Caroll Spinney also sounds a lot like a more mellow and quiet Oscar, and Frank Oz's natural voice is basically a much deeper Bert (also like a less-dramatic Sam the Eagle), and Jerry Nelson sounds so much like Floyd Pepper.

Dick Cavett is an exceptionally intelligent person, so I'm surprised he didn't realize that the monitors they watch during their performance would be showing the image in real time with only the teeniest bit of delay (like thousandths of a second or less). Or maybe he was being snide. Dick has been known to do that.

Counterintuitively, for me anyways, the great puppeteers all seem to be introverts yet do so well with interacting with other people while puppeteering, especially children.

But Frank does do Grover, not just his voice. He performs him. Because he makes him come to life, Grover is a puppet.
