If the character data is the same type of file and the game is really just a remaster and the same under the hood Blizzard couldn’t stop people playing locally with old characters from the originals.

I have consistently used Occy on every high end sorc I've ever made. In all the time I used it for both MF'ing and progressing, I've only ever died to the random teleport twice. On the other hand, I can't count the number of times I've been saved by getting a free teleport out while I was stuck in hit recovery. I feel entirely confident saying that people vastly over-estimate how bad the random teleport on Occy is. I would go so far as to say that, for a midlevel hardcore character, (or *any* softcore character) it is actually more of a benefit than a negative.

Its likely just best practice with it to farm things you out level. Stuff that you know you can take quite a few hits from. I am gonna give it to one of my sorcs in for the magic find and try it out. If she dies because of it, at least it would be removed from the game in HC. =D

I agree. Occu is an S tier weapon and people overreact way to hard on the teleport. By game design it will save you more then kill you with the teleport. Simply because if you randomly teleports while being struck you will move away from danger. Sometimes you will teleport somewhere more dangerous but hell, you could just as easily teleported there on your own.

Jokes on Llama. I ran occy on a sorc in HC up to level 97. I found it actually saved me more often than It hurt, I'd teleport dumbly into a pack of dolls/souls and would get teleported to safety by the Tele on hit proc. Having max block and holy freeze merc was key, melee monsters almost never actually struck me.

Like, what difficulty to farm different vendors on different acts, and include the socket quest etc. Which act and difficulty to get a tele staff and lower resist wand. I know all this ofc, I've seen your vids and taken notes when you've said them, but that info is scattered all over random videos. Would be nice to have them all in one video for everyone else.

Mnyeah maybe. On one hand MH+OH requires you to find 2 separate items. On the other hand a shield is a shield and allows you to block. The gap could at least have been smaller though. Staves should be at least some kind of viable.

When they added runewords it was definitely the better/more exciting option then to just buff existing uniques. That being said they should definitely buff some of the uniques so everyone isn't just using the same items and builds as D2. Most gamers ended up going to low level duels after a while to get away from all the runewords.

It's not just spirit, a lot of these staves cannot compare with a HOTO or Oculus and a splendor shield. Staves are at a disadvantage because they use both hands so they have to be REALLY good to get picked in late game. And I don't think that any staff is that good. All the staves are usually used because you don't have something better at that point

I often use skullcollector as my switch weapon for MF purposes at the begining of ladder with my sorc. The item is easy to find. Just because of the MF and its lvl requirement, i would put this tier B.

Torch of Iro's biggest issue, "its so hard to find!" Been looking for it forever on my grail. In open beta I found 2 of them within a couple of hours. Too bad the Necro wasn't in the Beta.

I recently found out that Arm of King Leoric is not for my necro. The necro did NOT have any way to teleport, proceeded to open a chest and not get away in time to keep from getting burned (steady flame trap), then triggered freaking bone prison, and kept my necro burning until the lightbulb came on and I cast town portal. Otherwise, this wand was almost a quick hell mode death. (not maxed resist) For the record though, I love the analysis of these tier videos and I love pausing them and guessing before the answer is given. Again, so we are clear, I was almost noobed to death by a trapped chest. Not a monster. The fire triggered the proc and kept triggering it.

Yeah, it's super annoying, especially on hell, much like that Sorc orb (Oculus), that keeps teleporting you all over the place. For 5% chance, it happens way too often. Try playing Hell in areas that have bunch of those snake enemies or archers, it's huge pain, you'll consistently be disoriented.

I don't know why, but all the staves and wands that came with vanilla D2 (aka pre-LOD) had lot of stats that give either life\mana leech, life\mana after kill, flat damage bonuses, +attack rating, etc, it's like they expected people would play Necro or Sorc going around bonking monsters in the head. I am not kidding, look at some of the Necro wands like Sander, Infernal, etc, they all have like 3-4 "melee" status (+attack rating, +elemental dmg, +life\mana leech, etc) that are completely useless, and only thing you really get from them are +X skill and +X% fcr.

Do a Occulus hardcore run, where you have to equip the Occulus after you reach the required level :P. Obviously you have to farm the occulus with another character and socket it with a -requirements to lower to requirements :D

There was a time when poison necro ruled PvP for a while. But as far as daily playing was concerned, a great majority of Necromancers played a Summoner. It's been a long time since I last played D2 but that's the way I remember it. As far as Summoner Necro is concerned, FCR is secondary. The only useful reason to have FCR is teleporting with Enigma. Otherwise, FCR isn't all that useful to a summoner. For a summoner, other than Amp. Damage, Decrefy, and Corpse Explosion, you don't bother putting any point in the other trees at all. And only Coepse Explosion gets more than 1 point. I understand the importance of FCR in the caster class in general. But you can't judge a book by its cover and you seem to putting a way too much emphasis on FCR in wands which may not necessarily be true. I mean Trang is such a garbage because that set is designed for a Poison Nec and the effect of the full set becoming a vampire incredibly slows cast rate.

Oculus is fine if you have max block but everyone only ever builds glass cannons lol. I get a bone shield of deflecting from drogan then a Rhyme bone shield while leveling, makes max block super easy, pretty hard to die with max block unless your res are terrible and I mean that on you lol.

My sorc played with the oculus on 8 player hardcore all the way to lvl97. It is not that bad except certain places (cows), a hardcore sorc should have the basics for survival anyway 75 block etc and be skilled at teleporting.

Nuts to have Serpent Lord in D tier. That staff's mana leech is great for progressing quickly through the early game on 8 player as a sorc which i did, i was using nova and you keep running out of mana. Overall though staves are.... rubbish like most uniques but even more so.

Ondal's is one of two items to give an experience boost (the other being anny.) Why do people not use this as like... a weapon swap for grinding to 99? That's mostly based on boss killing Diablo and Baal, so any extra experience seems like it would be a big boost.

He legit said he'd place it B-/C+ because despite having good bonuses it is high level. "I think it could fit in the B tier perfectly fine." Makes sense. For a lvl 81 the abilities are handily outclassed by Death's Fathom or a merc with Infinity. I'm not even really a Llama fangirl and I think you guys might be taking tier lists for a 17 year old meta a bit serious to be chopped up about where he places an item most players will never in 5000 mf runs even see.

There is a reason lots of people will use razorswitch through nm. It gives +1skills and 50 all res... basically things you want from your weapon and shield. Still, a good wand or lucky orb roll plus ancients pledge and even the S tier razorswitch is bonfire material.

@@aliebrubaker7473 exactly even the usable staves get junked as soon as you have a decent orb shield combo, you don't even need something amazing to bon fire most staves. 4 to 5 skills and decent res should be a minimum on any staff above level 65. Staves that spawn barely better than orbs and wands is a joke. You sacrarice attack speed, blocking, and variety when you give up the shield slot. I would love to see more staves used end game

IDK MrLlama, I think this is a little helpful but not super helpful because in game I'm not comparing just unique vs unique items... sets and runewords compete against them in the same slot. So if i get a set staff and a unique staff... How am I supposed to compare them? I like the idea what you're doing here... But I feel it needs to include all available items in that category.

Weapon and armor runewords are more than likely always going to be better than any unique you find. Most of the items he throws out here are for early game and or just to be used until you are able to make the big boy runewords. Set pieces are not that great in general besides the pieces of tal, trang gloves, and a few others I cant think of atm.

Raise skeleton uses skill level at creation. When you swap to CTA, they don't become weaker. Lets say you have skill level 30 Raise Skeleton. You create a skeleton with stats at level 30, then switch to CTA to almost double its life, then switch to beast to give him level 9 fanatism. Your skeleton never "lost" stats each time you swapped weapons.

considering they're some of the hardest items to find, i think their power is warranted. this being said, i don't think 2 sorc, 3blizz, 3 mastery, 2os, fcr rare wands can compete with fathom, which is a bit of shame. rare is the way to go for light and fire sorcs, though. eschuta's is decent but can't come close to ideal rares. IIRC 2 sorc or 3 light/fire magic wep with 20fcr and 2os is also quite desirable, as long as it has good + skill rolls like +3 light, and mastery.

You are giving too much weight on fcr, especially for low tier items that might not use it or prioritize it, like a summon/poison necro for example, with poison nova the damage lasts 2 seconds, within this time window no new nova damage can stack making it useless to be able to cast faster, and if you are rating low tier items highly you cant rate items based on fcr just because you have enigma which is usually the entire reason someone wants fcr on their necro unless they are bone spear. also items like suicide branch shouldnt be S tier, as convenient as they are they do a lot of work a good shield would do and are completely outclassed at higher levels, for example wizardspike and spirit shield, for contrast the oculus and arm of king leoric both fairly similar levels to branch 33, 37, 42. both of these uniques are not outclassed at higher levels and deserve their S tier
