Here are three reasons why Diana doesn't sound human. First, she is a dramatic contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below) When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune. And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She's not one in a million, she's one in seven billion.

This is a new competition show and those are her competitors in the stand reacting to her singing. The guy who stands up is an opera singer who is blown away. Diana is something of an expert in harmonic production. People like to call her polyphonic, but it's not always overtones. She's also frighteningly good at subharmonics and I have no idea how she does it. I know how to access the subharmonic register with vocal fry like basses do, but what she does is something completely different. That subharmonic belt at the end is some kind of black magic technique. Full head voice was a new treat with this performance. You didn't hear that much from her when she was younger. She said in interviews that she got really insecure up there when her voice first changed. She always had great agility in full chest voice, but now she should be able to do all those eastern runs on higher notes with a high placed mix. She's still one of the best chest belters I've ever heard, though. Effortless and full of volume. For us mortals our voices would get wrecked. Her speaking voice is extremely resonant with the kind of buzzing that you hear in bass voices. Of course that's where all that depth of timbre and color comes from.

Diana sings every Saturday on Russian TV for two Months. This was the first song and she has uploaded all 3 of them to date on her official KZbin channel. They are all amazing plus she doesn't block like Russian NTV station does. Her non-English songs all have quality English subtitles as well. She has six more Saturdays of performances to go. She filmed this show on her school break. There are no judges...just 8 of her peers singing and they rate each other for fun.

In her performances, Diana uses techniques that mainstream performers in live concerts try to avoid at all costs. Only a performer who is one hundred percent confident in his abilities takes such a risk. For example Dimash. If you want to see Diana, completely unfamiliar to you, check out "Mama I'm Dancing". The song itself is low-quality pop, all the more interesting how Diana transformed it. After this performance, many compared her to the ancient Greek goddess. The goddess of nature, Diana was already (River), she was a ghost (Wicked Game), as well as the reincarnation of an ancient warrior princess, now into a Greek goddess :)

Mesmerizing, bewitching, magical, trully astonishing. She can channel enormous energies, grab our attention and take us to her world. Hope there will be similar songs among the other 8 categories.... She already trained her voice even further at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) in Moscow where she studies, yet she is still super young (18), and personal experience cannot be exchanged with the very much always needed learning, doing drills after drills after drills (Like Dimash). So in this way it is good she can experience so many cool performances first hand, live, inspired, and also singing 9 songs from different genres will be challenging but rewarding in the long term. Some details of this performance: The ShowMaskGoon is a new TV show on Russian NTV channel, every saturday (6 episodes left, 3rd already aired), where best/winners of 3 music shows (The Mask, You are Super, Superstar) perform, and vote giving 2 to 9 points to each other at every episode's end. So those sitting up there are the other singers, Diana sits with them when others perform. Plus the guest star of each episode, this time it was Yusif Eyvazov (opera singer, tenor, he stood up during the performance). They got only one 9 point, one 8 point, etc. So they are forced to give 2 points to someone, and they wont vote for themselves. She got 7x 9 points, 1x 8 points this round. The guest star of this episode gave 1 point to everyone equally = 72 total. Did you notice,when she did these high runs (the part where the opera singer got to his feet) and she ended with a long note, her powerful deep voice already appeared underneath,while she still was holding the high note. This polyphonic sound is one of the most amazing effects in her singing and it's shattering and heart warming at the same time. Greetings from Germany!
