Dhul qarnain is Sulaiman AS. All the signs point to him. Alexander was a kafir whereas Dhul Qarnain had wahi and was given the promise of gog and Magog being released in end times from his Lord. The most compelling reason. They were both given the technology to manipulate both iron and copper! 🔹Dhul Qarnayn - 18:96 Bring me blocks of iron; until when he had filled up the space between the two mountain sides, he said: Blow, until when he had made it (as) fire, he said: Bring me molten copper which I may pour over it. 🔸Prophet Sulaiman AS - 34:10, 11 & 12. And certainly We gave to Dawood excellence from Us: O mountains! sing praises with him, and the birds; and We made the iron pliant to him, Saying: Make ample (coats of mail), and assign a time to the making of coats of mail and do good; surely I am Seeing what you do. And (We made) the wind (subservient) to Sulaiman, which made a month’s journey in the morning and a month’s journey in the evening, and We made a fountain of molten copper to flow out for him, and of the jinn there were those who worked before him by the command of his Lord; and whoever turned aside from Our command from among them, We made him taste of the punishment of burning. And both refused to accept gifts. 🔹Dhul Qarnayn - 18:95, They said: O Dhul Qarnayn! surely Gog and Magog make mischief in the land. Shall we then pay you a tribute on condition that you should raise a barrier between us and them? He said: "that in which my Lord has established me is better (than tribute), instead help me therefore with strength (and labour): I will erect a strong barrier between you and them. 🔸Prophet Sulaiman AS - 27:36, So when he came to Sulaiman, he said: What! will you help me with wealth? But what Allah has given me is better than what He has given you. Nay, you are exultant because of your present. But there is also a adventure story (fairy tale) about Alex and his army fighting the Huns. But historically Alex and his army did battle the Saka tribe (Scythians from Caucasus mountains) at the River Jaxartes. In Judeo-Christian faith the Scythians were looked upon as the army of Gog & Magog (doomsday army of cannibals) and also Gog from Magog, which was based on a Proto Assyrian king called King Gyges of Lydia (part myth, part real, Book of Ezekiel) and i think he was also from the Caucasus mountains (ancestors from there). Most great conquerors before Christianity and Islam were polytheists (Julius Caesar, Alexander the great, Ashoka the great, etc). Even Cyrus, though many regard him as a monotheist, there really isn't evidence for that being the case. He was a very tolerant king who held great respect for the Jewish God, but he also showed reverance for the gods his many subjects worshipped. He was righteous, but I highly doubt he worshipped only one god. A long time ago I read that there was a time when the ancient Chinese were followers of a one God very similar to the God of Abrahamic religions, but I never saw any real evidence to back that up. Idk, maybe Dhul-Qarnayn is so ancient we might never know who he truly was, or at least not for a long time.

Cyrus the Great was a direct disciple of Zoroaster. Just like Nabi Isa (a.s.), if Zoroaster was a true prophet of Allah, then his message was initially Tawheed, but only after his death it became the duality religion known as Zoroastrianism. Although, some like Yasir Qadhi does agree with you, saying that Cyrus was a polytheist, and he suggested that Dhul Qarnayn was in fact Darius the Great, another disciple of Zoroaster. So, Allah knows the best. But most certainly Dhul Qarnayn was not a prehistoric figure. This is because Gog and Magog are from the descendants of Noah (a.s.).
