Hey Jim, I'm a retired auto tech and I think there is a TSB (in Canada) anyway about updated intake gaskets (O-rings) to correct a lean bank 1, lean bank 2 condition. It's bean a number of years since I done one (a few) but that did in fact repair the problem. Ya it would push the cost up a little bit more but would be a good fix, something tells me they may want to replace intake bolts as well but it's food for thought for ya.

That brings back memories. I fixed a lot of these things. I'm not sure if I did more of the runner controls on them or heads. Fun jobs though! Great video Jim!

Especially if you use the aftermarket imrc's Dorman and now Standard are low grade Chinese parts now. You have to get an NOS OEM imrc

I am losing so much coolant lately i was scared it was a head issue but no signs of that. Found the intake gasket is leaking to the rear and all the coolant is being lost while driving(half a jug every few hundred miles). Contemplating head gaskets later.

This is why it took you so long to get my car fixed. 20 minutes turns into an hour when you're recording everything. Geez. Just kidding, thanks for sharing. Just realized this guy didn't get back to any of the other commenters except a couple. Not very supportive.

If mine was bad and the rods popped out will this cause the van to shut down?

Hey man I have a question. I'm working on a 2000 ford windstar with the 3.8 liter yes I said a ford windstar lol.. Anyways. The back fuel injector is bad so I went an take off the intake to get to it and I have three bolts just sitting there turning in the plastic. Any info of how to get this thing off. I found another intake i can get cheap . if I have to break it but Idk

I just wish these car guys will turn on the car to see what sounds the cars are making so people could compare the noises

Hi, on a 1998 ford turaus, where is the manifold runner located, and dose it have two of them,?

Forgive my ignorance, Jim, but what is the function of a runner control? All of your videos are great, but I especially love your diagnostic expertise.

It changes the volume of air in the intake. Helps with fuel economy.

Actually it was a big letdown not to see the actual repair- and by the way I had the exact same part replaced on my 98 Windstar in 2017 in Southern California and they charged me $339 for parts and labor. You wanted to charge 400 to $500. Man you are expensive. Isn't that job actually under an hour to do?

I've done so many Windstar IMRC vacuum actuators that I've lost count. Aftermarket actuator $110-$150, and both can be removed pretty easy with wobbly sockets. The small clips are brittle, so buy a 5pk of extras from Dorman.
