In my opinion 1969 was one of the best episodes from the whole franchise. It dealt with some real world problems (in 1969) and they handled it really well.

Disclaimer: I'm anti-war but not anti-troops. I know there's this mentality for a lot of people (and prevalent in the U.S., which is *not* where I'm from) about "serve your country" but the patriotism act grates on my nerves. I never understood the ethics behind drafting. I've read into what the men who were forced into war, (particularly in the World Wars) went through and it is its own act of evil to force someone into war like that. That line, "I don't want to kill anybody" has resonated with me since the first time I heard it as well. Thank-you, Alex for such an amazing delivery. :)

I've often wondered if anyone on the SG1 team tried to locate Michael and Jenny to see which path they took. Even more intriguing, if they found them and said, "Hey, remember that clan of "aliens" you helped in 1969..."

Sometimes an actor's ad libs can become the most memorable and meaningful scenes. As he said, he's not being disrespectful, it's just part of the collaboration process. If an actor can make the writing better by bringing their interpretation to it, that's awesome! 😎

Improv can be a mixed bag but sometimes you have to sit back and look at what another person sees. Outside suggestions can be great but only if you as a writer recognize and accept your limitations.

Gosh, I want to see that ep again. -- What gets me as I get older is how so much of that past era is still relevant and echoing, repeating through our lives today. And then things took a weird hard turn into almost an alternate universe in the past few years, as if our heroes need to arrive, see that the timeline has been damaged, and fix it back to how it was supposed to be. If only it were that simple, right? -- I'm neither a pacifist nor a warmonger. But there are people doing good and bad/evil in the world, for sure, and telling the difference can take real discernment. -- Meh, I don't have all the answers. But we still need to ask the questions and look for the answers, even when they are tough.

I do not understand how anyone can look back at that era and still have a problem with those who ran to Canada. Over 50,000 Americans killed, over a million people in Vietnam and the area, all killed for absolutely NOTHING and the world is still paying the price for this disaster. And of course we learned NOTHING as we're trying to disentangle ourselves from Afghanistan today.

On my Galactic Police Pilot I got to see this from both sides. Since I am the writer and Voice Actor. The Part 5 script read "Fry that duck" and just after I said that I relized "Chop that Duck" would have been better since the captain was being excuted by beheading. I still have the outtake of me relizing it is a better line. A good production allows for alterations.

Well, a quick search seems to suggest that around ten years ago an actor would get paid something like $5000 to $10000 for an hours episode. Oddly, from what I read in my brief Google, small roles in movies pay less per hour than TV (about $1000 per day on set). It's because an actor may go years without a 'proper' paying gig so they get paid a pretty decent whack on those rare occasions they do work.

Wait, is David saying he was pro Vietnam war, when he said he “had his own feelings on Michael crossing the border to escape the draft”, and that he “didn’t necessarily have to agree with him”? I haven’t seen the episode in months, so I don’t know if he’s talking about that, or some other aspect, thus why I’m asking.
@hoshireed773 жыл бұрын
One doesn't have to be PRO Vietnam to be against Draft Dodgers. Being against the war is about the politics of the war and if ANYONE should be fighting in it. Being against Draft Dodging, on the other hand, can be about perceiving it as selfishness and not wanting to be the one fighting but not about those who are. A "not me" attitude that doesn't address those who are dying and risking. For some it is better to show up and refuse to train, sit down and not pick up a weapon and risk jail or die for their principles instead of a no show, no sacrifice "my life comes first" and let others take their place. Especially when one has a family member who risked their life, one can feel that less bodies made the war last longer or made the target bigger on their family. If a family member died, one can believe that if there were more soldiers/sailors/airman/marines that their life could have been saved.
@AudibleFist3 жыл бұрын
@@hoshireed77 I believe there is more nuance than that might give credit for, because there was an incredible amount of bravery, stupidity, intelligence, and cowardice, along with many other things when it comes to both group’s decisions, as all people are complex. I feel bad for people who have lost loved ones in war, but adding another person to a troop in the equation wouldn’t have likely improved situations. Their were people there that were so incredibly pacifist that they never shot a bullet at a single enemy (and that goes for all wars) in Vietnam specifically it’s estimated that 50,000 bullets were fired for every one enemy killed. There’s a video that breaks it all down and more, as well as including extensive sources to those facts. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZfWpoaEn7OopLM
