Did buying open cows pay off or backfire?

Its the same challenge in Australia, when buying heifers, they need to be cheap, i think cows in calf that are preg tested again probably are the best value even though dearer. You can also aell the cow when calf weaned if you decide no good, still a saleable item imo. Pasture is looking good!!
