Did Inquisitors Bleed Their Own Kyber Crystals?

Where did Imperial Inquisitors get their red lightsabers? Did they bleed their own crystals, or were the weapons given to them? Here are my thoughts.

I think that the second sister did bleed her crystal though: Cal has a psychometery vision when she grabs Trilla’s inquisitor saber on Bogano, taking him back to when she was a Jedi on the run. She wouldn’t have had the red saber then, meaning that there must’ve been a common component between her jedi and inquisitor lightsaber. This has to be her crystal. Maybe it was a case by case basis, and in turning Trilla they made her bleed her Jedi crystal.

I assume that they would have had their own crystals bled, to complete their turning to the dark side, to completely severe themselves from the Jedi Order, though it would have also meant that most of them also had to get another crystal some somewhere else as the Inquistor Sabers had 2 crystals.

​@@amalmuselmani1169 Cal can see the past of objects. Holding Trilla's inquisitor lightsaber gave cal a vision from Trilla's Padawan days. In order for that to happen, when Trilla was a Padawan, she must have had the same lightsaber crystal as she does now, as an inquisitor.

Yes. Ahsoka addressed this in her book. If the crystal wasn't bled to the user it wouldn't work as well

I think that Maul being given a red lightsaber without having to bleed the crystals himself was a subtle sign from Palpatine that he didn't consider him a real Sith. Same with Dooku and Asajj. Likewise, I think the inquisitors were simply given their lightsabers for the same reason. I think the purpose of bleeding the crystal is forcing the new apprentice Sith to *think* like a Sith. The whole process of bleeding a crystal is about embracing the power of the dark side and dominating something with a will of its own. In fact, requiring the apprentice to kill a Jedi for their crystal is likely part of it as well. Not only is it a test to see if you *can* kill a jedi, but you're facing an armed opponent without a weapon to match theirs. Vader got absolutely demolished when he tried to match his opponent head on, but then he realized the jedi would put himself in danger to protect innocents he got the upper hand.

Unlikely Remember what Sidious said about hunting a jedi to steal its saber and make it the first sith weapon. It's a sith ritual(but that brings question about Dooku, till where we know he didn't hunted and stole any jedi saber, he made his own jedi crystal bleed, so... Sidious didn't consider him a sith? Maul didn't kill a jedi before getting his saber either, but at least he wasn't a jedi before that)

@@KydzPlays Actually the Tenth brother was a full Jedi Master. Prosset Dibs. And Trilla Suduri, the Second Sister, was only a padawan.

I assume only a Dark Sider can bleed a Crystal. It's a test of their devotion to the Dark Side itself. Fallen Jedi would have to corrupt their own crystals. Or obtain new ones through trial by combat. I assume spare crystals are available for emergencies or acolytes who can't build their own yet. There's no way Savage built that so early in training.

The 2D animated Clone Wars shows Asajj Ventress being given two new sabers (as she used to use a blue and green). So it seems quite likely that the Master in these scenarios would bleed their crystals for their apprentices.

The bleeding crystal thing is canon and the 2D animation is not. It is possible to put it together via headcanon, but I'm just sharing the info ok? Don't mean to be rude. In Legends her lightsabers were given to her because Jango Fett killed Komari Vosa, a Dark Accolite of Dooku (legends Dooku's assistants). In canon she shows up in the 3D The Clone Wars already with red lightsabers.

Hmmm since the Inquisitorius preceded Vader’s knowledge of then, would it be interesting if they bled their own crystal for one blade, and the crystal from a jedi they killed/Palpatine gave to them for the second blade.

The idea that the Inquisitors crystals all come from Palpatines giant one could be used to demonstrate how much control Sideous has over them (especially if he’s already bled it red); that without him and his power over the dark side, they have nothing not even a weapon, that they are little more then slaves to him

I really feel the reason you have to bleed someone else's crystal is because the one you have as a Jedi is already tuned to you and by imposing your will upon it causes it to crack. That's why Ben Solo/ Kylo's crystal was fractured and unstable. Might be worth digging into more.

I very much got the impression that the inquisitors' lightsabers were mass-produced, standardised weapons, not the hand-made combination weapon/status symbols that they were for Jedi or Sith. So I know it was a joke, but I think the idea of Sidious having a giant kyber crystal that he had personally bled and then chipping pieces off it for each of the inquisitors' weapons makes a lot of sense. It's an extra layer of enslavement - even their own weapons, the symbol of their authority, are bound to Palpatine.

I don't think they did either, mostly because all Inquisitors basically have the same lightsaber. They seem more as weapons to me than the very personal lightsabers we are used to see.

What say that there cant be Red chrystals hanging around on planets that are strong with the darkside of the force for Sith and other darkside users to collect the same way Jedi do? It can be a test just as much as it is for Jedi for all we know. Now that does not mean that Sith cant bleed chrystals from other collors whenever they get through one or as a special rite of passage for aprenticies. Its just a different way to get them. Johan

It was like that in legends. There were natural red crystals and synthetic ones. In canon the bleeding thing is the only info we have.

I don't really see them bleeding their crystals. The way I see it, I think you need to be both strong enough and committed to the cause for the bleeding process to take effect successfully. Ben Solo was strong enough, but his conflicted nature caused his crystal to crack. The Inquisitors seem committed, but just not physically strong enough in the Force to have done so right away. Perhaps the Grand Inquisitor, I'll give you one or two could have gotten it done, but it just seems to me that bleeding requires more than just being one of the badguys, you have to really want it and have the strength to do it. When you see the Inquisitors in Rebels, they're really not all that strong or even necessarily as skilled because they use a tricky lightsaber that spins to compensate for that lack of skill. It's also for intimidation, but they all get beaten by someone using a standard blade and outmatching them. Their connection to the Dark Side just isn't strong enough despite their devotion to the cause in my opinion. Even someone like Ventress was given lightsabers that already had bled crystals, at least that's the origin in Legends, but I don't see that not being the case in Canon either.

Thank you for this - I have wondered this for the Inquisitors, for Asajj and Savage for a while now. I also took Ahsoka's familiarity with the crystal to be just her sensing a kyber crystal since she's a Jedi, but maybe she recognized it... dunno.

Sure enough. Illum as Starkiller Incident shows was bled too seemingly then ceased to be a source of un bled crystals in another sacrifice to perhaps a good and bad feeling about the resurrection in episode nine.

I still don’t mind having the Sith bleed kyber crystals to get their red bladed lightsabers. But I do miss & like how the Old EU handled lightsaber crystals. Like seeing synthetic crystals & planets hosting different lightsaber crystals to make a lightsaber was cool & unique imo.

I feel like it’s very fitting for the inquisitors to have stolen lightsabercrystals from the fallen Jedi of order 66 for some reason it just feels really Howardy and kind of like cheating and I feel like that fits the character of the inquisitors very well I also think it’s very likely that at least some of them that already had light sabers as former jedi just used their own crystals from before they turn to the Darkside and either bled the crystals themselves or had either Vader or Palpatin do It I definitely also think that most of the inquisitors recruited after the great Jedi purge would maybe just have been handed crystals from Palpatine’s giant crystal since most of the crystals from the Jedi would already have been used for something else I guess or at least they wouldn’t be strung about the Jedi Temple since they would probably have been cleaned up or something and since The inquisitors that joined after the Jedi purge didn’t have any lightsabers themselves And I definitely don’t think they would have made a huge deal about making a mission to get the crystals or anything like that I think Palpatin just wanted them to be put into action as fast as possible And he probably didn’t really care too much about how they got there Kiber crystals so probably just gave them some Maybe even some of the inquisitors who was recruited as younger Jedi took their own masters crystals especially if they had a hand in killing them??? or maybe the grand inquisitors supplied a bunch of crystals from the fallen Temple guards that he probably help dispatch

I certainly feel there were many cases Palpatine was not truly loyal to the code. He poisoned his master instead of facing him in battle. He used his students as weapons and never as a potential heir to his title

Here is my question: If a non-jedi force sensitive person (that was never trained/taken by the jedi) came accross a lightsaber or a kyber crystal that called to them, and the jedi found out about them, would they be allowed to keep the crystal because of the connection ?

Possibly yes but we don’t know the rules about kyber crystals & if non force sensitives can keep them or not. We’ve only seen Lyra Erso with one whom she later gives it to Jyn. We also see Churrit Imwae with a Kyber Crystal in the New Canon so far.

Why wouldn't they? Kyber crystals were not a property of the Jedi and the Jedi understand the will of the Force. If the crystal chooses someone, this person and the crystal belong together.

In Jedi Fallen Order Cal Kestus went to Ilum to get a new kyber crystal to replace the one in his master's lightsaber that he inherited. He found one and it split into two which he was able to use to make a double bladed lightsaber Are ALL double bladed lightsabers made this way? What about the lightsabers the Inquisitors use?

But Cal League' saber, now, doesn't use two separate crystals. His saber uses only one crystal split into two. I don't know why, is it because he can split the saber into two separate parts (which I would think need two crystals). Do all double sabers need two crystals or is one sufficient? How do the Inquisitor sabers work THAT'S what I want to know

I think it would be interesting if an inquisitor didn't bleed his/her cyber crystal and instead used the original crystal from beeing a jedi. I duno, it would be more interesting to me, because dark jedi (like exar-kun) used non-red lightsabers, for some time at least (tho he was an exeption) and if an inquisitor wouldn't have a red lightsaber, to diferenciate from the sith, it would be interesting.

Before I watch this video my guess is that some of them did, but I have a feeling that it was only a few of the hole who did because their training was simplified to a point that they were only taught to seek and kill so they lacked the fundamentals or even knowledge to do it unless they were dedicated to their craft or had exsperiance as a Jedi or gaurd like trila and the grand inquisitor.

Truthfully, I prefer the old ways of getting a red crystal, either finding a rare natural red or forging a synthetic, the notion of bleeding opens up to many questions, like if a crystal must bleed to get a red blade, then what in the name of the Force did Tarre Vizsla do to his crystal to make the Darksaber?

I like the idea that most of them did not bleed their own. Palpatine didn't consider his inquisitors true apprentices or potential heirs to his knowledge. They were functionaries--tools for his larger plan. Yes, there were some with potential to replace Vader, such as those knights or guardians who fell, but the younglings and padawans that were incorportated were accolytes who were forced to find a place in this order. When they rebelled, they were treated as Reva & abandoned or killed rather than taught how to improve.

I'm pretty late to the party, but I don't think Palpatine would do that sort of darkside work for the inquisitors or anybody really, he's a pretty busy guy. What use are they to him as essentially a Sith Assassin if they can't even channel the darkside enough to bleed their own lightsabers? I could see Plagueis perhaps doing Mauls first one, as he was still the Master at the time, and HE is the one who is shown to not care about the rules (ie his lack of interest in the rule of two); but as for the rest- Dooku, Asajj, Savage, the Inquisitors, and even like Maul and Kylo all in my opinion did it themselves. Palps doesn't seem like a gift bag kind of person, I don't think he'd *give* anybody anything without obvious personal gain, and especially not a Sith trainee who *needs* to prove, or die. If anything, the Grand Inquisitor himself did it for the lesser inquisitors, as he was in a sense a step above even Jedi Knight before as a Sentinel/Temple Guard before his fall, and arguably more familiar with the force as a whole than even Vader, having years and years of study and the approval of the Jedi Council to be in the position he was in. I'll admit, I didn't like the Grand Inquisitor when he was first introduced, I thought they'd start adding a bunch of characters like him as new canon and it would weaken the feats of his peers, but they didn't and they really stuck with just him being OP and having the lore to back it up, and by the time of the Kenobi show came out him being a force to be reckoned with has doubled my appreciation for the character and the time period between The Clone Wars and Yavin.

I believe they didn’t, but it’s mostly because I view them as so weak and don’t think they were strong enough. We see the process damage Vader pretty badly, and obviously Kylo failed.

I think that bleeding a crystal is just one part of the ideology of being a sith or being apart of the dark side. Just because you can do it doesnt make you a sith

I'm leaning on one thing u havnt considered the jedi temple guardians had 2 crystals in the short double blade sabers and the grand inquestor killed them all secretly during knight fall so could it be possible the first inquestors got there crystals from these weapons would make sence to bleed a crystal that's been tainted by dark side emotions the guardians would of felt having to use aggressive styles and techniques so logical these were kept didn't see them being destroyed the that comic also q Would imagine later inquestors learned to bleed but not many of the first generation with them being rookie padawans and knights

@@lucius6667I know, but that hasn't been confirmed by any official source yet. Besides, killing them in their sleep? Have you ever heard the tragedy of the guard temples, the bad protectors? It's not a story the inquisitors would tell you... Come on man, we are not talking of a dumb sith master, we are talking of the guards of the jedi temple here, they are the kind of guys who wouldn't be sleeping in their duty, especially with all the cry and screams of the jedi being destroyed. (if I remember correctly Anakin killing one guard at the entrance of the temple was shown in a vision in the book "force collector")

bleeding crystals is so unimaginitive. I loved the fact that Sith had to synthesize their own crystals because their connection to the force was tainted and crystals were a lightside only thing. Bleeding goes completely against the balance where you have pure light force being turned like a jedi to sith. the Force always maintains equal parts so the force can be manipulated but not changed as it is the same all around. This change to lore is about the same as saying well if Jedi can have force ghosts then so can Sith. The synthesizing their own crystals also further points out the lack of connection Sith have due to their fear and fear of loss but also shows how powerful they are to fight the living force to manufacture their own solution to jedi kyber crystal.

I like the bleeding component explaining why all dark side users use red sabers, in cases like the fallen Jedi, said process happening indirectly over time. What I don’t like tho, is the stupid idea that a Sith makes his saber with the one of a Jedi who he killed, it just brought more unnecessary plot holes than answers and honestly, is silly and impractical.

My biggest question with bleeding crystals is how did The Sith manage to do it for 1000 years between Darth Bane & Palpatine while still staying hidden? If you’ve got to take a lightsaber off a Jedi to do it then wouldn’t that raise suspicion if Jedi kept disappearing every couple of decades?

Toward the end of their training, Spartan soldiers were expected to murder a slave with their bare hands. The point wasn't to see if they could kill without a weapon, but to see if they could do it without getting caught. Perhaps a Sith apprentice was expected complete the murder without being caught or tracked.

@@robk1990 Jedi sometimes died on their missions anyway and they still had to deal with the occasional rogue dark jedi that fell to the darkside. They were also pretty lazy about search and recovery of bodies judging from how they dealt with Sofo Dyas' death.

@@robk1990 The galaxy is a big place with an estimated 3.2 billion habitable systems. And the jedi, as part of their self-proclaimed role as peacekeepers, stuck their noses into a lot of people's business, and many of them would have reason to have jedi killed. Between corrupt governments, ruthless corporations, violent criminal syndicates, and the Mandalorians why would the order consider the Sith, whom they believe they had completely eradicated, had anything to do with the unexplained murder of a single jedi every few decades? Sifo-Dyas was a former member of the jedi council and it took the order almost 14 years to figure out what happened to him. And actually, the jedi knew about the rule of two in episode 1. Which means they must have encountered the Sith in that 1000 year period. And possibly more than once.

I feel like it’s very fitting for the inquisitors to have stolen lightsabercrystals from the fallen Jedi of order 66 for some reason it just feels really Howardy and kind of like cheating and I feel like that fits the character of the inquisitors very well I also think it’s very likely that at least some of them that already had light sabers as former jedi just used their own crystals from before they turn to the Darkside and either bled the crystals themselves or had either Vader or Palpatin do It I definitely also think that most of the inquisitors recruited after the great Jedi purge would maybe just have been handed crystals from Palpatine’s giant crystal since most of the crystals from the Jedi would already have been used for something else I guess or at least they wouldn’t be strung about the Jedi Temple since they would probably have been cleaned up or something and since The inquisitors that joined after the Jedi purge didn’t have any lightsabers themselves And I definitely don’t think they would have made a huge deal about making a mission to get the crystals or anything like that I think Palpatin just wanted them to be put into action as fast as possible And he probably didn’t really care too much about how they got there Kiber crystals so probably just gave them some Maybe even some of the inquisitors who was recruited as younger Jedi took their own masters crystals especially if they had a hand in killing them??? or maybe the grand inquisitors supplied a bunch of crystals from the fallen Temple guards that he probably help dispatch
