As a Croat I can say that our people said "Well if we don't win atleast we got this far..." - that's how we think. But it was so satisfying to see them win against England JUST because of that trash talk and the way your people takled about ours. We have good people in every sport and we are proud of them even if they don't win, we love them because they give joy to us. You underastemated not just our players but our country and the number of Croatian people. It's a shame that such a "big" country has such a small character.

jeff kennedy i agree, I commented another video not to overrate them because they are the first team ever to never lead in regulation at any point in any round of the playoffs and be playing the finals. I get that. But to ignore their ability to compete against top talent and succeed is annoying from these analysts. They were down within 5 minutes of a match twice in these playoffs. Somehow they come back from that is insane. 2 games not allowing a goal for over 100 straight minutes is insane, 3 straight going 85 min scoreless against. They have played 90 extra time minutes... that isn't a game extra, but an extremely tight and stressful extra game to play. Constantly hear they are too tired but clearly England was worn out before Croatia was. I'm not asking all 4 of them to pick Croatia, I'm asking for 1 of these guys to act like they have a legit chance. 3 wins over +100 odds.

Problem is, there may not be much more to be known. Winning by PKs is pure luck, unless you practice it diligently like England apparently did. Either way, it means you didn't outplay your opponent. In best-of-one playoffs like the World Cup, unpredictable factors play a role and many times the winner is just random. Croatia could have lost to Denmark, and no one here would argue that "Croatia should have reached the finals". So give people a break when they didn't predict it, it's unpredictable to a large extent.

I disagree with the Croats - they were not underestimated. That's just an old trick the coach uses to spark them up. Modric Rakatic, Mandzukic and the others are all famous world class players - perennial Champions League finalists and winners. But the England team? Think about how Croatia played against Argentina. They won not becuase Argentina was weak (they were somehow), but the croatians did not give them ANY chance. Even after they lead by one and two goals, they simply did not let the argentinians to attack. It was briliant, the single way a smaller team can beat the ”big beasts”. Do not forget these croatians were as children in the middle or almost in the middle of a civil war. They are not afraid of their shadow or anybody elses shadow. Go Croatia. Making victory seem inevitable was the common theme of British punditry and it is not good for a young inexperienced group of players. assuming the players were exposed to what the media was saying, it’s likely that all those dismissive pundit comments about Croatia went to the players heads. They scored the first goal, got complacent because they assumed Croatia would get “tired”, and went into disorganized panic mode when things started to vear off script. Regardless of whether southgate took Croatia seriously or not, there is no way the punditry, and the medias whole narrative of inevitable success didn’t have at least some influence on the players.
