Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons were singing stuff that sounded a lot like Motown, before Motown was a record label a few years later. In the early 60s, these guys were on top of the music world. Then, Like all of the other American performers, like Elvis, and the others, they dropped down a notch or two with "The British Invasion of Band's like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and many others. Franki Valli was so good. So many hit songs.

Walking down the sidewalk, Newport Beach, summer 67 listening to my "Transistor" radio and this song comes on....WOW. We all knew Frankie and The Four Seasons were damn good, but, this one blew everybody away. Just hearing it brings me back to that moment.... Music Is Magical.

A number one hit record for Frankie Valli in 1967 and the 5th most played song of the 20th Century. Written by Four Seasons band member Bob Gaudio & Producer Bob Crewe. Valli & The Four Seasons went on to have over 60 Billboard Chart records in their career. A fantastic review my friend.

With the Four Seasons, Frankie Valli had dozens of hits but this is probably his best one. Frankie was a self-professed fan of Frank Sinatra and it is kind of done in that style. The Four Seasons did a Frank Sinatra cover and had a big hit in the mid-60s with I've Got You Under My Skin. You should definitely check that one out.

As I see it, having lived it, in the 60's-70's songs came on the radio ALL THE TIME that you couldn't wait to hear it again... Call the station and request it, at least 80% was great stuff. Today's music I hear it and think... I never want to hear that again. It all sounds the same digital crap, barely 20% is worth hearing more than once. We were so lucky.

Smooth! Smooth, super sixties smooth. You know you've got the classic version when the tambourine kicks in during the big chorus before the song turns around to start again with a Motown like sound of four piece combo and strings. Dig how the various instruments subtly introduce themselves in the opening verses before all joining together as a full orchestra. And that drum line -- right from the start it guarantees a groovy vibe. When you're ready for more from Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, check out "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Sherry", "Walk Like A Man", "Who Loves You", "My Eyes Adored You", and "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)" among many others.
