To all the people saying Kelly hasn’t got an airy and light whistle side. Within the lower range of your whistle register, it tends to sound softer and quieter, that’s talking about natural vocal effects, bring up Mariah, Chante, Morisette, ANY whistle singer, within their lower ranges sounds light and airy.

Preach! 👏 I get irritated with people acting like her range isn’t as good as it actually is. 🤦🏼♀️ Also, the person saying that she hadn’t done a whistle note since AI is totally wrong in general. I can recall the live one that she did on carpool karaoke off the top of my head & I’ve just become a Clarkstan in the last year or two.

I think it’s sort of pointless to argue about tbh. An Eb6 is well within Kelly’s wheelhouse. Even if it was an Eb5 with an Eb6 overtone, she still technically hit an Eb6. Also, I can think of at least two examples off the top of my head where Kelly went into whistle register since American Idol lol

Before this video I couldn’t hear the eb5 at all but that isolated vocal actually made me hear what others are talking about 😭 idk if it’s just some sort of overtone or what the explanation is,but I hear a much more clear eb5 in a light airy head voice. Like unmistakably clear. Not saying Kelly couldn’t actually do an eb6 there,but I’m afraid she didn’t 😭

Idk if there’s anywhere I can send a clip,but I put that moment of the performance in a voice isolation program and messed around with the key and I feel like it helps you hear the head voice part more clearly. I’d love to be able to send it 🦔

she sang a whole album years ago with whistle notes . Love so soft. But here I think it's like the mariah effect when mimi sang that one song stand up to cancer where subtlety which way you perceive it had two different tones same note different octave. As kellys voice has two different tones here but it was a eb5 note because how resonant it was and light and of course like mariah her voice is supernatural because it's not like something you hear everyday when first hearing either of their voices. It sounds like a whistle but not atleast imo , so I agree with other commenter's saying it's her head voice. Polyphonic

I'd say it is an Eb5. The Eb5 head voice note used here for comparison is not the best, because it was sung on a different vowel and a slightly different placement, that's why it sounds different, but the pitch checks out. The reason you can hear higher frequencies is cause of their voices blending together.

It sounds like a eb5 belt and whistle eb6 I slowed down the video to 0.25 speed. It started with eb5 and at the end somehow eb6 came out,

Here are the notes: say (Bb4) it (G#4) ain’t (G#4) so (G#4-Bb4-G#4-G4-Eb5) She jumps a minor 6th to an Eb5, which makes perfect sense musically. Kelly has shown that she can transition from chest to whistle fairly quickly (Natural Woman), but that vocal wouldn’t really make sense in the context of this duet given the style of the song - remember, Kelly is a good musician. The Eb6 is just an artifact from Kelly and Rivers’ voices blending in octave unison (Eb4 and Eb5), which brings out the overtone very strongly. However, this does NOT detract from the fact that she certainly does have the ability to sing in that register, which is rare and special.
@addictedtovocals7 ай бұрын
It’s not that she lacks practice lol, she chooses not to, and she does transition from chest to whistle as early as her iconic F#6 in American idol. Kelly is known as a belter and she loves it, not as a whistler.

She does have a whistle register, I’ve heard it a few times. I think she doesn’t use it very much because it may cause her to strain to hit that note and may damage her voice to where she needs extra rest. She’s just being smart about how she uses her gift. Her head voice is great as well. Especially in Favorite kind of High.

Lol you are Doctor Its are consistent. I'll give you that. I won't debate the E flat, because that definitely sounded like a 6th octave. That "D7", however, is still just C natural. Anyway, nicely defended.
