For me he didn’t do this with the purpose to “invent “ beatboxing: he was simply the goat, he was the man, the real artist living for music, the same music that he felt flowing in his veins since he was a kid. He could hear every single sound of the instruments on stage or even in studio and reproduce with his blessed voice. The man loved what he was doing, and he could do it all.

David Elvis did have his own little jive Talkin. Yeah Elvis was a trendsetter.. sometimes he even didn't know that he was setting trends. even some of his songs were turned into rap songs

It is hard to describe. It just came out of him naturally too! Pretty cool sounding the way he did that!

I love that 8-11-70 version of Polk Salad. Elvis originated so much in music by mixing sounds of delta blues, gospel hyms and choirs, country twang and jazzy horns to create his own unique sound and style. He never gets the proper credit for doing that. Also keep in mind that MJ attended Elvis's show on May 25, 1974 and Elvis did that ad libbing chone chone sound to the end of Hound Dog that is similar to what MJ would do years later when he would say "jamone". 🤔

It's just scat singing or similar, no? Beatboxers are setting a rhythm. Elvis is doing this to a rhythm.

It's not a beatbox at all. It's more like scatting. Which Elvis would have gotten from his love of the blues and bluesmen like Muddy Waters etc, because that's where it comes from. Elvis DID NOT invent it.

I saw that when I was a kid that very same concert I'm 57 years old now and we were sitting around in our living room and we saw that anyway everybody was just shocked. I remember my family jaw dropping facial expression, just everything stopped, and they were just shocked, like wow, that is so cool and Elvis Presley is doing it...You know, what I mean... So, yeah I think that was very original. EP was just so rhythmic. But, Elvis is from the south so he probably heard that somewhere and you know it's a multicultural/shared culture kinda thing... Yet, I've not heard that kinda music play anywhere other than in the black community, but of course, way back in the day it was a little different you know... But things and music evolves, so nowadays it's done differently but yeah, but still, I think that was definitely the beginning and a form of beatboxing for sure. It's a multicultural thing. 🙂👍🏽💕

I think it's his way of keeping rhythm and time throughout the song he's singing. Like a filler. He knew every aspect of his songs and perfected them. This was how he felt his way through his songs, in his head

- - - - - invented, perhaps stumbled upon it on his own, but more succinctly, elvis in his own words 'just did what he felt.' What you are seeing from Elvis in your samples are extemporaneous , uninhibited & natural ability. Like the bunch of genres he easily covered, he could have gone in any direction with things like this beat box, scatting, or the country versions of these things which may not have labels. Truly gifted individual.

Hi David yes , I remember when Elvis did that in some of his performances it was cool added to his songs so he wasn’t always singing words I think he did that so he could add time to his songs without singing and repeating so much but it was kinda cool also Michael Jackson and I can’t think of them but a few other celebrity singers did that Too Thanks for pointing this out about ElvisTCB⚡️

Elvis was very creative, he added his flair to songs, and I believe that he was using a Jazz technique called scat singing... Just my thought but then again, we are talking about Elvis so it is possible that he came up with a new technique without realizing it while doing his own thing... As always love your posts and videos as well as your thoughts and very informed commentary.
