@@nellrose4699 one idea I've had to get around the typical modern day Human companion (even though it'll never happen because Doctor Who rarely references arcs from previous showrunners) would be to have a Zygon companion who's been living peacefully on Earth since Day of the Doctor and joins the Doctor because they're simply bored of being restricted to a single planet, wanting to see more of the universe... it would give the opportunity for interesting ways to handle plots (and easier to put them in historical settings than someone like Karvanista).

Honestly, from your review this episode looks better than I remember it being. Yes, the villain is naff and I don't know why The Doctor seems to be keeping clothes in an engineering panel under the console, but the character stuff seems better than I remember, and knowing what we do now about "The Woman in the Shop" adds a little bit of an "oh!" moment. And, though it gets a bit of overuse, I don't mind Clara's theme. It's no Martha's theme, but it's still quite good and adapts to variety of scenarios.
@TheHufflepuffSaint2 жыл бұрын
Hold up. We do find out how Clara got the TARDIS' phone number. She tells the Doctor that she got it from the Woman in the Shop which turns out to be Missy in Series 8 with Capaldi. Though I would've loved that story thread to be solved while Matt was the Doctor because I really wanted to see Matt face off against Missy.
@mjm30912 жыл бұрын
Everyone is talking about future and Victorian Clara - I would love to see Dalek Clara be a full time proper companion. The split wouldn't even be the worst, cause this way she could relive her own life as human. Also they could use that to magically separate her into human companion for Capaldi. And they could use holograms for the historic episode. Also Claire from Flux.

It definitely could've been done a lot better. If it was taken a bit more seriously and was like black mirror or something it would've been decent. There were an unfortunate amount of small plot holes and things that should've been answered, as you pointed out. Of course, this is kind of a problem with the Moffat era as a whole and not just this episode. One thing that bugs me though, is the scene where all the people are giving the doctor and Clara money when the TARDIS arrives. I thought boom town established that people don't notice the TARDIS and just walk past it.

Still better than most of the episodes from series 7A (writing and directing-wise)
@YoMollyF2 жыл бұрын
Harry’s review of this episode is very telling over his lack of care to notice recurring details and the serialised nature of much of Moffat’s era, not to imply it’s perfect, it isn’t. He mentioned Victoria Clara which implies he’s seen snowmen but then he criticises the GI’s mind control of the head woman despite that literally being how he controlled Simeon who would go on to be his voice. It’s a consistent detail throughout the show. Being sponsored by VPNs should prolly give him the idea that A. People are stupidly careless when it comes to connecting to convenient WIFI and that if the Doctor can hack the Spoonman to release Clara the first time surely he can hack one to take control of the other. The eleventh hour which Harry does reference literally shows 11’s proficiency with technology so even despite it not reoccurring it should be enough history for him to be quick able during a WIFI themed story. I enjoy Harry because of his nitpicky-ness but there is a difference between pointing out key issues that aren’t discussed because they are so hyper specific and just not paying attention to the show. It’s not like Harry hasn’t missed the point entirely of many episodes which even he’s acknowledged (Heaven Sent) Harry on the off chance you are reading this, I strong urge you to treat the following season like your Flux review and come to a final conclusion after watching the entire season (that includes Snowmen as it is a fundamental piece of the story) as impacts of episodes/ issues are resolved/ acknowledged later on. The Doctor’s ‘keenness’ with Clara makes sense once you realise that she is an impossible puzzle he cannot crack and it’s not hard to believe he’d be a bit enthusiastic after having encountered the same woman twice before. We see this aspect of their relationship (his utter confused mentality in regards to her sheer existence) play out multiple times through the series. At least acknowledging and remembering key issues which do play out throughout the season and acknowledging them before each review would bring the quality way higher because it really feels like you aren’t half arsed to pay attention.

Doctor Who has a problem. The doctor is one person and is often too small to solve the massive problems he encounters. As such they either need a massive gimmick to resolve things (Nanogenes that can reset everyone, a atmosphere teraformer that can erase a poisonous sky, a satellite network that gives him power when people think about him) or they need there not to have really been a problem at all. (Being trapped on the motorway was for their own good, the alien possessing a girl and drawing people into pocket space was actually just a child, the doctor could always handle the family of blood but was too kind) the final way is almost insulting. Bargaining with the villain (the vashtanarada can look up the doctor and decide to give him 24 hrs to evacuate the library, the nameless cyborg can be convinced to protect a town called mercy, the twisted man is just looking for its partner and can actually get on the tardis to be taken to join her.) Moffet always had trouble ending things abruptly. The star whale, the library and the girl in the fireplace made it obvious. (Just break the mirror that connected the ship and the robots all give up.) It became worse when he introduced serialized episodes. Suddenly we get full episodes with practically no resolution or a BS one. So much was leveraged on the pandorica opening but the universe it happened in is long gone so the next episode does not even address it. Who were they fighting at Demon's run? Doesn't matter because let's kill Hitler is all about the origin of River Song and not about them. Nothing gets a satisfying conclusion anymore. I will admit that some things in RTD era were a little lackluster, such as the zigerates losing a duel and just leaving or the daleks being destroyed by the the bad wolf, the void, and the flip of a switch by the doctor/donna, but at least there was some setup to those and not just a random "look me up in the library and give me 24 hrs to evacuate." why couldn't he have done that before everyone died.
