Thank you Bob for this excellent video. I have 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid with 130,000 miles. With A/C set to Max, so the car stays running in city driving, I had vent temp in the high 50 degrees. On highway, vent would cool to 42 degrees. Using a manifold gauge set, the low side pressure was 60 pounds pressure, high side was 190. I ordered the compressor control valve from you, and changed it out. It came with new green o-ring. While the control valve cover was off, I pulled out the small screen located above the lower mounting bolt, and cleaned it. I also changed the fixed orifice tube, which has some particles in the screen. After the repair, vent temp is 42 degrees in city driving. Low side is now 35 pounds. This fix worked for me!

I am getting about 60psi on the low side, when I bring it to 2000 rpm, and less than 100 on the high side (2007 Saab 9-3 2.0T). I just purchased one, for $20, and will install it tomorrow, vac the system, charge it, and see what happens. This car, uses the one, that looks exactly like the one you installed. in fact, Saturn, (since you mentioned it), is one of many cars the this is used on, as well as my saab 9-3. the compressor, as at the bottom, of the belt path, so hopefully I can get to it, from under the car. I'm replacing the Dryer, on the condenser, so hopefully the compressor is easy to get at, as well. Great video!

Doug B ,were you able to get to it without removing the compressor?

New Sanden compressor Condenser, dryer and expansion valve did the trick! I suspect the compressor choked on a flutter valve. You can turn it with your finger! All good now. Cold air in the face!😊

@@doug900S I was wondering if you had previously found you were able to replace the control valve in this video without removing the compressor.

There is no accessible control valve, on my Sanden compressor (no access plate). I replaced the compressor and it is now back to normal.

Spring must be fitted on the Valve, BEFORE Valve is inserted. Not just "....toss that spring in there....".

I removed my old valve and replaced with a new one, and the car is only blowing real cold when the engine is around 2500 rpm, but not at idle. I am wondering if the new valve is not working properly. Is there some kind of 'bench test' for this valve? Also, the old valve had a substance on it that was 'blackish' and a bit tacky. Should I have wiped out the valve port on the compressor, or oiled the new valve? What would that substance be, and does it affect the valve, or the compressor's functioning?

I had similiar issue with a part bought on ebay. Had to replace it again to fix the issue. I don't find a bench test method. If you find one, please share, thanks!

Do you have to remove the compressor from the 2005 Equinox to do this repair?

Is it the reason when my AC is on, and I do a sudden stop my car would go forward. You said if there is a lot of pressure on the compressor and if that control valves malfunction, then the high pressure on my compressor, cause the compressor to move its wheel, which is attached to the engine wheel, and caused it to move when it stop.

Um, how do we diagnose the solenoid itslef to known if it's bad or not? Not sure what exactly I learned here, other than how to remove a solenoid.

This is for diagnosing and replacing the mechanical type control valve. Electric solenoid type valves are diagnosed and replaced differently.

Good video, thanks for sharing. My 2006 VW Jetta w/ the 1.9tdi diesel has a similar valve that goes in the front side of the compressor, so I'm assuming that basically covers the 2005-2011 VW models. So this design is supposed to be more efficient than the usual clutch type? Thanks again, - take care

To replace these valves the system must be completely discharged. Before recharge the system must have a Vacuum pump run for at least 30 minutes. Air in the System is dead weight and will degrade cooling.

i have 2005 gmc yukon , is the control valve of the compressor is adjustable ? because i bought the compressor new from denso but it have same pressure reading as you mentioned in this video , please advise.

If i want to replace only the Oring behind the plate, do i need to remove the refrigerant from the system? I won't touch the valve, just remove the plate replace o-ring put back the plate ? The o-ring is leaking system is working fine, but i see some small oil leak coming from the plate. I want to replace the o-ring , but i am not sure , if i can do it without removing the refrigerant.

Yes you must recover the refrigerant, then evacuate and recharge it after the repair.

@@bobsteinmann5793 Thank you very much. I will go to a special shop then , when i get my gasket and ask them to remove the refrigerant.

Does the new scroll valve need to be oiled up before inserting? If so, what kind of oil should I buy? Also, I ordered a valve that does not come with a new o-ring. Is it ok to re-use the existing o-ring?
@bobsteinmann5793
@bobsteinmann5793 3 жыл бұрын
a light coat of oil will allow it to slide in easier, Pag 46 oil. Replace the o-ring, it will probabably leak if you reuse it

@@bobsteinmann5793 Thanks for your reply, Bob. one more question ... I cannot see where my 2006 Montego has any controls in the car's interior - for any Auxillary, rear AC unit, in order to determine how much R134a to add to refill the system. The tag in the engine bay compartment shows two different values for the amount of R134a that needs to be in the system, depending on if the car has, or does not have, a rear "Auxillary" AC unit. Can you tell me how to verify my Montego DOES NOT have Auxillary rear AC parts/function, so I know how much R134a to use to refill the system?

I have a 1990 GMC S15 4.3l . Retro fitted/converted to 134a. When at idle/park or at a stop light it blows warm air. Works good though when car is moving. Also the low end is a little higher than normal. No leaks.. Could this be a control valve issue?

This sounds more like the cooling fan not working and the condenser is cooled by the air only when the car is moving.

He raised the RPM in Park and it started cooling. Had nothing to do with cooling fan operation.

If my car used to not blow cool air at idle and we continued to use it do we need a whole new compressor or will a new control valve fix it?

the real question is was it trash in system that caused failure and if so where did it come from. maybe figure that out im betting more often than not something else is causing the failure which makes this a band aid fix

I cant speak for others but in our shop we have had a 100 percent fix rate. There is a small filter that protects the valve and they are always clean. This valve is known for failing on its own. Yes debris in the system due to a bad compressor can cause a valve failure. We just have not seen it.

Does every part on the A/C system (I have a 2005 Chevy Equinox with bad scroll valve) necessitate the use of a vacuum pump before removing them? Is there a difference in refrigerant discharge when changing the scroll valve versus changing the entire compressor or condensor for instance? I'm finding it difficult to locate a vacuum pump to borrow and they are very expensive to buy. Is there a way around this? Can't afford to take it to a shop and it's getting very hot without this A/C system working correctly. Thanks!
@glenwaldrop8166

After you do any maintenance on an A/C system that opens the system to atmosphere you *must* draw a vacuum on it to remove the air, which is essentially a contaminant in the system.
