Dave Grohl is HEAVILY anti-drug, and the band is active in the anti-drug movement. Hawkins’ death came as a major shock to the band. Grohl has been vocal about his grief and has done several interviews where he spoke very frankly about Cobain and Hawkins and his depression experiences following both deaths.

Long time Sub, Never asked for anything, not once, until today. The FF's did continue on after a break, but just 8 days before Taylor's passing, they played a big outdoor gig in Mexico. They chose a popular 3 pc Power trio of all sisters named "THE WARNING", to open up for them. They was extremely kind and supporting of them, and treated them as equals. Sharing the stage lights and full sound system for the 55,000 fans in front of that massive stage, these little Ladies ages 17, 20, & 22 got that massive crowd fired up so well, that the band Muse took notice. When Muse came to Mexico for 4 shows, they asked These gals to be the main supporting act for them as well, in 3 major cites, with even larger crowds. These power rockers didn't disappoint, they melted faces across the country. so much, that Muse took them to Europe to open 9 major shows, and festivals there, including Rock am Ring/Park. They was so well received there, that they are returning April 2024 for a month long 19 show tour, then again for Wacken! Yes, they was in the first group of bands invited there. I would love for you check out one of the two (or both) songs they just played, on the 2023 MTV VMA's. More & Evolve. I know you will love them Diane. 💓

Dave Grohl is the last true rock god. Other musicians are putting on an act. They're trying to seem cool and build a personality, and portray themselves in a certain way. Dave Grohl's not doing any of that. This is just naturally who he is and what he does. He's a super nice, chill, genuine dude who's super charitable and like rolls up to soup kitchens to help and stuff, and he just dresses like a lumberjack or Jesus or lounges around in a t-shirt or whatever, and hangs out with his buds. He was the drummer for Nirvana. He was already part of something legendary before he decided to become his own legend. After the death of Kurt Cobain he went on to found the Foo fighters, and instead of being the drummer he became the guitarist and lead singer, and he's transcended far beyond anything Nirvana ever accomplished. He's happy to be goofy, he knows how to be intense and he knows how to sit there and build the energy in a crowd for like 10 minutes and then make the crowd explode. He's super easy going and rolls with the punches. One time he broke his leg in the middle of a concert, so he just grabbed a chair and he sat there and he played the rest of the concert with a broken leg after they put his leg in a cast. No big deal. So many other musicians put so much effort into trying to rock and maintaining a persona, and Dave Grohl just naturally does it. And other musicians know it. Like if you've ever watched Jack Black's band Tenacious D and their music video for the song 'Tribute', or the Tenacious D movie The Pick Of Destiny, In both cases Dave grohl plays the devil himself, which is a call back to folklore and legends about how The Devil would show up to make deals with musicians and give them their talents in exchange for their souls. So basically Jack Black cast Dave Grohl as effectively the god of music. And the song that you were talking about, 'Learn To Fly', You need to go rewatch that music video, or rather watch it for the first time ever I guess. And there you will see how much of an absolute goober Dave Grohl actually is, because he plays numerous characters in that video, including little girls and stewardesses and the pilot, etc (Jack Black and Kyle G. from Tenacious D are both in that music video too) And even more highly recommended I would say you should go watch 'Everlong'. Which I think is probably pretty universally recognized as their best song. It's kind of got a very different underlying tone and vibe from 'The Pretender'. Where 'The Pretender' is an abrasive challenge, battle cry, and defiance against like political corruption, lies, manipulation, and abuse of power.... .....'Everlong' is dark, smooth, melancholy, somber, wistful, longing.... It's gorgeous. Dave Grohl was also the drummer for The Queens Of The Stone Age at their peak, at THE SAME TIME that he was leading the Foo Fighters. He is also the drummer for Them Crooked Vultures. You should also check out his series of videos where he's having a back and forth drumming contest with a little girl who's an amazing drummer. It's just like a series of KZbin videos they kept sending each other. It was awesome. And then I think she ended up actually playing with the Foo Fighters in the end, at one of their shows. He had her come up and be the drummer for 'Everlong'. The man is just an absolute legend. (FTR The Foo Fighters just recently lost their drummer to drug overdose. RIP)

They aren't my #1 favorite band, but you might consider them my favorite since I've never liked 15 songs from any other band this much. I've liked their old songs my whole life. In my opinion, their older songs are good, but their new songs are f###### AMAZING!!! Their best new songs in order for me are: 1. Love Dies Young. First time I heard it was a few months ago in a popular Asian restaurant in Tulsa that is very family-friendly. It's called Roku. 2. Rescued 3. Under You 4. Making A Fire Plus, Dave Grohl is just an all around great dude! I feel like you would love a band called The Killers, so I'm recommending them. They are my favorite band. Great reaction Diane! Foo Fighters have long been one of my favourite bands and this song is my fav from them. Glad you liked it! If I can suggest another band to react to, the band The Warning is a great rock band with music in a similar style to the Foo Fighters. The Warning have opened for the Foo Fighters before in their home country of Mexico and are going on their first full headlining tour of Europe in April. They toured Europe last year doing festivals and opening for various bands including Muse, who invited them to come to England to open for them after hearing them when they opened for Muse in Mexico. The Warning consists of three sisters, Daniella (lead guitar and vocals), Paulina (Drums and vocals), and Alejandra (Bass guitar and backing vocals). They sing mostly in English, but do have a couple of Spanish songs in their repertoire. I'll warn you (pun intended) that they are incredible even though they are still quite young (the youngest sister will turn 19 next month), and they are incredible musicians and song writers. All their songs are good, but try starting off with Dust to Dust, Choke, Animosity, or Survive. The Warning rabbit hole is quite deep. 😀

Rather than Emo lets say Alt rock, grunge or hard rock. Absolutely amazing band with tons of great songs. Listen to everything by them. Since you liked The Pretender you will find dozens of songs in that vein as well as other types of rock.

There is a good song cover that you should watch on Twitch(if you ever Steam again)(Nudge nudge hint hint) The song covered was 'Learn to Fly', a group of 1000 musicians played the song together in rural Italy to get the band's attention to try to get a concert near them and it worked. "Learn to Fly - Foo Fighters Rockin'1000"

1. The best thing to ever come from Nirvana is the Foo Fighters. 2. Keep going through their library. Baker Street and Darling Nicki are a couple surprise covers. 3. Look up some Dave Grohl interviews. Incredibly humble artist and great interview. 4. Not sure where you can find it, but look for the Sound City documentary. 5. Don’t call The Foo’s “emo”.

Back in the 60s and 70s we just called it rock or hard rock. In the '90s, Alternative Rock was new hard rock. Classic Rock was 60s and 70s hard rock. It was all rock. In the 80s, kids listened to 60s and 70s music because the 80s music was vapid wretch. Then there was a lot of the 2000s and 2010s when rock sort of died out. Except for bands like The Warning.

90's grunge was much harder and sincere as the time's heavy music. No wonder Nirvana and later on Foo Fighters had their explosive succees. 90's kids with consoles and all were not so much to the devil theme anymore... Too bad this era of music fell short. Now there is left only 30's To Mars and good pop and brilliant new wawe of late dubstep and like Tropical House by KYGO, WHO IS A BRILLIANT GUY IN ALL RESPECTS, but we lack rock like this... or punk what ever you want it to be called... I can't anymore listen todays rock but with some exceptions a it doesn't give anything anymore. If Jared and Shannon quits... we will have a time without a real rock unless someone brave enough tries to make what he/she or what they wan't to do regardles of anything else. This stupid TV-Show filled X-Factor, Idols and all the fucking nonsense has to stop. No one really want's to hear some one else to sing what you have already heard. We want more, but in class:P

The band is called THE WARNING, 3 sisters who love Rock&Roll , from Mexico. React to DISCIPLE, from the 2022 Teatro Metropolitan CDMX sold out concert. Once you do, you will be hooked. Any of the 23 songs from that concert will amaze you. The girls are now 23, 21, and 19yrs old and have been a band for 10 years. Yeah, the math boggles the mind!!

"Anti-drug" is both obvious AND more complicated. Dave was certainly exposed to recreational drugs (weed and LSD) but his personal bent seems more toward lots of coffee to fuel his relentless creativity (lots of interviews, including one where he went to his doctor with caffein overdose symptoms). Just as obviously, he's seen the dark side of heroin on multiple occasions. He doesn't seem like a prude, just someone who knows what can happen. The REST of the band (originally) started off as half of emo-ish Seattle rockers Sunny Day Real Estate and the early rotation of second guitarists drew from Dave's existing relationships (Pat Smear, fucking legend, was on and off again; Franz Stahl played for the band that first took Dave on the road as a teen). I'm an old fart now, apparently, but grew up in the nascent Seattle scene and saw the early days of all this stuff in dripping basements and illegal clubs that would hold 40 kids and a band under a bare lightbulb. Seriously. It was like that. The "upscale" place to play had invested in an Army-surplus parachute as their big decor item. Mid-80's, the city fathers got worked up about all-age shows and effectively banned them which relegated the under-21 music scene to odd corners and keg parties and there was a lot of time with you and 12 friends smoking dope and taking turns on instruments. From such things are greatness born.
