Diagnosing Ford Escape Fuel Pump Issues, 7 Dead Fuel Pumps and Counting.

2001 Ford Escape with multiple dead fuel pumps. Found high resistance in ground wire (Terminal 85) that triggers switching for the fuel pump relay provided by the PCM. The PCM is having trouble establishing a ground for the fuel pump relay. Also there is 6.5 volts going to the fuel pump even with the fuel pump relay removed. I didn't film it but there was an aftermarket wire added to the wiring harness coming from the PCM meaning that some foolishness has been done to the wiring harness at some point in this cars history. The aftermarket wiring harness modification might explain the phantom voltage showing up to the fuel pump.
I think you can use this diagnostic process on both Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute year models 2001 2002 2003 2004 Fuel Pumps.

Hey thanks for explaining the diagnostic. I just replaced mine a 2003, ford escape fuel pump. Im running a 2.0 engine, but rockauto shipped a 3.0 instead. I just installed it anyway to test. The car did run, start. But, after half a km, I turned it off and start again, would not start. Rest it a few mins, crank and starts. Went home, then same half a km, before I can park the car, it shut’s itself on its own 😂 Anyway, I am suspecting a relay and led me to this video, hope mine is not a pcm. Or I just need a fuel pump that is for 2.0. In our area, most mechanic replace those pcm. Mine is 120k kms, 20 years

Had the same problem but ended up being a damaged crank position sensor when a belt got turn up. I chased my tail for weeks trying to figure this out but changed the fuel pump and filter anyway in the process.

lol some idiot added a wire for security or a stereo system and killed his own car and caused fuel pumps to die. Lmao after the second fuel pump i'd have been like ayo wtf

Normally don't post or comment but since you wasted so much of my time. I decided to help. Try checking the driver control module under the tank . Yes u were correct u missed the right part but were close

Waren , if I remember he said that escape was a 2000 or 2001 . I believe 01 - 03 doesn't have the fuel pump driver module. They sit on the rear axle area on the driver side . I changed a working fuel pump driver module a couple days ago with a new one , now it won't start ! I put the old one back on and still won't start , WTH is going on . Btw , mine is an 06 escape

@@noladol yes I did , turns out there was nothing wrong with either fuel pump , old one or the new one . When I changed out the driver module I forgot to hook the ground wire to the frame . Hooked it up and started right up . A dumbass I am . Now I can't figure out why my blinkers , hazard or the head light flash when you lock the door and shut .
