"Diamond Dogs" is also the name of a David Bowie album from 1974. The title track from that album is playing at the very end of the episode.
@thevoid99 Жыл бұрын
great album. anything bowie did from from his second album in 1969 to "let's dance" in 1983 is perfect. "diamond dogs" is really a transitional album where he moves away from glam while moving towards more experimental approach to writing lyrics and exploring american soul music.

first time I watched through, I didn't notice that Ted was on a verge of a panic attack when he was thrust into the media interview in episode 1. Rebecca stepped in before he went into full blown panic attack.

I mean by definition, a panic attack is an episode of extreme panic brought on by, seemingly, no rational cause. Being flown half way across the ocean and almost immediately getting grilled by a sea of people, well that seems like an apparent cause that would make almost anyone panic or uncomfortable

I love how the show sets up classic conflict tropes that on any other show would be drawn out for the drama over several episodes or more, but Ted Lasso nips it in the bud with character's personal growth and accountability, and forgiveness.

One of my favorite fun facts about ep 7: Being an Apple show, Disney initially denied the rights for Ted Lasso to use Let It Go. But they recorded the scene with Hannah singing it anyway and her performance and the way it helped tell the story of that particular scene got Disney to reverse the denial.

One of my favorite little details in The Diamond Dogs is Higgins in casual clothes. It shows that he was at home with his family yet he came to the office because Ted asked for his help. I also love Keely and Sassy’s relationship. All that matters is that is other woman loves Rebecca and Rebecca seems to love them back. That’s all they need to know to become friends.

I think one of the best parts of the Roy section of the roast, is how even in that moment, Roy's being a leader. He's forcing Nate to be confident and considerate in his thoughts. There's a moment in the bar after Lasso's bit about being curious and not judgemental, addressing Rupert, where it holds on Rebecca for a couple seconds. Earlier in the show during "For the Children" Keely says it's okay that Rebecca said something judgy because she "is a little bit judgy". In the bar Rebecca's face is a little bit sad and introspective following what Ted says; happy Rupert is getting what-for but also I have to imagine recognizing that what Ted's saying applies to her as well. Something I take as yet another brick being pulled out of the wall she put up around her true self / between her and the Ted she doesn't want to like and grow attached to given she's trying to use him to bulldoze Rupert's former club.

Just discovered your channel yesterday so I've been binge watching your Ted Lasso reactions since I just finally watched it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I really enjoy in particular the little analysis and breakdown you both do of every little nugget the show throws at you. One bit that I didn't catch until my second watch, and which I don't know if you did since there was no comment for it is that on the first episode during Ted's first morning chat with Rebecca he mentions that BBQ sauce is what most brings back memories of home, and in this episode after talking about him playing darts with his father for so many years as a kid, right before throwing that last dart he says "BBQ sauce" as a symbol of where his mind was right there.

Look at all the views and subscribers! You guys are a lot of fun. These two episodes are really great together. I enjoy rewatching the growth of the characters and all the little hints that are thrown in foretelling the future. I think those are when we get the Jacqui faces mentioned below! Okay, so, the woman Rupert's engaged to. I've never seen this actually said in an interview but...Keeley Jones is a topless model who uses her success to launch a different career (in her case, branding). Rupert's finaceé is played by a good friend of Jason Sudekis', who he's known for years. She's a former topless model who used her success to launch a different career (in her case, acting and writing - she's actually a writer on Ted Lasso). Her name is Keeley Hazell. I find it very hard to believe that Keeley the character isn't at least partly based on Keeley the person.
@gi82282 жыл бұрын
Yes, "spend a penny" means going to the bathroom, and it's one of the coloquialisms the british cast brought to a script written by americans. Juno said this is something her grandma says or used to say and she asked if she could say that instead of "going to the loo" and Jason liked it, so they kept it. One thing that always felt icky to me is the speech Sassy gives Rebecca. I love the whole "holding each other accountable" thing they got going, and I 100% understand and agree with Sassy mentioning how much it hurt to have to explain to her six year old daughter why her aunty disappeared, I love that part. What I don't like is the ivory tower part, because it's been established that Rebecca was in a controlling abusive relatioship (first step to abuse is isolating the victim from their support system) so when Sassy aknowledges that Rupert "kept her captive" but then goes on to say she basically let him abuse her never sat right with me. I get what they were trying to do and I agree, I just think the phrasing could've been better. Rebecca's "I thought we were friends" to Higgins absolutely breaks me every time. She was completely alone except for her one friend who she then finds out was only hanging out with her because her abuser told him to!! The hurt, the betrayal!!! It makes so much sense that Rebecca treats Higgins how she does, given their history, especially at the end of episode 6/beginning of 7. From what Jason and Jeremy have said, Higgins is a "product of toxic masculinity" (Jason's exact words), so it's kind of a given that he was also suffering the same treatment from Rupert when he was in charge (except Rebecca's doing it out of hurt, Rupert's just a dick). The difference is that now he has Ted and Beard. So now he's growing as well and building up the courage to do the right thing and help Rebecca do the same, like when he quits and tells her to stop. But from Rebecca's perspective, it feels like he was willing to manipulate and deceive her at Rupert's request but won't do the same to Ted on her request. So what she gets from that is that he still has more respect for Rupert than for her, which is obviously not true, because we know he cares for her. But she doesn't know that. That's the result of more than a decade of abuse.
@theshamelist2 жыл бұрын
Firstly, thank you for clarifying that! It's wonderful to hear that they've been so open to adjustments, and make such an effort to keep it authentic. Secondly, that's an interesting point about Sassy, and it's great to hear perspectives we maybe hadn't considered. Thirdly, I loved reading your thoughts about Higgins. I hadn't heard Jeremy Swift's comments about him, and hearing that he was a product of toxic masculinity makes a great deal of sense. It's beautiful to see the growth, and that the show doesn't shy away from admitting how flawed people can be, but also shows that they're capable of being better if they're given the chance. Thank you for the thoughtful analysis, and for taking the time to share. ❤️Jacqui

@codykirchner96062 жыл бұрын
I get what you're saying, and it is certainly a difficult issue. However, there is responsibility there. Yes, she was in an abusive relationship, but those things are never one sided. The abuser takes, but the abused also gives, and they do have to come to grips with the fact that they did it. They are not released from responsibility by being a victim, they are just granted understanding for it.
@gi82282 жыл бұрын
@@codykirchner9606 Oh I agree that she should take responsibility for neglecting Sassy and Nora!! In that scene she had just apologized for exactly that, which I loved!! I just didn’t like the wording of “he built an ivory tower he kept you captive in, but you climbed every step yourself” (or something like that) because it sounds (to me) like she’s talking about Rebecca willingly walking into an abusive relationship which is not how it works at all. I agree that she should apologize for how her actions affected others (which she did) but not for the abuse itself you know? idk if I’m making sense but it’s just the wording issue for me, other than that I loved the meaning of the scene. Sorry english is not my first language lol
@laurelf.20572 жыл бұрын
@@gi8228 I feel like this is an instance where the writers either didn't entirely think the implications through or just worded it awkwardly. Hopefully this isn't too vague of a reference - I'm trying not to spoil anything in case Sam reads this - but there's a conversation in early season 2 that's a bit similar. It's not with or about Rebecca, but the line that the person says doesn't come off great. While I think it's more easily defensible in that conversation than this one, given the context at play and neither party knowing the other's full background, to me it has the same "is this really what you guys meant to say?" vibe.
