because she is polite. Nonetheless, Argerich has a very limited repertoire, she plays again and again same things (of course fantastic), so you all have no idea how would she play something she doesn't like or feel comfortable with. Probably bad, there are tons of great pianists who do that.
@rationalthinker-20242 жыл бұрын
@@fellipegalacho1874 yes, well said. many people confuse Martha's recent choice to focus on "limited repertoire" with Martha's career. Martha has played pieces that pianists don't even dare to touch like Rach 3rd, Strauss Burleske, Liszt Piano Concerto 2, Bartok, Prokofiev Piano Concerto 1, Mozart 25, and many other pieces like you said. The fact that now she decided to focus on her limited repertoire is her artistic decision - sometimes she goes back e.g. see the Chopin Piano Sonata 3 she recently played --- but stating that Martha has a limited repertoire is really inaccurate because she really showed in her career that she can play anything she wants to play.

I find it strange, and at the same time sad, the way this artist has to devalue herself. She says she plays the third concerto very badly? her recording with Abbado is far from bad, and was also awarded a Grammy Award in 2005. For the fifth concerto, if she likes it, and with maybe a little more preparation, she should be an excellent performer. She has the strength and the nobility of soul for it. As for the fourth, her refusal to play it, and the explanation she gives for it, has more psychological aspects than musical aspects. For someone who rightly claims to be a good interpreter of Beethoven, it is very confusing. There are many pianists who are much less gifted than her and who do not have as many scruples to play the complete set of Beethoven concertos.
@jameshakai16624 жыл бұрын

The woman is turning 79 this year. At that age even professional musicians do not expand their concert repertoire any longer. They only play what is stored in their muscle memory for decades. So if Martha does not have the Beethoven Concerti prepared, she certainly will not learn it now at that age. That is simply unrealistic.
