@@ecor150 You mean... The Most FIRE. What you are seeing in Moissanite is an extreme FIRE caused by its double refraction. FIRE is only one component of Brilliance there is also Scintillation and White Light return. Because of this Double refraction, the Light Ray that enters the Moissanite is not reflected in a Defined Flash but rather the Light Ray is split up into spectral hues, therefore the fire overpowers the other components of Brilliance; white light, and scintillation. Diamond and CZ are both singly refractive and therefore have the ability to display all the of the components of brilliance.

@@fo11773 No disrespect, you Obviously have not a clue about Gemology. Even if a Synthetic Moissanite were to contain a small amount of carbon it is still not a diamond. A Diamond has to be composed of 100% Elemental Carbon to be an actual Diamond. The International Gemstone Authority, GIA has classified Moissanite as an Imitation Diamond as It simulates a genuine Diamond. I understand some folks that have actually purchased moissanite say it looks good. However, it is not necessary to lie to folks about moissanite, in fact, it is illegal to misrepresent a product. Clearly, there is a lot of misinformation regarding all imitation diamonds.

Moissanite is a genuine gemstone of it's own kind that is similar to a diamond. There are many gemstones to choose for jewelry from sapphire to turquoise. Only in the minds that have been influenced to believe a diamond is the standard gemstone to buy and that it is rare, expensive and prestigious will dismiss other gemstones...Cut the cord of mental enslavement and enjoy, also appreciate new things.

Absolutely correct. The propaganda that diamonds are forever and that Diamonds are extremely rare and priceless was spread by De beers. The fact is that Diamonds are undoubtedly very precious and beautiful natural stones but neither are they rare nor are they the only priceless gemstones. In fact Moissanite stones are equally or probably even more durable sparkling and beautiful gemstones than diamonds. In fact Diamonds have almost the same physical properties as Diamonds. So I strongly feel that people should abandon Diamonds completely and shift to Moissanite stones as an alternative. Moreover Moissanite costs just 10-15% of Diamonds.

I just dropped off my moissanite at a local family jeweler for the center stone to be tightened in and the woman asked me after looking at it, "Do you know what the stone is?" like making sure I know that it's isn't a "real diamond". Like girl- I know. That's why I picked it out in the first place. It's beautiful, eco-friendly, and didn't put a hole in my husband's pocket. All around the best decision to make for me.

I chose my ring (moissanite center stone) and my soon to be fiancé was definitely surprised in a good way :). Diamonds are beautiful, don’t get me wrong…but so is moissanite and every other gem! They’re all just as beautiful and valuable as the next in my opinion. I wasn’t going to make my boyfriend spend the equivalent of a down payment on a house just for a particular stone that costs more only because people decided that it should lol.

Back around 1995-ish, I worked at a jewelry store. Moissanite first came into stores and the pricing was just as high as diamonds because people considered it to be in the same category. So people were paying exhorbitant prices for this stone. Fast forward years later and prices dropped significantly. It is a beautiful stone, we've all been brainwashed to believe that a diamond is the end all be all. I say, buy whatever you like: moissanite, diamond, ruby, aquamarine...all that matters is that *you* love it.

I brought some Charles & Colvard moissanite gems into a prestigious jewelry store to have them placed into a setting. All their diamonds were excellently cut, _far_ better than anything at Kay's or Jared's. I was surprised that, even under the ideal lighting, the moissanites looked exactly like the diamonds. The diamonds did not have more contrast as some diamonds online seem to have. And, the moissanites did not have noticeably more fire. Honestly, I was a little disappointed that the moissanite didn't look noticeably more beautiful than the diamond, but at least it looked as gorgeous. The stones were 6mm and under. I believe the differences between moissanite and diamond are more noticeable at 7.5mm and larger.

So I think the size of the moissanite makes a difference in how different they look. I just got some .5 ct earrings and they look just like my diamond ring. That's .25 ct each. I have also a 2 ct equivilant Moissanite cushion and round brilliant each... they do show where moissanite shines- with more fire and brilliance than a diamond due to their refraction index. I wouldn't turn away a diamond (or any jewelry) gift, but I am totally happy with moissanite. I believe they have really exploded in quality and options of sellers since c&c's patent expired. Love love my moissanite, right now from China. If I can afford the pricier stuff later, I'll buy from an American company but for now, the stuff from China is good enough and it fits my beer budget for sure.

Great video! I prefer the colorful sparkle you can get from the moissanite, diamonds are beautiful, but more of a crushed glittery ice. Question: What if you are buying a moissanite gemstone by itself? What are the differences in quality to look for? And what about potential cloudiness?
@abbysparksjewelry
@abbysparksjewelry 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Carla! Glad you liked :) That is a great question! When purchasing moissanite always make sure it is coming from an accredited company that has a lot of authority. Do a lot of research on them and make sure you trust that you're actually purchasing a real moissanite, and not a mystery stone. When it comes to quality, if you are buying from a reputable source you shouldn't have to worry about large differences in the hardness or the refractive index of the stone, or even lots of inclusions because moissanite is lab grown. A really good company will be able to maintain the majority of the quality standards across their stones. Almost all moissanite will have some slight inclusions (what would make your stone look cloudy), but they typically won't be visible to the naked eye, so pay attention to or ask about inclusions when purchasing the stone. The biggest variation you may see is variation in the colors of the stone, which are graded in a similar way to diamonds. If you want your moissanite to be that really bright white, you want to go for a colorless (D, E, or F Range) stone.

@abbysparksjewelry
@abbysparksjewelry 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! LOVE that you know about the mohs scale, that is so important. You're right, since moissy's are rated just under diamonds on the mohs scale, they are hard enough for everyday wear. I always say that a stone needs to be a 7,8,9, or 10 to be a good choice for an engagement ring. They should not get cloudy or change color over time either. Because we didn't have the technology to create them in a lab until recently, moissanites have only been around since the late 90's-early 2000s, but keeps getting better and higher quality as we develop better technology. If you want to learn more, The American Gem Society is a reputable, unbiased source and they have an article on moissanites here: www.americangemsociety.org/news/359699/The-Mysteries-of-Moissanite.htm

I have seven moissanites and five diamonds and I like my diamonds but when you look at their value, they are a dime a dozen. The price of a diamond is like driving a new car off the lot, it pummels down in value there are so many of them! You can’t resale them even close to their appraisal value. Nope. But a moinssanite is just as hard, it has a beautiful deep clarity and it reflects the color of a rainbow. People will ask you if that diamond is real! Or how much did you pay, or where did you purchase it. I just love my moinssanite and there isn’t that many out there at all. Plus there is actual moinssanite that has developed in the earth just like a diamond, but not like a diamond in quantity. They're more rare. But you get more bang for you buck with moinssanite. They are gorgeous!!

@derek flint Mined diamonds aren't going to decline in value as long as De Beers controls the release of stones for sale.
@Austin1990
@Austin1990 4 жыл бұрын
@@HotVoodooWitch De Beers only controls about 30% of the natural diamond market these days. And, diamond mines are running out. The value of natural diamonds will increase unless the demand drop (or plummets) due to lab diamonds. I expect lab diamonds to become the standard in the industry, like most of what you will see in a mall jewelry store. In the least, most of the smaller accent diamonds will be lab diamonds. Currently, De Beers is trying to put all other lab diamond companies out of business by under pricing lab diamonds so that it will have a monopoly on the technology. Then, it can keep lab diamonds from decreasing the value of mined diamonds. Then, it could charge as much for lab diamonds as natural diamonds while having much higher margins on the lab diamonds.

So in 20 years , will the moissy still be brilliant and keep appearance? Will it turn into dark grayish tarnished like stone? As I've seen with cw?
@rasta6603

jan joy You mean Cubic Zirconia? That’s not close to moissanite in its composition and it isn’t a gemstone. Moissanite is a gemstone that keeps its brilliance just as long as a diamond. Forever.

2:00 You mentioned that moissanite has carbon & silicone, what percent of carbon and silicone? How is the carbon doped with silicone?
@Austin1990
@Austin1990 4 жыл бұрын
Moissanite is a silicon (not silicone) carbide crystal. Silicon carbide is a molecule, SiC. There is no doping. It is a completely different material from diamond.

Maybe someone can answer this, I found a lot of Jewelers will not resize a cz or a moissanite ring. I have a wedding ring size 4 or 4.5 depending on band size. Now my other fingers ok I can get sizes for a 5 but most of the time there is no 5.5 for the other middle finger. So yes I just prefer a dimond, then I know I can get it resized if I ever need to. If they are real diamonds what is the reason jewellers don't resize them?
@tranquility9325
@tranquility9325 4 жыл бұрын
I have had a moissy resized with zero problems. If a jeweler knows what they are doing, neither sizing should be an issue. Of course they prefer you to buy from them to make that quick sale.

It depends on the metal. Platinum and rose gold rings are difficult because they require more heat to solder. Same with sterling silver. I have never had any problems getting my 14k yellow gold cz rings sized, not in 30 years, but no jeweler will touch my sterling silver ones.

Huh? Moissanites are not a natural stone. Not on Earth at least. You cannot mine moissanites from our planet. Moissanites are from outer space that landed here on Earth from a comet or a meteor. But its chemical composition can be found here in our planet, that’s why it can only be recreated in a lab, because the Earth cannot naturally produce it. But yes, I agree that it is it’s own stone different from a diamond but look similar, actually more beautiful.

Its true that most mossianite is found in Meteorites, but small amounts have actually been found in the Green River Formation in Wyoming, and in some Kimberlite formations in Russia. It's extremely rare both in meteorites and upper mantle rock. So you are correct, there's not enough in the earth to be mined, it has to be created in the lab, but it has been found in very small amounts in the earth. 🙂This GIA article is from the 90's so it's admittedly a bit dated, but goes more in depth on the terrestrial sources of moissanite: www.gia.edu/doc/Winter-1997-Gems-Gemology-Synthetic-Moissanite-Diamond-Substitute.pdf

Are colored moissanites more harder and expensive to find than a non colored moissanite stone?
@Austin1990
@Austin1990 4 жыл бұрын
Natural moissanite is far too rare and small; none of the moissanite you can buy in jewelry will be "found". It will all be grown. The price difference between a white and colored moissanite will probably be dependent upon the market more than any technical difference.

I have no knowledge of stones but i can tell the difference between the two straight away. A diamond has a deeper colour to it. Where as Moissanite is more clear and white looking.

Visually, price and durability-wise, moissanite totally wins out. Why do people still ask questions like, 'are they real?' Yes, moissanites, and even zirconias, are real gem stones.

So many speak of diamonds as if it’s a waste. Yes you DO NOT buy diamonds as an investment. But to say “I rather save thousands on diamonds and buy moissanites are clueless” moissanite can cost thousands as well. So why not buy a smaller Diamond for the same price and when you have to resell at least you get some of your money back. But a moissy is worthless, nowhere or no one will purchase them back so resell value doesn’t exist for moissanite. Even CVD lab diamonds pawn shops are hesitant and even they don’t buy those either. All I’m saying is that… true diamonds loses resell value but at least it’s not a complete lost unlike all the other gems

It's all in the cut. Yours must have been badly cut. Even white sapphires can look just like diamonds if the cut is right. I even have white topaz that looks like a diamond because the cut is just right. That's always been the trick with white topaz; it usually looks like a piece of glass, but mine, sparkles like a diamond. I was very surprised.
