Years ago I would make my own Christmas cards. I've always loved to paint, but haven't always painted. I went through a phase of drawing botanical illustrations, another passion. I still work since I'm 62, though not full time anymore. I caught a glimpse of a thumbnail of your KZbin channel. My heart reacted physically. Like seeing a long lost love. I've since dug out all my "art stuff" to do cards this year. My watercolor pans are still in great condition... I'm missing many brushes but not all. I even found a stash of paper. Let the videos begin.💖

Hi JH and welcome to the channel! So nice to hear your story, and I wanted to take time to reply properly to you so apologies for the delay. I also have been through phases of not painting, for example when seriously ill, or going through other traumas. Just the times when people say you should paint, those were the times when I couldn't. However, I have always come back to it eventually, as if I knew that one day it would be important in a larger sense. Since starting this channel I have realised that reaching out and touching people through these videos is the one really meaningful and good action I have been permitted to take in my life. So I am so happy that you felt that when you discovered my presence. I wish you a joyful reawakening of your painting life, and send you love and happiness this Christmastide xxx

I followed a couple of others at first, as well as Diane, but I just love her and the way she has made me feel able to paint. I am impressing myself and my family! I am sticking with her and have painted for three months, everyday, with her! Love this group, too!

I discovered watercolours a couple years ago when I decided to try calligraphy again to create colourful unique envelopes. When I get some free time I want to try some fir trees again like you have demonstrated … I agree they aren’t straight forward to paint but I think I’ll have more success with with your layering techniques. This year though all my Christmas envelopes are Ukrainian themed with blue and yellow baubles on the front with blue and silver splatter, and the back filled with sunflowers. Painting envelopes (made from an A4 sheet of suitable paper) means you can paint something for practise and also brighten someone’s day rather than accumulate heaps of practise pieces. Coated with petroleum jelly (applied with finger , allow day to absorb and then gently rub off any excess) they are waterproof so won’t smudge in transit.
@DianeAntoneStudio2 жыл бұрын
Hi Charlie Foxtrot and thanks so much for your interesting comments. Lovely idea to tribute Ukraine in your Christmas theme. I must try that idea of petroleum jelly on envelopes, sounds a bit strange but I can see why it would work! Lots of different ways of painting fir trees and we have several videos you might enjoy. This one is very popular, maybe you have seen it? kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6mXkniKZbVlmsU Sending you joy this Christmastide xxx

I‘m so sorry to hear about your tragic loss Bonnie. I can‘t begin to imagine how that must feel, to lose your home. Do you mean the waterbrushes, the ones with water in the barrel? If so yes, I‘ve used them and I like them for a lot of things. Wishing you all the best in recovering your life, and hopefully you‘ll be able to have a lovely Christmas too.
@designideas222 жыл бұрын
At the Academy of Arts, our teachers insisted on using brushes with natural bristles only when working with watercolors. (True, this concerned works not picturesque, but related to design design). Today there is a large assortment of brushes with artificial bristles. Which option do you prefer more? Perhaps share information - where to buy brushes is preferable (I mean quality).
@DianeAntoneStudio2 жыл бұрын
I only use synthetic brushes nowadays. I find they keep their point better and hold just as much paint as a natural brush. Sable is too expensive also, and not as good quality as it used to be. I use "Drawell" brushes, made by a manufacturer in Japan. They are very inexpensive, and if you order several the postage isn't too bad, they still work out at a good price. The ones I use are Golden Nylon Series 11-2, and I use mostly sizes 7or 9 and 10 and 13. I also use the Maestro ones, and I have sizes 3, 5 and 7 for more detailed work as they have a better point. Here's the website. The owner is a very friendly and polite Japanese gentleman. If you email him he will send you a price list in dollars. www.drawell.co.jp/english/product.html
