In England especially in the past e.g. the 70s & 80s. The white people were so anti Black in every sense. That most African and Caribbeans kept their culture to themselves. Rather than being ridiculed and thought of as inferior. Living in a culture where you are hated because of your skin colour and your plight is ignored takes it toll on your psyche.

This is my observation of some African content creators, especially, those from western backgrounds. 1. They complain about racism in the West and all the barriers they face. 2. They return to Ghana, they are honest about challenges and opportunities in Ghana. 3. They engage with Ghanaians on the streets to make content. Sometimes it’s obvious the people they show case are not comfortable, but knowing how welcoming Ghanaians are they go along. 4. They create positive imagery of Ghana and we begin to love and support them. 5. Bam!!! They start bringing other returnees and start exhibiting ‘foreign complex’. How different they are from the dominant society, how they don’t know how to speak the language, the food, etc. My question is when you or your parents migrated didn’t they try to assimilate by learning the language and culture? How different is it when you are coming back to an African culture you are not familiar with - don’t you try to learn with humility like the way you and your parents did with Western cultures? My take is, if you are really proud of your heritage you will show cultural humility by trying to learn. Even Westerners, especially the volunteers learn the language and culture and try to be normal, the only thing that gives them away is the colour of their skin and accent. How much more black returnees. Indigenes already face multiply barriers, they don’t need returnees complexes to add to it. Let be humble in our approach and learn from each other and be respectful of our people and culture. Genuinely!!!

Just because you wouldn't behave like that doesn't mean we all have to be like you. We all have different background/etiquettes. Not everyone like the same food, being cultural or traditional. I watched the video, she wasn't disrespectful but definitely fussy about the food she didn't like. But she still tried it. She doesn't have to like everything vice versa to everybody on earth. its not that deep, its food. You like it or you don't, moving on. No reason to start unnecessary banter about food.

I think we all have to be conscious of the language we use because it has repercussions and was one of the subtle things imperialists & colonialists used to erode our identity & ultimately our unity The Ewe are not a tribe but an ethnic group. Ewe states were highly organised and sophisticated structures. The Ewe number around 3 million and span 3 West African countries. Within the Ewe are subgroups such as the Anloga etc. Secondly Africans were enslaved and not slaves it might seem trivial but the latter suggests that one was created to be in servitude rather than subjected to it. The Jamaican coat of arms has the saying out of many one people, no doubt this is true and demonstrated by the various words introduced from the Africans brought over as well as words from the virtually wiped out Tainos? and other people that came to Jamaica.

This collaboration did not work for me. Was this set up to embarrass Dela because she names her channel ""Natural Ghana Girl"? Jasmine promised something "different", "non-conventional " food that someone might ask "what is this?". Then she deliberately proceeded to order entrees with every kind of food combined into the dishes. Dela was not comfortable and opened herself up to insults from the viewers. Dela's palate (taste buds)is not used to this "non-conventional" Ghanaian food. I would advise anyone to take small steps and gradually add different foods as one develops a taste for any cuisine. The green soup reminds me of the Jamaican and Caribbean "Pepper Pot Soup". It consists of carrots, yam, potatoes dumplings etc boiled with coconut milk and greens (kale, callaloo etc) blended to give the green color. It can be vegetarian or meat can be added. Caribbean cooks usually put meat or fish in soups, not both. The Sorrel drink is a Jamaican favorite.

I’ve been to the UK several times, I know the struggle there, so don’t come to Ghana, acting all high and mighty because of your stupid accent. It’s unfortunately that most Ghanaian people are gullible and thinks she’s knowledgeable about something. She’s clueless!. She should go to her parents village and fix it first, since she hates where her people comes from so much. Plan nonsense

To be fair, f u r not used to snails, then they can be a bit difficult to eat. Like Dela, I do not really like fish much as I cant stand the bones, but I adore octopus and squid. But the actual soup looks and tastes delicious; so healthy, filled with iron and vitamin A. Guinea fowl is one of my best white meats, so tasty. I think Dela was put in an awkward position. I hope that 🇬🇭 Ghana is not a monolith but is opened to new people and ideas. Some comment that their parents cook Ghanaian food in Europe and the USA. Guess what? Your Moms introduced "diversity in food" to those places. I would prefer if Jasmine had invited Dela to her home, cooked a meal and invited her to dine. When I migrated to the 🇺🇸 USA, I ate only 🇯🇲 Jamaican food. My hostess soon informed me that "eating ethnic food was expensive" due to high importation costs. Watching the cooking channels on TV opened my eyes to see, "it's potato, the difference is in the sauce". I was then willing to try some new things. However, I do not eat chicken whether prepared the JA or any other way. Is the guinea fowl also called Cornish hen? I am salivating on the Sorrel drink. It is a Jamaican favorite.

@@JasmineAmaa I'm sorry dear you wouldn't find African Americans calling gumbo weird, nor Asians calling Sushi weird though it may be "weird" to a foreigner. As Ghanaians(Africans) we should package and promote ourselves on a more positive and welcoming note. Those who've lived with real foreigners abroad know the face and expression foreigners give when they associate the word "weird" to food. It's usually not good and would most likely not try it. African foods are not patronized enough outside of Africa, so to see an African using such a word like "weird" is discouraging for other cultures to even try.
