Diablo 3 Review - How it Failed the Series

I think enough is enough. Diablo 3 is the worst thing that could have happened to this series and it'll only get worse from here.
My very first edited video. I suppose if you're going to to start you should start with a bang, right?
You wouldn't think it'd be that hard to make a decent sequel to the once great franchise. Apparently it was. I'd call this game a paradoy, but that implies they did it on purpose.

Diablo 3 was a cartoon. I played the shit out of Diablo 1 and two. I didn’t even finish 3. It was so boring. What happened to their art style? They turned the whole thing into a Warcraft cartoony thing.

The story telling, the writing, of Diablo III is AWFUL. The story itself is garbage (PROPHECY, NEPHALEM, NEPHALEM, NEPHALEM, PROPHECY), but the way it is tell is the worst. The dialogues are PAINFUL, and the characters are CONSTANTLY talking. Diablo I/II is one adventurer took in something bigger than himself, Diablo III is ME ME ME (I'M SPECIAL, I'M SO GOOD, etc). Diablo I/II was more kind of Lovecraftian, the less you know the more fascinating it is, Diablo III is a very bad kid cartoon. Diablo I & II are revolutionary and well crafted games made with talent and passion, Diablo III is a greedy and cynical postmodern product.

Recycling it is. The writing is truly miserable. Afaik Chris Metzen was burnt out at this point already. I hated the "WoW" flair in the game (but became used to it later on). Your video just reminded me of that. The best part is the fast paced game play (with sets and on torment 13 its a different game). if you completely disconnect it from Diablo (the concept and its core principles) its fine on its own, the addon somewhat added to its value and some of the artwork (not design!) is truly beautiful (but repetitive and not fitting for Diablo). overall the settting hardly fits to the original series. I enjoy D2:R right now so much and for me it's proof for all that's wrong with D3.

Started D3 yesterday after D2R. Oh boy....D3 is so mainstream in every aspect. It is A LOT easier than D2R, I have died only once so far. You are bombarded with Legendary stuff all the time. It is like an Arcade game. However, when I increased the difficulty, I still had fun. But it is really a shallow experience. Dialogues are embarrisingly stupid and cliche-like. I found your video very entertaining and spot on!

Didnt even mention how terrible the items are, theres no point in any of it, everything is just a stat stick that ups your main stat. Nothing unique, all your doing is waiting for your 1534th legendary to drop so it can boost your main stat a little more regardless of other modifiers because im already doing a bajillion damage

D4 did go back to the boring, washed out and dull art direction. And it also became microtransactions infested live service garbage. To be fair, even though I like the art direction of D3 more, I have no real issue with the way D4 looks. But it doesn’t matter, because it’s live service and it will be lost when they shut down the servers. And it also locks stuff behind pay walls. Firstly i want to say that i am a VERY casual Diablo player. I only played Diablo II and i loved it. I really hate the Art Work of Diablo III. In Diablo II the world looks grizzly, miserable, dead and yet still having life. That i really loved. I watched a playthrough of Diablo III and the dialogue is absolute cringe. The hero was a Crusader and my god... I almost died from cringe from his behaviour. Everyone was rightfully down and depressed by the fact that the Ultimate Prime Evil came to be. One Lord of Evil is extremely dangerous, just look how a single Evil in the face of Diablo was built up in the first game. Now WE HAVE ALL OF THEM COMBINED which never should have been because that should be an automatic Apocalypse for Sanctuary but your character, the crusader be like - Oh bitch. Don't worry. I got this. He is so calm and cocky as if he knows the script of the game already with his huge plot shield. I don't like this. I don't like how one of the Archangels of Fate was it? Said that he foresaw only defeat and the Crusader be like - hur hur hur then you are wrong! Words cannot describe how much i hate reckless self-righteous characters who tell others how to behave or what to think. Who are not knowledgable like others but have the audacity to tell them that they are wrong and must think like them. Nephelim or not your character should have been butchered by Diablo as the Prime Evil. Anything different than that makes the forces of Hell a joke. You defeated Hell at it's most powerful state. What threat would it posses in the future? None.

My friend begged me to play this game even though I hate the diablow series so he bought it for me and I gave it a chance. We played for maybe an hour before I got bored and stopped. That game is cheap-feeling and boring. I'd rather play Nox or Dark Alliance. diablo sucks even the the 1st 2 games. The walking animation looks so stupid in the old games. Baldur's Gate is king.

I died in the second cave in Diablo II because I hadn't realized that weapon damage relies largely on the weapon and so I had neglected spending points on my health. I don't know if it's possible to die in Diablo III.

I'm not that much of a nerd that I understood what diablo 2 was about, other than evil creatures plaguing the lands I was heading out to kill, and looting, and I didn't like the feeling of unease and dread, where as diablo 3's pace and flair are quite jolly to stroll through to me, but I can very well understand this critique. It's a tragedy when a sequel changes direction to cater to a different audience. It happens way too easily, even if not intended, but this here is glaringly obvious. Also the disregard of established lore and metaphysics is always disgraceful. So you have my sympathy.

Diablo 3 is a literal shallow version of Diablo 2, on the gameplay and story aspect. It is a game that is incredibly afraid about commitment. In Diablo 1 and 2, you had to be careful when creating your character and an early mistake could easily make the gameplay harder. It's one of those games where you would create character after character, perfecting your build. Yes, it can be kinda annoying resetting everytime, but it asked the played to make meaninful decisions. In Diablo 3, stat points are a things of the past and you can instantly refund and realocate them for your needs, while in D1, there was no such thing and in D2, you had to farm essences of the bosses to make a respec item.

Exactly, I first started playing today and stopped after about an hour or 2. Started with normal, way to easy so I bumped it up to hard...... still way to easy..... can't go up another difficulty without starting a new game...... I miss the ability for choice and stats in D2, I immediately get 7 skeletons at lvl 9? Alright that was anti-climactic, guess I have nothing to look towards achieving since you get whatever is unlocked at the levels. Such a disappointing game after loving D2

The reason that the Demons from the first game re-emerge is because Demons quite literally respawn after a certain amount of time in the Diablo universe. That’s why Tyreal attempted to trap the prime evils inside the soul stones so that they wouldn’t come back.

I mean I do like the ideia of Tyreal bringing destruction to earth and the angels being racist to kill humankind because of their blood line and diablo invading the heavens and being a prime evil and he's design but like its so bad the way is written and so out of the way of the franchise. Modern Blizzard recycles a lot of their writting and scenarios. Hell, in WOW when you're about to kill N'zoth, you go super sayagin and unleash a beam of death on the Old God, just like Kerrigan in that god awful ending in the epilogue of Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void

This is a perfectly good art direction, if you take off your nostalgia tinted glasses. Lots of the complaints are just that. Pointless complaining for the sake of complaining. The game looks beautiful and gothic. And yes, you can see inside the cathedral, in case you’re oblivious to those lit up torches on the walls and support pillars. The art direction is also not “WoW”. It’s more similar to the art direction of Darksiders and Joe Madureira, albeit with less comic book like distorted proportions on characters.

Diablo I and II were stories of someone born with strong Nephalem blood choosing to take a stand against the threats to Sanctuary. He doesn't have to. He could do whatever the heck he wants with his power or even ignore it and live a peaceful life. The schemes going on probably wouldn't affect him within his lifetime anyway. But, he makes the choice to grab what little weaponry he has, march out into the darkness, and fight. No one probably even knows he exists or gives a damn about him or will ever know of his heroism. He does it anyway. He's not a chosen one, just a quirk of genetics shared by many other people who choose to stay out of things or never even realize their potential.
