Roman Catholic here. I've become disillusioned with how fractured the church is with beliefs between each archdiosese, the homilies being so watered down into a modern feel good message, many strict traditions that I havent seen since my late teens, not to mention how soft the standards have become for the congregation to follow. I'm becoming more conviced that the Orthodox Church is the best path for me to regain faith and live a more Godly life. Any former catholics here that have converted?

I'm currently in the process of joining the Orthodox Church (OCA - Abp. Alexander is my bishop) from a traditionalist Catholic background. One thing that immediately jumped out to me about Orthodoxy is how spiritually healthy it is! It is alive with the grace of the Holy Spirit and the fruits are right before our eyes. There are so many 20th & 21st century saints that it's almost overwhelming trying to soak in their wisdom. I would highly recommend attending a Divine Liturgy!

I am currently Roman Catholic. I am seeking a deeper personal commitment to God and a closer relationship with Him found only in Christian Orthodoxy (There exists only one Mount Athos), whose priesthood is not infiltrated with Freemasons and a homosexual network of priests, as exists in the RCC.

Dave, I am former Roman Catholic who’s been inquiring for months. You should read Two Paths by Michael Whelton. The book examines Orthodoxy and Roman Catholicism, side by side. I think it will help. Also read Beginning To Pray by Anthony Bloom. God bless 🙏❤️

@@stephenbrowning297 I'm going to be square with you Stephen: Orthodoxy, especially in America, once had ( and indeed may still have) a freemason problem. In my personal experience, I've seen the fingerprints of masonry upon the Greek Archdiocese. For example, within a Greek Orthodox church I visited, they have plaques celebrating the founders of their church from the early 20th century, and happily mention in their biographies that said founders were masons of various degrees. They wrote it as if it were normal, as though they were saying something so mundane as "he was a businessman" rather than admitting that their very founders were members of a syncretic cult in opposition to the singular worship of the Holy Trinity. So, if you do become an Orthodox Christian, you have two options: Stay away from the Greek Archdiocese, OR be willing to work and change its culture for the better.

Excellent interview. I heard a quote some years ago from The Book of Steps, but had a very hard time finding much info on it. I'm not sure of it's status in OC circles, but it remained with me and has come up again recently in the new book on the life of Fr. Roman Braga, "Journey to Simplicity" and now in this talk. The quote I encountered: "In the case of the church in heaven, all that is good takes its beginning from there, and from there light has shone out upon us in all directions. After its likeness the church on earth came into being, along with its priests and its altar; and according to the pattern of its ministry the body ministers outwardly, while the heart acts as priest inwardly. ... Our bodies become temples, and our hearts become altars."

Archibishop Alexander claims the Jesus prayer comes from a coptic source in the 8th or 9th century. Would someone be able to elaborate further? The Jesus prayer comes from the Desert fathers of the 3rd and 4th century. St. John Chrysostym wrote about the prayer. Many other ancient saints talk about the prayer. What is his eminence talking about? Is this just ecumenist falsehood?

You mean a parish of the OCA (Orthodox Church in America), I’m guessing, whose priest seemed ‘old school’. The OCA perhaps has more socially conservative clergy and parishioners than the Greek Americans and others who populate the GOA. But the bishops of the OCA, like Abp. Alexander here, are not easily categorized, except that they uphold the Tradition of Orthodoxy. How do you specifically mean ‘old school’? As compared to what?

@@JosephSaad13 Americanized is not what I’d call a foreign-headed jurisdiction. The OCA is the Local Autocephalous Church with American bishops. Most Greek bishops and their head are not even American and the GOA will never be American like the OCA.

@Desertfox21 You yourself are making a KZbin comment. Would you like proof? He is a Archbishop in the OCA who has betrayed the Faith. It’s a good thing we have Saints telling us the same thing. But, go ahead and continue listening to a man who considers the heretic Origen a Saint and many more heretical beliefs. “Do you know the Life of St. Maximus the Confessor? All the Orthodox Patriarchs accepted the Monothelite heresy, and he was begged, for the sake of peace and harmony in the Church, to do what everyone else was doing and keep his opinions to himself. And he said: “Even if the whole world enter into communion with the (heretical) Patriarch of Constantinople), I alone will not.” That is the kind of Orthodox confession that has preserved the Church for 2000 years; that is the faith that St. Herman lived; that is what we must follow today. Indeed, we have the example of St. Peter the Aleut who died for refusing to accept Roman Catholicism, which, according to our modern ecumenists, is very little different from Orthodoxy. And we are gladly willing to suffer torture and martyrdom for this faith, but we will never recognize either the Patriarchate or the Metropolia, which have betrayed this faith.”- Hieromonk Seraphim (Rose) of Platina: (Letter 061. August 30/Sept. 12, 1970)

Abp Golitzin, if you'll allow for the analogue, is a religious genius. Few in Orthodoxy - both in the past and today, have, with so much didactic clarity, bridged both Testaments of the Bible in so uncompromisingly an Orthodox way. The man, in short, is an 'original' after the model of the Fathers.
