Many of those eastern notebook papers have a texture that draws out the ink better than a lot of expensive papers in the US. Bravo for remarking the importance of paper to the pen.

Exactly the ink I bought for a family member! Not hugely impressed with blue inks, but they've started taking over my ink collection (Waterman Serenity Blue, washable blue from Parker, Sanford, Carter's, Diamine Registrar's Ink, Sheaffer blue-black. Parker blue-black, etc...) When the bottles start thinning, might get either this or Oxford Blue. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about this ink. God bless!

Great review, James. What I found interesting is that the shading appeared to be reddish in color but the chromatography strip had no such color. Maybe it is the lighting that made me see this shade.

Diamine is a very good default ink. I like the 80 mil bottles that come in wide base with narrow neck. Not an easy tipper like some and plenty of variety.

Nice ink. I've been using Diamine Blue Velvet, which looks like it may be similar. I have good visual color acuity, but I confess I don't have a critical eye. The more artsy colors completely elude me. Like fuchsia and mauve. I don't have a clue what they are! Blue - I've figured that much out, and a good handsome blue ink is always a nice choice.

are ANY Diamine inks at least water resistant? Twilight, Sepia, and Writers Blood sure lack that feature, no matter how long it dries. I don't gave candles to wipe over what I wrote ... even for a 5x20mm time/inventory/used log, rubbing a candle over each entry is a regal royal pain in the sitter.

For the most part, it’s just a kind of fun and interesting part of the hobby. Inks can be both surprisingly simple and complex, and it’s fascinating to watch the colors separate out and reveal the craft the ink makers had to employ to create various shades and colors.

This ink has been in limbo for me, it's vibrant enough to stand out and feel unprofessional to use in official documents but not enough to be in the fun color category.
