Ahsoka just introduced a new idea - that there are more Galaxies, some of which will be very relevant to future stories. We'll talk all that and more on today's Star Wars video!

When i saw the eye of sauron, my immediate thought was that it is a giant hyperspace ring. Perhaps once they find him, they will attach the chimera to the eye of sauron and bring it back to the star wars galaxy

I thought the something because the grand admiral's ISD Hyper drive was so damaged that the ISD's crew couldn't repair without a shipyard and the drive for an ISD is so deep in the hull you would have to ether cut into it to install a new one or replays the pasts that are too big for the doors. And if anyone think I don't know what I'm tucking about. It's the Galactic Empire. the ISD may be a strong warship but the Empire dose the quick and easy path all the time.

@@Sephiroth144 I definitely took the purgles being on the map as, they consistently travel this route between galaxies, and its how the ancient species from another galaxy discovered the route in the first place. They followed the purgles, curious where the hell they were going. So it leads to Thrawn because Ezra used the force to go as far as he could, with Purgles. As for the puzzles and the hidden knowledge -- Night Sister magic is unique to them, extremely so, so it stands to reason they could be an offshoot / descendant / learned from whoever came from the other galaxy. They had knowledge of the route back to the other galaxy, of which they obviously did NOT want others to know, so, hide it in a hard to find, hard to decipher way.

It seems like they’re meant to be following a path the Purgill use to migrate around. If the Purgill have been around a lot longer than any known civilizations, they’ve had ample time to figure out safe passageways to migrate through. If I’m not mistaken, early hyperspace travel was developed after studying the Purgill, so the idea of following in their footsteps isn’t new in the SW universe.
@timothymcdonough7609

are there many canon references to the Purgils outside of Rebels (and now Ahsoka)? I've read a decent amount of the High Republic series which deals a lot with establishing hyperspace routes to the Outer Rim, and even has some hyperspace tech that the villains use which is different than traditional hyperdrives (they refer to it as The Ways and it's described to even appear differently than the blue mist of typical hyperspace). It allows the villains to land surprise and sneak attacks that would otherwise be impossible with traditional hyperspace tech. Long way to say, I'm not aware of any earlier references to hyperspace tech, but the Purgils are never mentioned in High Republic.

Interesting take on the Purgill and there may ultimately be truth to it. But in the High Republic, many of the established hyperspace lanes in later SW were originally mapped by the Nihil using a very old hyperspace explorer essentially being held hostage (Mari San Tekka, an ancestor of Max von Syndow's charcter Lors from Episode 7).

@@timothymcdonough7609 While you're correct, I don't think any of that is necessarily contradictory. Some early hyperdrives could easily have been inspired by them, with the inspiration then simply being forgotten or reduced to obscure myths and legends. I was under the impression that Hyperspace travel works totally differently in the new canon than in the old, that gravity wells in the old canon (Legends/Expanded Universe) impeded hyperspace travel and that was why hyperspace routes were used and why mapping was so necessary (thus, groups like the Hapes Consortium could be relatively closed off from the rest of the Galaxy despite being in the middle of the Empire or Han Solo's boast about doing the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs being evidence of his skills as a navigator in a region where denser gravities prevented a more direct route) but that hyperspace anomalies were largely an issue outside the galactic disk with only a couple viable routes to extragalactic clusters such as the Rishi Maze). Given how the othe galaxy had images depicting purgill surrounding it, it leads me to believe that the purgill are one of the canon reasons travel outside the known galaxy isn't done more often. The lore on those creatures says that they disrupt hyperspace lanes, ao maybe them encircling anotber galaxy explains a few things. Perhaps that's another reason that ship being built for the journey is also so big, to allow the purgill to fly through it once dropping out of hyperspace before making 1 last jump into the new galaxy

They only disrupt hyperspace because they're living creatures wandering around in hyperspace and you can randomly fly into one. My initial thought was that it was some sort of star gate type device, but I think I have a better idea... they take the ring into hyperspace and fly it into the galctic barrier, where the force eddies, or whatever energy is there, binds it in place, but also creates a vortex within it, essentially slingshotting a ship into the next galaxy, and holding the barrier open for e return trip. This would allow our heroes and villains to both exit, and return, at will, on their own ships. It also explains the bright spot on the starmap, being the location that the ring is "anchored".

To your point about space being fairly empty, there's a line from either The Essential Atlas or The Essential Guide to Warfare (can't remember which off the top of my head) that points out that while space is indeed mostly empty, it's not THAT empty, and at FTL speeds it gets very crowded very quickly. Basically, travel for long enough along a straight line and you WILL hit something eventually. At the speeds hyperdrives operate at - where you might be travelling at literally millions of times the speed of light - this eventual statistical certainty becomes an imminent danger to your ship, unless you are on a well-charted route with the major hazards removed or accounted for.

I think likely they’ll tie this into that premise and incorporate the force sensitives (baylan, shin, marrok) If the purgill can reach the other galaxy it seems like they’ll need intuitive guidance from force sensitives for sure. I agree with the idea that the eye of scion is circular and large like that in order to be able to potentially bring back the chimera as well. I mostly like how the new canon is handling hyperspace and adapting some of the Legends material. For one, it seems like the Force has a much deeper connection to hyperspace than I ever saw in Legends. Also, the idea that certain creatures (like the purgil and the lothwolves) have biological hyperdrives that are probably deeply connected to the Force is really cool. People complain that things like the midiclorians lessen the mystery of the Force (and the way that it was used in TPM, I kinda agree), but all of this Force-Hyperspace connection just deepens that mystery IMO. It seems that Ezra and Thrawn being taken to another galaxy by the purgil is new canon's version of the Outbound Flight, or something similar to that, and I think that's a really interesting way to approach that particular part of Thrawn's story from Legends. We'll have to see how it pans out before I have a final verdict on whether it's better than the Legends versoin of events or not, but it seems to be off to a good start.

Another thing about hyperspace I found interesting (not sure if it's only Legends now), but if I remember correctly, doing ".5 past the speed of light" just meant 1.5x the speed of light, but going through a different level of space meant that it moved ships way faster than that. That would explain how they can get across the galaxy in such a short time compared to like in Star Trek. I compare it to running on regular path vs. walking fast on a moving sidewalk, or something like that.

The Star Wars saga doesn't necessarily take place in our universe. "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." is basically another way of saying "Once upon a time in a far away land." It's only meant as an indication that we're watching a fairytale. Aside from that, a galaxy far far away could be a galaxy that exists in an adjacent universe where the laws of physics are different, hence sound in space, the Force, lightsabers, hyperspace, Mustafar being habitable etc.

I think it could be for another few of reasons. I think maybe it is based on the alien technology and they make everything bigger or to make it a mobile jump point that opens the lane or you could fit a few ships in that big space to jump with you if only your ship can make the jump.

The best theory is that the map was created by the ancient intergalactic race to track both their own path from their home galaxy ("Peridea") and the migration routes of the purrgil (which connects the Purrgil to this ancient race). As to how Morgan would know of this map well clearly the ancient race is tied to Nightsisters (possibly explaining their Magik and knowledge of them in fact they might even be their ancestors). As to how Morgan would know Thrawn is in that galaxy well clearly she knows Purrgil took him away so she decides to use that map (also apparently she is in contact with him so he could've told her).

It’s possible that these are satellite galaxies like the Rishi Maze or Firefist which is already part of Star Wars lore. This could even perhaps be the Yuuzhan Vong galaxy which would be a cool attempt to canonize the concept and perhaps a very good plot twist where Thrawn is anticipated to be the antagonist to bring a new war when it’s actually the Vongs from the distant Galaxy that does!

Perhaps this path is in a way similar to the same hyperspace phenomenon that Hypergates take advantage of. They are said to utilize rifts in hyperspace to travel between two points instantaneously. Presumably Artificial Hypergates such as those built by the Gree open and close artificial rifts. Perhaps this is a less potent naturally occuring one that allows hyperspace travel at a far more rapid rate than normal along it's vector.

It's actually easier to think of a Hypsespace lane like a train tunnel. Established routes are like train routes. Some are faster and shorter and some are longer and slower. Your ship is the engine and essentially provides the 'speed' through the tunnel. After you go extra galactic, you are asking a ship that is designed to travel through these tunnels to essentially dig it's own tunnel and travel. Nearly all the ships can't do this. Hyperspace travel in the Star Wars universe is 25,000 some odd years old. In many of the novels and games it is stated that some secrets of Hyperspace have been lost. I'd bet the ability to 'dig' the tunnels is predominantly what was lost. The ancient Sith would have seen to that. Can't have your slaves wandering too far away. This leads me to the hyperspace whales. They swim through hyperspace and navigate it freely. So it stands to reason that they have migrated to other oceans (galaxies) in order to find food (recources that other setient species aren't mining). Ezra and Thrawn were dragged into Hyperspace by the whales, effectively marooning them in another galaxy where there are no tunnels and no way to dig new ones. Somewhere along the way, someone likely Thrawn's staff found the tunnel the whales made. So the question is, how do you get an enormous sized ship through a whale sized tunnel without damaging it further? We shall see.
@pinecone206

Yo could very well be wrong about this, but I understood that hyperspace lanes were part of the inherent fabric of the galaxy - something to be discovered and mapped that faciitated hyperspace travel, not merely a designated 'route'.

So I normally describe FTL in Star Wars as a subway system yes it’s not 100% accurate but it’s close also I remember hearing that the more a hyperspace route is used to safer it becomes? I can’t remember were I heard that, you can just decide to head off in any direction but the chance of you making it there in one peace is highly unlikely. The idea of a route becoming safer the more it’s used also makes sense as to why this path exists and is stable in the first place, if the pergil (I’ve no idea how you spell it I’m just guessing) make regular migrations between the two galaxies they will be helping to keep the hyperspace lane free and clear, making it safer with each animal that “”swims”” along that path. An I also say just how terrifying the idea of a giant space whale is! Think about it in there are space whales what else is swimming around in the voids of space we some that something in Solo but are their massive space sharks or jellyfish?
