Some people are friends with you because they are better than you, but once you rub shoulders or it looks like you will get better, they change. Not everyone should be gifted the name of a friend. Let us make it commonplace to refer to people by their status: neighbor, churchgoer, former or current coworker, schoolmate etc.

For example, if someone you consider a best friend continues to interact with your ex-fiancé without drawing clear boundaries-despite knowing how it affects you-it’s a blatant disregard for your feelings. A big red Bedsheet, not a common red flag. Friendships require mutual respect, and if she valued you as deeply as you value her, she would prioritize your feelings over maintaining unnecessary connections. Some might justify this behavior by claiming neutrality, saying they don’t want to “take sides,” but neutrality can sometimes come across as passivity or even complicity in situations like this. I’ve been in a VERY similar situation with a close friend also from secondary school. In our 30s, I finally had to end the friendship after multiple instances of what I saw as disloyalty, selfishness and etc. It’s painful when someone you see as a sister doesn’t align with your expectations of respect and loyalty, but sometimes, protecting your peace means walking away.

I wouldn’t ever comment on a KZbin video. In fact I often joke that if it were for only me, KZbinrs wouldn’t make any money. But I stumbled on this video today and I read your comment. All I can say is - Thank You. It’s very validating to know that someone somewhere has the same line of reasoning as I do where friendship and values are concerned. The scenario you described was me a few years ago. For the longest time I had put up with what I felt was disloyalty from a friend whom I considered a sister. After she pulled a last stunt in 2020, I finally summoned courage to tell myself the truth which was that she clearly didn’t see me the same way I saw her. I was in my 30’s and I walked away from a 20+ year old friendship. No one understood it and everyone tried to get me to talk with her but I had had enough. I’ve shied away from getting too close to people since then but fortunately, I’ve met some great people and I feel a lot safer with them. So, thank you. Contrary to what other people may have thought at the time, reading your comment makes me feel like my feelings were valid.

I love this episode so much. 2024 is a year where I have been deeply hurt and I don't even want to have friends. I realized so many were not friends even though I try to treat people nice because that is who I am and want to be treated same way. But I am thankful to God for opening my eyes.
