Wow. That dude was loud. Even that I try to do my own work, sometimes you guys with the cool tools have to do it. I'm glad the customer took your advise and got it fixed. Well done.

Hi Jim, If the compressor did not come charged with oil, how much oil do you add to the system or compressor? Where do you add oil? THANKS

Could it be only a faulty clutch? what could be the reason for replacing the compressor as a whole? Just learning from you Jim

Why did you have to change the complete compressor unit? .....if you buy only the clutch set, it will come with a new pulley. And it seems the pulley was the noisemaker. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
@jgizzy5 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Many shops opt to over-repair in order to ensure there are no come backs. You would be shocked at how non-understanding customers can be with this, usually concluding in their own minds that the mechanic is either crappy or a liar/swindler. It's a catch-22 type of situation. If it was his own vehicle he may just opt to replace the clutch assembly.

Twice as much labor cost, just as easy to change out the compressor, the guy doesn't work for free.
@donniev8181 Жыл бұрын
@@jgizzyno, the labor cost of replacing the clutch would be equal to if not more than just simply changing the compressor as a whole.
@jgizzy Жыл бұрын
@@donniev8181 let's assume you're right that labor is twice as much, the final bill would still be cheaper than replacing with a good quality a/c compressor. Besides that assumption, the labor would often be much less because the clutch assembly can often be removed while the A/C compressor is installed - so no need to pull refrigerant, vacuum pull, then recharge system.
@donniev8181 Жыл бұрын
@@jgizzy putting new parts on an old compressor is ridiculous, just change out the compressor. Again, dude does not work for free.

Why not just replace the bearing jim instead of the whole compressor, nust curious.

@@eastbay40386 Exactly, I wouldn't go to a mechanic like this. Replacing the whole unit with only the A/C pulley's bearing is the issue!

I have been fortunate with most of the vehicles I have owned when it came to the compressors, since I never had one to go bad, but was always prepared to work on the A/C systems just in case. I usually had power steering problems instead and on one vehicle I have to get that checked out.

we had our 05 crv snap a new serpentine because the compressor locked up, got a Napa place to replace it, but it has slowly been getting louder and now it is just as loud as when the old compressor locked up. The mechanic told me there was a guarantee on the part, should this cost alot to fix or replace if it is indeed the compressor again?
@jgizzy5 жыл бұрын
When the compressor locks up that means the entire compressor unit has seized, what happens is that a lot of metallic debris is introduced into the entire AC system: all lines, condenser, evap core, drier, etc -- best practice is to replace the entire system if you cannot get it clean (many times you cant) by flushing it out. When there is still this debris in the system, a new compressor will fail very quickly because that debris acts like abrasive grit that very quickly wears down what should be a rather sterile system.

I like his Deniro accent 😊 very nice presentation but I didn’t buy the idea of using a rubber and metal to listen the noise ,well I think he added that to make it fun to watch .

Yes, the pulley is still spinning when the AC is off since the drive belt operates it.

Must be just US built CRV's.. Don't think it's an issue on Swindon built CRV's.. Possibly a different part Number and supplier.. Our shocks and clutches are prone to prematurely expire around 70k miles esp on the diesel models..
