And I haven't watched it in years. See, your whataboutism has no place here. Regarding Rory, I do think it was being used as a hint that his intuition was off as he was acting oddly. True - its not genius writing like Orphan Bennie, but it's certainly still more enjoyable to watch than anything Jodie Whittaching has been in. The twist at the end was very good and if we knock any points off for aging special effects, then the classics must be in the firing line too. Could even do that with stuff regarding H P Lovecraft, even, considering the series has dabbled with werewolves, witches and even Satan at one point. Plus, I guess it could always lead to a bit of a satisfying moment, of having a supremacist character's mind broken and reduced to an empty shell, after encountering whatever cosmic entity the episode has to offer. Especially with the running theme in Lovecraft's stories of challenging humanity's self worth in the universe. (Amongst other elephants in the room.)

A couple of ideas for the episodes: Would have been interesting to see a scene where they try to hijack the gangers consciousness with the Avatar machine. See if that connection is still there. Could’ve had a character that’s been possessed by their own Ganger or maybe their consciousness’ swap over, making a really interesting dilemma. Or like a Sleeper agent of sorts. Like you said in the review tension is only there when we don’t know which persons a Ganger or not. Ganger Jennifer could have walked perfectly on walls like she’s on an MC Esher painting instead of all the slimy Mr Fantastic stuff. She could walk in between small spaces like a Terminator or something. Disguise herself as a puddle and reform behind them. Lots of things can happen. Maybe there could have been a short scene where they don’t realise there isn’t a mirror in the room and what’s reflecting them is their own Gangers in the background (further hinting that the link is still there) akin to the Empty Child’s bedroom scene. Amy is the one who realises because there isn’t a “reflection” of her because she has no Ganger. The Gangers plan could have been to find a way to severe the neural link between them and their real selves. When their humane way doesn’t work they start picking off each of the real crew one by one. Rory could have made a reference to the flesh being like donor meat or something, making Jennifer angry. He could be trying to convince her of other benefits for Gangers not realising they want to be treated the same as any other human. Jennifer could get injured and he could have used medicine from a first aid kit or medical bay, but this just begins mutating her as medicine has an opposite effect on Gangers (or gives her fleshiness an adrenaline shot per sey, making her able to morph in a more tangible way to the other Gangers) (Not sure if I like this suggestion) everyone’s consciousness could be collected in a database which gets transferred to the last of the flesh they have in a vat. Making a Clayface type villain that can’t speak or something (giving the game away) acting more animal than anything and constantly shapeshifting into each character. Picking them off one by one, at one point it’s replaced the Doctor making everyone question where the real one has gone. Maybe the Doctor connects his consciousness up and possesses everyone of the Gangers making them go to the same room? (First sign Amy’s a Ganger because she ends up there) But the energy he expells doing that makes him pass out, the characters have to solve it now without the Doctor. There could be something there perhaps? A moment like the Zygon Inversion speech or something. Amy could be having the headaches because of all the interference instead of the boss lady (second sign she’s a Ganger) When they’ve gotten away the Ganger “Sleeper Agent” we establish at the beginning could kill Amy at the end of the episode with an acid burn, the audience wouldn’t have known yet she’s a Ganger and would’ve given the shock ending more of the kick it might’ve needed. When she melts away, it cuts to the “pop” scene. End.

This episode seriously confused me when I first saw it because the impression I got was that everyone was a clone from the start, that they would just clone themselves after suffering a fatality and then the clone would develop into a full human, and the cycle continued, and that apparently clones weren't considered legitimate if the previous clone was still alive. So all of that really scrambled my noggin as I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the real issue was; they talked like there were real humans and clones and that the clones didn't have any rights; but as previously stated, I thought they were all clones to begin with, that the 'original' humans died a long time ago, and their consciousness transferred into clone bodies. All of that in mind, seeing clone bodies melting into a living mass and them being destroyed by a sonic screwdriver only added further confusion as it just seemed like the screenwriter was just making the rules up as he went, all the while lazily slapping some kind of social commentary onto the story. And having said all of that; wouldn't this episode have been infinitely more interesting if it were about the Autons? That would justify body-modifications since Autons were just masses of living plastic, and exploring individuality and individual rights in this hive-mind species -as well as presenting a prior enemy now as a three-dimensional character, is an incredibly interesting idea
