Did I Save $30,000 buying the Cheapest Amazon Tire Machine?

Efficiency is key. Haveing to drive a total of two hours to get new tires on our cars to resell is not good. So I bought this tire machine on Amazon. This is the XK USA (also know as the mayflower). Do you think I made a good purchase?

You can’t keep adding weights… it’s called counterbalance. But Tire will be bouncing all over the place now. If you place the way, it’s the first time, then respin it shows more weights. You have to pull the weights back off and redo it again.

Its amazing how many times you see tires counterbalanced if they would have replaced the first weight and did it correctly there is no need for counterbalancing.

Is it sometimes necessary to rotate the tire in the wheel and try again?

On this balancer there is a static and Dynamic setting. Static will place the weight in one place on the wheel and takes one spin. Dynamic will place weight on both sides of the rim in two different places. When you spin it the second time it it places a smaller amount of weight on two sides of the wheel. On the third spin it may or may not ask for weight. Yes, the wheel is full of weight, but he wheel is also perfectly balanced. I personally prefer road force balancing. These cheap balancers are better for static balancing motorcycles than cars.

For the balancing machine, you need to have one steely reserved as the “calibrated” wheel to ensure that the balancer stays calibrated and you recalibrate it to the one wheel every time. Also you should have at least three different sets of wheel weights for all the different verity of wheels out there. You should should try your best to get all the weight in one spot on both sides. If it tells you to add weight in one spot and then on the rerun add more weight in another spot. Typically if you shoot for the middle of that and add the difference between the two weights you’ll hit the sweet spot and it’ll come out 0 with just one weight on one side. Do the same for the opposite side and your in business. The downside is that you’ll have to do multiple runs and math, lol. I also recommend keeping two tire weight tools for they come in handy.

Take a tire that you know is perfectly balanced from another place and put it on to see if your machine see's it that way also.

Definitely needs a shield to cover the rotating portion. Somebody gets to close, loose clothing, God forbid hair, or trips and falls into that is serious bad news.

You can go one of 2 ways. Order all the different styles of hammer on weights in all the possible increments and buy the sticky weights for rim styles that you don't use hammer weights OR just use sticky weights for everything.

I came to embrace the sticky weights. had a cheap hammer on weight rifle itself through a fender flare one time. Luckily it was my own truck

Sticky weights are the right way to go, doesn’t damage the wheel coating that way.

Balance beads work good for most tires, saves money and time. Just place the heads inside the tire as you mount it. For the few tires that beads won't work well in using the clip on or stick on weights works.

If you havent found wheel weights yet, you can gt them at Oreilly Ayto Parts. In any weight you will need. Comes in a box. I forget how much is in each box. I used to sell them to a mom and pop tire shop in the town I live in when I worked at Oreilly.

American tire distributors. You will need 0.25-5.00 weights the smaller weights are more needed but you want those sizes. Also stick on weights for the inside of the rims on fancy rims.

@0:35... Wait, why would you EVER need to Uber? You have an entire lot filled with cars. @5:00... The Hunter stuff is expensive because when you buy it, the Hunter guy comes and sets it up, calibrates it and instructs you on how to use it. Also, they come with a great warranty. If you ever have a problem, Hunter sends out a tech to fix it. You're paying for the service. @8:17... Any time the balancer says to put weights across form each other, I usually dismount the tire, rotate it 90 degrees on the wheel and remount it.

I’ve never seen a 7 foot tall tire machine, they’re usually about 5 maybe 6. All I did in 2000 to 2004 was change tire’s working at my Uncle’s shop.

Mike, you need a shield over the tire, like I am sure your past dealer had. This keeps any weights from flying off and hitting you or someone else or a window. Also balancing a tire with rocks in the tread from fling off. That the way it is sitting is very dangerous.

A tire has a special place on where the valve stem goes and that is to help balance it better as the manufacturer allows for the stem when making the tire.

I have always been told that is what the colored dot on the tire is for. You put the dot at the valve stem. That is supposed to make the tire balance better.

For the balancer you have to use the function button to tell the machine if you are using hammer on or stick on and what type of balance other wise it’s just doing a basic static balance

Myers tire supply sells a whole rack system with every wheel weight. Also, you'll need boxes of stick on weights for wheels with no outer lip.

The one-wheel weight that you got with the machine it's a 100g that is used for calibrating the machine which is usually ideal to do when the machine is brand new and in a box I did tyre fitting for over 20 years if you balance a we'll after you have put the weight on it and it says it once more spin the wheel to see where it is if it is not at the 12:00 position and it is at the 6:00 position that means whatever amount of weight that the wheel wants is too much by whatever the balance has says so you need to subtract that amount

I was always told that if a tire way out of balance, break the bead down and rotate 1/3 time around rim! Then you don't have to add very much weight???

Great video! Might be the cheapest semi-automatic tire changer; but you can get one for cheaper, same with a balancer. It is just a lot more work, and it needs to be bolted to the floor.... XD

Not sure where you are getting prices at 20-30-40K for the high end equipment. 15-16K will get you some of the better equipment. ATD or Wurth for tire weights and supply's

If you don’t know what you doing changing tires it can be dangerous. You must have a very good tire changing machine, or you will mess up and scratch the rims up which may cost you more in the long run. Also you can get hurt if you do not know what you are doing. I can’t imagine a $2500 machine can change tires and wheels without messing them up. Wait till you mess up a set of expensive wheels with scratches and have to replace them, you will be crying the blues. Good luck buddy.

You probably think SnapOn is premium too...not anymore. Read about SnapOn vs Harbor Freight floor jack lawsuit. HF presented evidence the jacks are identical model from same manufacturer catalog...with a label. SnapOn $1200, HF $200

I got to say, I wouldn't have gone for the cheapest. It is cheap until it breaks and has to be replaced. Then a better quality one would pay for itself and then some. I assume you doing tires in bulk so it will get more wear than a home user would give it.

They're cheap but not necessarily low quality. These China models are basically identical to older Coats or Hunter models. Probably made in same factory. Many users and small shops around the country have them. 1 guy has done 1000 wheels no issues.

Don't plan on doing high performance tires with that thing... Hunter is expensive for a reason... I used to own a cheap Chinese tire machine like that and switched to hunter... never looked back. It will get you through with normal tires but you're going to scratch rims on high performance tires

Only thing with Hunter equipment is if you do buy it then start doing high end vehicles... you will recoup you're money and then some. It's hard to find a place that won't scratch rims. I have the road force elite, the TC39 tire machine and the Hawkeye Elite Alignment machine and I can work on whatever comes into my shop with 100% confidence

The tire machines are great, the balancers are JUNK, TOTAL JUNK! I invite you and everybody else that has one of these machines to balance a tire and take it off the machine and then put it back on and check the balance again, these machines will NOT show the same balance readings twice in a row. I have called Justin that sales the Mayflower machines out of California to only get excuses like that it is working properly, the last time I spoke with him he told me not to call back.
