I just checked one of these out at a car show. I'm 6' tall and had no problem sitting in the back seat behind myself. Cabin is solid and no-nonsense. Cargo room is reasonable for a vehicle this size. Engine is a new design, no turbo, dual-injection so carbon fouling of intake valves won't be an issue. Everything easy to work on in the engine compartment. Plus, you can get it with a manual transmission which should help engine performance greatly. Honestly, it's the perfect no-nonsense car for somebody not looking to spend much but wanting to keep their car for 10 years.

For good reason. I hate that CUVs are replacing sedans, BUT the Soul is a damn good little car. 90% the fuel economy of a Forte sedan (brick aerodynamics at speed hurt it a bit), snappy acceleration with the top engines, lots of room inside, and stupid easy to park and maneuver around the city. And to top it off they're reliable as all hell AND pack a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty and they're about the cheapest thing you can buy.
@justinluttrell17694 жыл бұрын
It makes what like 137hp in the new Soul? Considering it's a sub 2,800# vehicle, the power to weight ratio's not horrible. Basically the same as a Forte or Elantra. If that's not enough there's a LOT of cars on the road with worse ratios than that (Fit, Versa, Versa Note, Yaris, Corolla, Accent, Rio, etc).

Very nice review sir. I don't agree with you on all issues though: room. I think this Venue is for singles or elderlies like me (65) that have no children and will never install baby seats and don't shop 12 packs of 50 hygiene rolls at Costco or move their trash bins with their vehicle. And this Venue is also right for those who stay in town and don't leave it. I've started shopping for replacing my 2012 Rio with 70,000 km. But I think I will have much trouble finding a car that suits my needs. The 6 speed auto in the Rio takes full advantage of the 138 HP of the "old" GDI engine with surprising quietness. I can't picture myself flooring a vehicle all the time with that constant roaring. Actually I see myself in this Venue. Perfect size for me. Don't care that much for the plastic as long as it doesn't squeaks and sings like birds. As for the road noise, my Rio is not without fault here but has no wind noise. Do you think Hyundai would give the option of an auto trans or a more powerful engine. I think that between 30 mpg and 33 on highway, the difference is minimal. We're not talking of 26-33. I see much disappointments ahead for me...

I just got back from a week long trip in Puerto Rico and ended up with one of these as a rental during my time there. I gotta say, I was so much more impressed with it than I thought i'd be. Compared to a lot of the other small, "crappy" rentals i've had in the past in other places (Chevy Sonic, VW Polo, Jeep Renegade) this seemed to be the best of the bunch. Coming from my V90 with the B&W system the audio system definitely surprised me. Bump up the treble and bass a bit and it's not half bad. The bass is still a bit muddy and you don't get much of the midtones, but overall I felt I was able to really jam along to my playlists. The rural mountain roads there are... anxiety-inducing, but it took the turns with ease aside from me having like 5hp to work with, it didn't complain too much. Visibility was good, the A-pillars are nice and thin, and the ride quality didn't seem half bad on the rougher roads I found myself on. MPG was about 31-ish mpg, which isn't terrible considering the driving conditions. My only qualm is that it's hideous. It's really just not a pretty car whatsoever... If I lived in a place with a lot of itty-bitty super winding country roads and was on a budget I would probably seriously consider this as an option next to the Mazda CX30 or a Mini.

For a single person or childless couple that rarely uses the rear, or even front, passenger seats, this will do fine. It may not have more space than any other subcompact crossover, but I don’t see it as much worse either.

I appreciate your critique of the Hyundai Venue's build quality, ride comfort, driving characteristic's, and value for the dollar, but would have been nice if you could have done a vehicle "walk around" and discussed it's standard features, what options are available, and the vehicle's price point. I understand that it's aimed at the bargain end of the market, but I would like a better idea of what's included in the price, and what it actually looks like. All you discussed were it's "bargain basement" hard plastic interior, it's basic infotainment system, it's artificial sounding CVT Transmission, and only glimpses of the exterior.

As the owner of a 2015 MK7 GTI, I'm REALLY impressed with the solidity, features, and overall quality of the Hyundai. Yes, it's hard plastic all over the interior. But it's "good" hard plastic with texture and rigidity so as not to feel cheap. I don't think my son recognizes , nor cares about the hard plastic. Aside from that, the car is quieter than my GTI, the visibility is excellent, and so is the crash protection. The dad in me prefers him in this sensible choice, rather than him ripping around in a GR86 or Veloster.

Stop comparing this to the Soul! They're not based on the same platform and they don't even compete in the same class! (Venue is classified as a Compact SUV whereas the Soul is classified as a hatchback car) The fact that they're both boxes is irrelevant, they are entirely unrelated besides the fact that they share a parent company. With that out of the way, I will now say this... At 6'3" I fit comfortably in the Venue, I do not fit at all in the Kia Soul. If you are a tall person, you'd be hard-pressed to find a nicer and better-equiped vehicle for under 20g that you can actually fit in. For that reason, I highly recommend you seriously consider the Venue (assuming you're looking for a city commuter/daily driver. Long trips with those brutally hard plastic armrests would be torture)

I test drove a Venue today. It was a nice little car for what it was. It didn't blow my mind, but I didn't walk away feeling like it was a terrible vehicle either. The interior had a nice layout, it didn't feel cheap but it didn't feel amazing. It's pretty slow. Ride felt a little bumpy, it definitely had a decent amount of road noise, but again, wasn't terrible. I test drove a 2020 Corolla before hand and I felt like the Venue was a better overall experience (I am by no means trying to say it's a better overall buy than a Corolla or that it will last longer, etc, just saying that it felt nicer and had a better interior layout) On the flip side I test drove an Elantra immediately after and quickly determined that It'd be a better overall value and buy - BUT if I was strictly looking for a small CUV, I'd considering one. It's worth looking at if you're interested.

The Kia Soul was originally a low cost alternative to an SUV. The Hyundai Venue is a low cost alternative to a Kia Soul. How low can you go?

4:35 luckily all the TP and paper towels have been bought up during this period of national hoarding so you don't have to worry about the lack of space.

More fake shifting CVTs.......... I want that sewing machine sound.

And that $4,000 repair bill at 100,001 miles when the metal on metal friction surfaces fail. Meanwhile the traditional torque converter auto is exceeding 200,000.
@TheDGeneration4 жыл бұрын
Fake shifts don't help that, you just lose the benefit of staying at peak power while accelerating.

Good grief. That’s what my 2019 gas Rav4 sounds like under acceleration and the car was almost $40k.

I am going to go with cheap. Already not a fan of these FWD only crossovers (like the Nissan Kicks and the Toyota C-HR) as they are not good in the snow. On top of that, the choice of a 1.6NA, with a CVT is pretty anemic for the powertrain. Hyundai would need to make it AWD, and offer a better engine, like a small turbo to get me interested, given that I can get the Mazda CX-3 that does not have so many of these deficits at a similar price.

Honestly, snow tires will do you a hell of a lot better in the snow.
@digitaldoc1004 жыл бұрын
@@godemperorofmankind7255 I always hear that. I live in the Northeast, and nobody here uses them, so while AWD may not be superior, due to ease of use, this is what everyone around here does.

@@digitaldoc100 Honestly mate, just swapping tires two times a year isn't that difficult. People are just too lazy to care.
@digitaldoc1004 жыл бұрын
@@godemperorofmankind7255 There is also the cost of winter tires and the storage of a set of tires. Nobody around here uses them, and many folks have an SUV.

which one would you recommend between Elantra and Venue and why? The price point is very similar for the both and I am looking at the 2024 models.

Go a step up and get the Kona. I did, the SEL has all the goodies safety wise, no GDi, No Turbo, No DCT, No CVT. around 23k. Plus, AWD has independent rear suspension not torsion beam. Not much room in the trunk but you can still put the seats down.

I think I would like this with a 6-speed manual. It's just a big hatchback really. Reminds me a little bit of my old first-generation Nissan Versa, in a way.

Fine print video idea: go over the sound system report format, each parameter and what affects it. You can use the vehicle you’ve tested as case studies. Thumbs up if folk agree. Thanks
