I really like this idea,it doesn't take a long time to do so I can get some art in on days I am busy. I did the trees last night and enjoyed myself. I do have one question,what are pastel pencils? Are they what we call colored pencils in the U.S.?

This is one of my favorite exercises and/or warmups. It’s fun coming up with color schemes, easy to paint the squares or circles, and then a bit of a creative challenge in mark-making. I haven’t painted for a while and now it feels a bit scary to try again. This is a perfect way to ease back into it! Thanks, Diane!

We had to be so careful about applying that cheek hollowing shadow. What with that and the heavy black mascara. So easy to look like a ghoul.

Great! This would be so good for unwinding and just relaxing, while not being too intense about what I'm painting. We watch old movies in the evening, and some of them I doodle while I watch...from the things I see in the movie setting....I'm amazed that there are so many different designs and forms to collect for a mark/doodle painting just from watching movies. Now to find the time to just do a relaxing doodle painting :)

This one was a lot of fun - although I never seem to quite match up complementary colors very well! I'm thinking the Art Nourveau set helps with that, but I don't have them yet, so I did this with my Cotman paints. It was still relaxing ... even when I ran out of doodle ideas and went down the rabbit hole of searching for doodle ideas. LOL.

Hi Diane. Thank you for your posts. I follow every one and love the free no-worries style. Re: Kuretake art Nouveau scarcity - I'm revisiting my few Turner Watercolors that I didn't like at first because of their slight opacity. Some of them are called opaque and are very similar to the Kuretake colors - Clove, Cinnabar, sprout...there are others. Still looking for some similar blues, but am giving them another look.

That’s interesting about the Turner paint, I haven’t tried any of their colors. Do those ones come in the sets?

Jackson’s has sets but prob contains mostly transparent colors. Tubes only. But Jackson’s is having a sale on singles right now and their stock is good. Couldn’t hurt to try a couple. I’m gonna add a couple after seeing how beautiful your abstracts and doodles come out.

Thank you very much, I have that exact palette that I bought recently but havent played with it so this is great little tutorial to help me get them out and put them to use. The colours are just so gorgeous and I love not "having to think or mix". Was I the only one that had to turn off the volume at the end of the video because of the scratching noise the white pencil was making? It gives em creeps up the spine, like when you hear nails on a blackboard. Gosh I am too delicate. x-D But the rest I found super soothing and relaxing.

@@DianeAntoneStudio No problem, I understand not everyone is that sensitive to sounds 🙂I would not be able to do that, or maybe it doesn't sound so bad in real life. Or you just don't realice when you are enjoying yourself colouring. Thanks also for the downloads of sketches, I just discovered them today and downloaded several of them to do your video tutorials this august since I am on vacation. Its such a good idea, I love colouring but I am bad at drawing from scratch, makes it so much easier. Looking forward to those feathers! But will do the doodles first to get the hang of the new paints.
