Firstly, it was nowhere Jews could went. Secondly, many Jews thought that it was "the same" Germans as in WW1. Thirdly, many European governments and the US knew that happened during the Holocaust, but were so indifferent. Neighbors of Jews often hated them or supported Nazi ideology or don't want to risk their lifes. To my mind, it's logical that after this huge genocide Jews need to have own country. My aunt the last to pass away last February at 95. You told this part of the story so incredibly well. So moving. I literally was crying by the end. I actively avoid wallowing in the feeling of victimhood for what my few family members endured. Many years ago I realized how lucky I am even to have been born at all since Hitler tried his damnedest to murder my mother. But even though she and the rest of the survivor generation in my family is gone now, I see Israel as the future for carrying on the resilience and creativity of the Jewish people. I did not have children of my own. But when I recently spent time in Israel and met so many wonderful young Jews there, I feel very much that you are all my spiritual children. The sad thing is..almost everything she said you could replace the word Palestinian for Jewish and wouldn't be far wrong. Yet, she wouldn't be able to see this... She revels in Jewish resistance but would vilify the resistance of others. Never again.....FOR ANYONE......

Could not be further from the truth. Jews were to be integrated into European society, arabs in Israel want to overthrow Israel society and turn it into “palestine”.

I would like to know more about King David being a warrior please...
@margaretconnors58792 жыл бұрын
Why do you think God didn't want King David to build the Temple, it was because he was a man of blood, war. The women used to sing, Saul killed his 1,000s but David killed 10,000. He led his army allways untill he got too old. He sure was a hero He also was a man after Gods own heart. Go and look up the life of the Great KING DAVID in the Tenak or the scriptures where is is spoken about continuously. The Messiah will sit on Davids Throne in the coming kingdom age. SOON

That is Biblical text, not history, There is an independent verification of a King of Israel named David in the ancient world, but that's about it. In the Bible he was one hell of a warrior, and also, a very flawed person.

Powerful. But always remember that it was overwhelming violence that stopped the nazis, not cultural practice. Keep in mind also that there was never retribution for killing nazis; they were going to kill all of the Jews anyway. But for overwhelming violence in their defense, Jews wouldn't have survived. Resistance through practice would have been wiped out without resistance through violence. Am Israel must learn to live like eretz Israel, and quickly. We can't count on others to come to our aid.

I have always theorized Jews had been discriminated against throughout Europe long before the war. My theory is they were accustomed to being maligned. But they could have never imagined being sheep for wolves. To combat the Holocaust they would have to arm practically every Jew with artillery. They were blindsided and defenseless. Which is why it’s funny when ppl feel Israel today many of their citizens are soldiers. They have to be because they are surrounded by enemies.

I realize that this story is about Jewish resistance during the Shoah but you are talking like all Jews were murdered by Nazis. Many Jews in places like Lithuania, Latvia and the Ukraine were murdered by their neighbors. Lots of talk about the Nazis and their collaborators but even polish partisans that were fighting the Nazis managed to murder Jews along the way. That's history that deserves to be remembered.

Unfortunately the Jewish population of Europe had nowhere to flee to with the onset of Nazism. Except 2 places on our planet. The Dominican Republic and Shanghai, China. 20,000 fled to the latter between 1933 to 1941. These people were welcomed by the Chinese and could live in peace opening schools & stores. Shanghai already had an established community of Jews originally from Russia and a synagogue (Ohel Moshe). Then it all came tumbling down when the Japanese took Shanghai. The Jewish people were moved into a Ghetto in the Tilanqiao district. Jews weren't the main target of the invaders, 14 million Chinese were killed. Almost all Jews survived in the 'Miracle of Shanghai'. I've been to the Ghetto and a lovely Chinese man showed me inside his house there. On the site of the old Ohel Moshe synagogue there's an excellent Jewish museum. Yes everything isn't on any tourist map but I recommend anyone visiting Shanghai to seek these sites out. Maybe stay at the beautiful Peace Hotel on the Bund, near Nanjing road. The hotel was built by Iraqi jew emigre Sir Victor Sassoon and opened in 1929. It would be great if you made a video of these events

I am sorry but as a Soviet jew most went like sheep. “Resisting” by “defying” something. Resisting means fighting back physically and not spiritually. All the heroes you list are from 2,000 years ago. Out of 6,000,000 how many fought back? 6,000? Only Soviet jews mounted any kind of significant resistance via partisans. Of course, there were 500,000 jews in red army but that’s different. Warsaw ghetto uprising? That’s it… common now. Do you know why Soviet Jewish civilians fought back more than others? Because in atheism USSR you don’t rely on god, you rely on yourself. God defends those who defend themselves.

With most men gone to war, women holding children in one hand and old parents in the other had little chance to fight. But don’t forget million of soviet soldiers giving in to Germans near Kiev.

There were actually some Jews in the Nazi army, navy, air force, etc as Nazi Jews or Hitler's Jewish soldiers as Mischlings half Jews. They were actually given German blood certificate by Adolf Hitler himself. Then there's actually Ustachi fascist Croatians of devout Catholics who was actually far worse than the Hitler's dreaded SS. They actually murder 750,000 Orthodox Serbs, Croatians who were actually anti fascism, 60,000 Yugoslavian Jews, and 26,000 gypsies. There sheer brutality and horrors actually sickened the Germans and Italians in Yugoslavia. Then again you actually had certain partisans who were actually Jews who fought against the Germans and their own foreign collaborators. To the Nazis anyone who practiced Judaism but yet weren't Jews like Karaimes in Crimea were actually spared. Hitler himself actually spared the life of a family Jewish doctor who helped out his dying mother of breast cancer as he was actually the leader of Nazi Germany regime.

The Nazis “produced many euphemisms to cloak their” cruelties/intentions. So well said. May your honesty be blessed and you as well. ❤️🌹Courageously depicted! Apt for today also. Wasn’t too long ago! 1943. Many good Albanians-Albanian Muslims and some good Catholics helped save many lives -May Allah bless those who didn’t nod like Zombies. In Quran, one is expected to protect human lives and their places of worship-including synagogues, churches, monasteries, etc. Also, let us remember that good, practicing Jews are nothing like the bloodthirsty Nazis or Zionists. My best professors-the kindest-had been practicing Jews with love for all people, including Muslims.🌿

Nice propaganda, but not so true. Of course important facts are omitted. Jews were poor innocent victims, not a word about their participation in Stalinist crimes, where they constituted about 30% of the personnel of criminal formations, which gives them about 15 million victims at the hands of Jewish criminals (30% of 50 million) It is rude to portray Jewish armed groups in Eastern Europe as heroes. THESE ARE SOVIET COLLABORATORS who, together with the Soviets, terrorized local communities. The Bielski bandits are presented - about whom you can easily read that they murdered about 500 people, attacked nearby villages, attacked the headquarters of the Polish partisans when they suffered heavy losses after fighting with the Germans. On May 8, 1943, a massacre was carried out in the village of Nliboki, carried out by Soviet-Jewish forces. The Jewish participation is indisputable, many historians and witnesses point to the participation of members of the Bielski crime group in this crime, in which almost 130 people were murdered. which is natural, as they operated in the nearby Nalibocka Forest. Even the issue of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising was distorted. The most important factor initiating this uprising was the ŻZW, which had pre-war officers in its management and was a much larger organization. and also received help in the form of weapons. Anielewicz with his ŻOB was just an addition. The participation of the Jews in their own extermination was also omitted. Jewish self-governments, which at the beginning of the occupation wrote down the personal numbers of their communes, which made it easier to later place Jews in ghettos and made it difficult to hide outside the ghettos. The Jewish police, who kept order in the ghettos, but also sent their compatriots to extermination camps, pulling the hiding Jews out of their hiding places. Jewish Gestapo agents, operating outside the ghettos, showed where Jews were hiding. These people also effectively made local communities afraid to help Jews. For example, in Poland, where there was a death penalty for any help, the community tried to help the unfortunate, but Jewish collaborators were sent into the field, who returned after a few days with an SS unit, pointed out who helped them, people were murdered for it. The next time a Jew, some wretch in need of help, was sneaking around this area, people out of fear either hit him in the head and buried him on the spot or took him to the nearest police station

Back in early 60s, jewish historian Raul Hilberg angered many of his compatriots after publishing his massive book The Destruction of European Jews, for claiming that jews barely resisted and in fact many of them collaborated with the germans and the SS guards in the process. Because of that, Hannah Arendt apparently boycotted many previous attempts of Hilberg to publish his work prior to that.
