount of grounds stuck in the chute. I dont want to open that chute every single time I grind. Still pretty good for the price.

Great video as usual! I would love to hear your thoughts or see a video about 6 bars espresso shot vs the traditional 9 bars. I have been pulling 6 bars shots grinding finer, and a bit longer shots, 40 to 50 sec. I really like them, I find them sweeter, and less harsh.

Looks pretty solid, I know you have a demo unit. I’m hoping for the final they add the plasma tech for static, and the declumper is better. Only reason I didn’t pre order was the historical issues with retention, static, and declumper with df series

It won’t have a plasma generator. The declumper is stainless steel, everything on this grinder is metal more or less. I have all the DF grinders, never had any issues with retention. In my tests they retain less than the heavily worshipped Niche. Static, if an issue I just use RDT. My only real static is the chaff on course grinds. People hyperfixate on the declumper, I’ve never had a jam in my 83. I mean 🤷‍♂️ I kinda don’t get it. I’ve even tried to jam on purpose. These grinders are awesome compared to most out there especially for the price. I have a superjolly that has tons of retention and is a huge mess. Still makes awesome coffee. Have a Mahlkonig K30, same thing. Atom 75 not as much retention but probably the same as any of the DF stuff. Twice the cost. Not trying to sell anyone on them but I keep seeing the same comments again and again and I’m like ???

@@portakeeper I appreciate the honest feedback, i have the Df64 V4 and it’s just a pain in the ass overall with the stuff getting clogged in the chute and all the other issues people have with it. I decided to go for the df64v tho, after watching yours and Hoon’s videos it looks really promising so I’m excited

@@Jahloveipraise surprised yours is a mess. That sucks. Do you RDT? Might help? How new it is it? The V is pretty nice I say. Easy to clean and use. Sorry for my rant, these new grinders at their worst are light years better than the old school ones at their best.

Buddy, that machine was crying to push some water with 9 bars though that clogged puck :D must have tasted very bitter and overextracted imo... and VST baskets, not filters right?

@@robertandil5950 I love a syrupy ristretto. Usually not quite so slow. New burrs I go finer until they break in. Was getting a tad bit of spray otherwise. They will totally break in and smooth out. The DLC is so hard it’s going to take a bit longer

One can certainly argue that the Lagom P64 is better in an absolute sense, but hard to see how the P64 is worth 3x the price than the DF64V. I put in an order for the next batch with SSP Espresso burrs.

That looks like a very syrupy espresso, just like I like it! I looks like a more syrupy espresso than what you get from the DF64 even with the SSP High Uniformity burrs?

How compares the espresso from these DLC burrs against the 83mm Italmills of the DF83? Difficult to decide between this DF64V and the DF83. I like very much this magnetic chute but I could live without it if DF83 makes better espresso. I have another grinder for filter so this is not a concern for me. Thank you!

I like the 83 more, the surface area adds quite a bit of clarity yet also makes it one of those grinders that works with multiple bean styles.

Bellows work great. That’s like over 10 shots through the grinder plus some V60. Will be an updated declumper. It’s so much better than other grinders IMO.

Thinking between DF83 and DF64V for espresso and filer, what you think?

Hard choice for sure. Both do well with both. Most come stock with mostly espresso design burrs but can do both. Flavor, I’d go 83. The “workflow” people talk about, the V is pretty smooth to use. Would be a tough choice, I’m running SSP unimodal in the 83 and love. Unimodal in the 64 is quite astringent unless the beans and settings are perfect.

Difficult for me to answer for your needs. I think it’s a nice grinder, small, build quality is very good. Upgraded burrs. If you are happy with your DF64 and happy with the burrs you won’t tell night and day difference. Just too many factors weigh in for me but I really like.

Perfect, most people hyper fixate on the alignment lol. A 90% clean wipe is better than most high dollar grinders out of the box. This was better than 90%.

@@portakeeper 90% is perfect to me! Almost as good as Lagom p64, but at a fraction of the price. One more question, isn't the sping going to change/collapse in time and eventually change the alignment? Same thing when you use the bellows the sping collapses and this may change the alignment.

@@NANA-gy7yx all springs have a K constant. They usually design stiffer than what’s needed so that when they break in they are perfect. As for the bellow. On the DF64 and 83, when you press the bellow you will be slightly pressing on the burr carrier. You shouldn’t be pressing hard enough to make the setting change. With the V, it has a very different design. You can press and it won’t do anything because the top adjustment collar is threaded. Very cool unique design
