Thanks for a fine interview. Abp. Alexander's work on Dionysius was revolutionary for me, as I believe it has been also for others. I'm glad to see some of his key insights being shared here.

Of course Fr Meyendorf was wrong …. His theory that St Gregory Palamas applied ‘Christological correctives’ to St Dionysios is a little nutty

Origen is still not a saint.

Keep reminding him you guys maybe one day he’ll realize that ecumenical councils have greater authority than he does

True, he is the teacher of the saints.

@OrthodoxReview And you’re still not clever for harping on this.

@@travisa2455 Yup. St. Gregory the Theologian called him “the whetstone of us all.” Should we throw away his theological orations?

@@fr.davidwooten1650 St. Gregory was incorrect. Individual saints are wrong sometimes. St. Peter was wrong. He’s still a saint. He was corrected in the Council of Jerusalem by his fellow apostles who were saints too. The Church and her numerous holy saints after Origen and even his contemporaries Basil, considered to be of even greater wisdom than Gregory, and Chrysostom, condemned the teaching that eternal torment is actually not eternal. And the saints after them until the recent past have condemned Origen’s teachings as heretical and him as a heretic and *none* of them after his anathematization have said a good thing about him. They all also affirmed the perfection and inerrancy of the seven ecumenical councils in their teaching. What authority do you have against a holy ecumenical council? Do you think your wisdom is greater than the Holy Spirit’s, who works through those councils? Are you and Origen, who St. John Moschus records as being in a “dark and stinking place throwing up flames of fire,” and who Gregory the disciple of St. Basil the New saw God saying to Origen as he burned “depart from me, you accursed, to eternal torment,” of greater authority than St. Paisios who says that whoever says the torments are not eternal are deceived by Satan? That false doctrine is repeatedly refuted and condemned and called a deception from Satan by the following saints(taken from the video from Orthodox Wisdom who compiled this list). And yes, all of them are saints: St. Ignatius of Antioch, Justin Martyr, Theophilos of Antioch, Irenaeus, Hippolytus, Cyprian of Carthage, Cyril of Jerusalem. The following explicitly condemn the teaching of a temporary punishment in the afterlife: Basil the Great, John Chrysostom, Epiphanios of Cyprus, Jerome of Stridonium, Augustine, Theodore the Studite, Niketas Stethatos, Theophylact of Bulgaria, Symeon of Thessaloniki, Elias Miniatis, Ignatius Brianchaninov, Theophan the Recluse, Cyriacus the Solitary, John Moschus, John of Damascus, Amphilochios of Iconium, Ephraim the Syrian, Sophronius of Jerusalem and St. Paisios. Those that specifically call Origen a heretic or one deceived by Satan are: St. Epiphanios of Cyprus, Jerome of Strodonium, Augustine says “the church not without reason condemned him, St. Cyriacus says Origen has “impious and godless teachings” and became a “perpetrator of all evils” and says “God Himself has shown me the filth of this heresy,” Theodore the Studite, Niketas says “Origen airs in his darkness,” Theophylact speaks of “the gibberish of Origen.” Please stop the nonsense! And do not respond to this saying “oh you think you’re clever” or with any other deflection! Admit that Origen is a heretic, and no, he is not a teacher of the saints, yes, St. Gregory was wrong, and yes maybe we should burn Origen’s works because another SAINT, a certain Emperor Justinian commanded that exactly that should be done. Furthermore, SAINT Pachomius said “if you would agree with me and please God in all things, drown all the books of Origen in the river lest you be also drowned with them.” He also says “anyone who reads and agrees with Origen will be sent to the lowest parts of hell.” The lowest. He says God told him these things. THEY are saints and Origen is NOT. Stop the prattle and condemn Origen already!
