Diane I really love this little floral painting, I can see so many uses for it. I live in Australia on the south east coast. I lost all of my art supplies during the “Black Summer Bushfires” 2019/20 and I’m slowly building them up again. I very much like the water colours you do and I’m learning so many new techniques. I’m 68 in a few weeks and I love to listen to you as I quite often identify with your thoughts. Up until about 6 years ago my art consisted of sewing ie: dressmaking and patchwork but after shoulder surgery and arthritis spreading through my body I find sitting at the machine too painful but sitting doing art not so much. I just love the way watercolour plays. I have a fairly natural ability with putting colours together so when they come out to play together its all sorts of delightful. Thank you for your amazing generosity. Oh and PS I’m a farmer. My husband and I run a commercial beef enterprise. We run 200 breeding cows Charolais snd Limousine both French breeds❤

Hi Deb. I am also in Australia, SEQ. Also, a dressmaker and quilter having issues with arthritis and shoulder and spine issues, and I will be 60 in two weeks. Surprisingly, also used to farm cattle along with wheat, peanuts, and milo. Such a small, small world. 😁

I love this idea as a gift for my mom. She is going into a nursing home this week. It helps when tearing to bend paper both ways and wet both sides of the tear line. Watercolour paper is so much tougher than ordinary card. Loving your whimsical watercolour lessons. Soooo relaxing. ❤

Diane, the card and bookmark are both so pretty. I love how you limited your colors to only three and made such lovely flowers. The outline is simple yet elegant. It's amazing how you can just dap the paper in areas to add in the paint and have it create such beauty. I will definitely be giving this a go for spring cards. On another note, I am going to go back this week to rewatch a foxglove video you made quite a while ago. It's one of my favorite flowers and I'm really trying to improve on them. I'm trying to be more free with my painting and not overthink, which is kind of difficult for me :) and I'm thinking of trying the technique you used in this one for the foxglove and just let the paint go where it goes, then outline in ink. If you need any tutorial suggestions, I'd love to see tutorial on foxgloves. One of the many wonderful things about your channel is that you are such an inspiring, creative, and positive teacher. I love all of your videos, Diane! I watch you every day! How in the world does the paint flow SO WELL on cellulose paper?? Even when I use 100% cotton paper, my paint doesn't flow the way yours does in this video. Maybe I need to buy Kuretake paint? Hmmm.... not sure. I've tried SO MANY brands of paint. I have enough to last me at least three lifetimes! Ha ha! Anyway, your creation is beautiful!

Hi Nancy, the answer is in the sizing of the paper. The stuff they coat it with to make the water flow, not the size of the sheet of paper. Confusing language. But they use what they call sizing to treat the paper to make the surface behave in a certain way. Arches traditional 100% cotton paper is sized so that the colors can be layered without moving, and colors will merge very delicately together when they meet wet.
