I bought the SEL version of this vehicle a year ago and I loved it when I bought it and I love it more now. It has been a fuel miser and seems agile on the road. I tried it out with snow and ice with factory all season radials in South Dakota and it held the road well. I am switching my tires this winter to a snow and ice tire because I prefer them in winter. The snow mode really helps the vehicle hold the road in rough winter weather. The sport mode is great for dealing with city congestion and faster acceleration. If I need a little more speed, I use the sport mode and switch to get to speed and then switch to the normal mode for better fuel economy on the interstate. I have been satisfied with my car. I love the fuel economy and a smaller SUV. It is great in the parking lot and has a small foot print. The 17 inch wheels give it great clearance on minimum maintenance roads or gravel roads with ruts in them. I feel very confident and safe in it on the highway. Our interstate speeds are 80 mph and it handles that without any issues. Good things come in small packages.

I just got myself a Venue today in the Acid Yellow, Ultimate trim (top trim in Canada) Shares the same chassis & powertrain as the Accent, kind of like a "lifted" Accent. I actually had a Accent as a loaner car while my new Venue was being prepped for Delivery to me

Look, I just recently purchased the 2021 base model venue (grey) and I LOVE IT. MPG is more like 40 in city and 43 highway, Crazy. I fill up on $23-$28 only once every 10 days or so. I’m single with no kids, I recommend this car to someone like me. Not big. Also, my 0 to 60 doesn’t take anywhere near 12 seconds, more like 6. Floor it! My only issue is in my model there’s no arm rest or push to start but nothing that bothers me on a day to day basis.

Thanks for the review, we have a 2008 Accent which is surprisingly very good in the snow. Come to find out it has a form of posi traction for the front wheel drive. Do you possibly know if the venue has this? (I know you won't do the roller test) Thanks for the disclaimer too!. :)

I think I would like it. I've had two Toyotas Yaris hatchbacks and I feel they are kind of similar. They are great economy cars that have a lot to offer for a small package. There is a certain "IT" factor to them. They do everything you need them to do as a DD while not costing as much as a small mortgage.

AWD is overrated. I say this living in NW Ontario, north of Minnesota where six months of my year are winter driving. LOL This one has been on my radar since they announced it. Haven't had a chance to drive one yet though. Personally, I'd love to try it with the 6 speed stick ... but good luck finding one on a lot anywhere! Maybe in Quebec? They still love their sticks there. I'm thinking this one would fall under "the most fun you can have going slow" ... an underrated category of vehicles. Enjoyed the review!

I hear you, I'm Canadian as well. I completely agree that you don't need AWD, just good snow tires. The ground clearance is nice to have on the Venue, looks like a great commuter. I'm using a 2012 Accent hatch right now as a winter beater, and I have my eye on one of these as a replacement in a few years.

@@theadvocate4698 Oh wow, even Yaris is gone. My mother in law just got a Yaris Hatch (a re-badged Mazda 2, basically). That didn't take long for Toyota to ditch that... I figured it would be around for at least a few more years. It's pretty sad, small cars like this are all most people would realistically need. :(

My dad drives a 2014 versa note. It’s spacious and good on gas, and has satellite radio, but that’s where the praise ends. Cars like the venue provide a good option for him, he travels a lot as a lawyer and has an old X5 for the winter. Could fit a ton of files and dogs in the back, and it’s not a penalty box like the Nissan.

You have the smartstream 1.6 engine and CVT..in Australia we have the older Gamma 1.6 engine with a six speed auto. I wonder why the difference between markets.

Or better make a venue turbo with a 201 hp 1.6 turbo. A venue turbo would be for a person who want a Veloster turbo but wishes there is some sort of subcompact crossover version of it.

Bought a new 2020 SE with the 6-spd manual. 46+ mpg! Not a highway cruiser but excellent on country roads. 8" info screen, nice interior. Hyundai skimped in areas that are not particularly important. This car is well designed.

This might take the vacuum the Golf’s departure has left. Now I know it’s not as well put together or fun to drive as the Golf, but it’s cheaper and more reliable. Is it a solid tiny family hatch with room for 4 and cargo? Looks like it!

Venue is one of the highest selling sub-compact Suvs here in India. Soon, Kia is also going to bring the Sonet which is based on the same platform.

Really really love these things, but the power plant and interior is deterring. The punchy 1.6t and a two tone interior would make huge difference here. Its a great price/value, but not compelling enough to move me from my HRV. 😁

You guys did the GPS wrong you just have to press the button once and let go. If you hold the button you will get the message you guys got about phone connectivity. The GPS as shown on the screen will work without phone connection.

I would give it a “ forget it” because it does not have blind spot detection as standard equip. It is more useful than lane keep assist. I would have to spend at least 23k$. For that price, I could have had a used 2020 Mazda CX-30 and save around 2k$. Hyundai should include blind spot detection as standard for 2022 and I would have no hesitation buying one for $18k$.

Australia gets the venue with a traditional 6 speed auto. Why they would put a cvt in the US version I have no idea. Fuel saving with the cvt would be minimal.

One thing I'm curious about is if the engine in this is GDI or not. I like Hyundai and Kia, but (since reliability is very important to me) I wouldn't buy any vehicle that had only direct injection. The carbon build-up problem that plagues all DI engines is real and serious. Yet, I think this new Hyundai engine has port injection though. Is that true? Additionally, despite being only FWD, the Venue has a "snow" mode, right? Is it useful at all or merely marketing hype?

I'm late to the party, but you are correct! The engine is port injected, and the CVT was very likely paired with it to offset the fuel economy loss of going back to port injection. I will say this though, I use a soon to be 9 year old Hyundai Accent strictly for commuting / my winter beater and it's direct injected. No carbon issues yet. Snow mode looks like it's a real thing - saw a video of one where one tire was on rollers. The car was able to send the power to the other wheel and get going. On a regular FWD, you're not moving in that scenario. In any case though, even with FWD and no snow mode, you'd be fine in the winter with good snow tires.

I really do like the styling outside and in. I think Hyundai did a fantastic job. Where the Kona is trying too hard to be stylish, the Venue looks handsome. I much prefer the boxier SUV shape, even though this is simply a replacement for the Accent hatchback and is based on the Accent. Considering its roots, I do not understand the $2k-$3k price hike over the Accent. That's highway robbery.

It's not really that much of a price hike, considering the equipment level. The base trim Venue is about the same price as an Accent that is the next trim up from the base, and is similarly equipped.

When I first saw this car I thought Hyundai had skimped out on design to keep the price down. It reminds me too much of a box on wheels especially compared to Nissan's Kicks which looks stylish in comparison. With Hyundai having reliability on par with Lexus I think it would be the safer bet over the Kicks & it's mediocre 3 year warranty.

While the majority of small SUVs/CUVs offer AWD, 48% of them sold in the US were front wheel drive versions. (2014 numbers, the most recent I could find but I doubt it's changed much).

You guys are so strict about what to call things. On here you’ve called it a “car”. On Hyundai’s website it’s is listed as a SUV. To be an SUV, does it need to be body on frame, solid axle, or is it opinion based? Is it a car due to its unibody construction or the FWD drivetrain? I think you guys did a video a few years ago about it. This is a good subject I’d love to hear your opinions on. Your videos are awesome these days. Really enjoy.
