Of course he’s using a light meter, the prism viewfinder also has a light meter in it, he uses a hasselblad PM5. Michael is the best photographer of all time but he’s not God for knowing the exposure value of a particular situation, although he’s been photographing for many decades so he has the experience and being the Pro he is he can guess an exposure based on experience, although he relies on the light meters to get it spot on so to speak. You can see him thinking and creating ideas of the final image in his mind before taking a shot or a series of shots with different settings applied. The hasselblad system is also particularly convenient because the aperture and speed is displayed on the lenses, so it’s pretty easy to manipulate and even calculate the time of exposure. It’s one thing to rock the equipment, to take the amazing pictures and scenery he shoots is another. If you see the patience and the number of shots he takes of a particular tree, you can only wonder the amount of post production work involved, including the selection of the best pictures... Michael is a beast, you see his whole body of work you can only be overwhelmed by it. So many iconic images... dream pictures.. But the work he puts on cannot even be grasped by anyone, and that’s pretty much his secret. He works all day everyday... beast

Is he calculating the right exposure value in 6:16? That's great, I mean he is an amazing professional photographer and doesn't even think of using a light meter, I love this kind of purism in photography!

That view finder on his camera has a meter built in.

Of course, that's how you go extremely low angle when you are using a tripod.

I forgot to say, he obviously doesn't need a light meter :-)
