Imagine the advantage Collingwood get playing on the MCG 17 times a year
@nickwyllie75637 ай бұрын
Yeah totally we should get Essendon playing at home against Collingwood up at mars stadium
@JCStorm767 ай бұрын
They play 13 or 14 games home and away games there every year. Stop exaggerating plus it’s very little difference to how many home games the two SA and WA sides get
@brettr55477 ай бұрын
They play every other game away Collingwood would see a plane 3 maybe 4 times a year@JCStorm76

@@brettr5547 6 this year including 2 in their first 4 games. They also won 5 of their 6 of their interstate games last year and the premiership. About time other sides lifted their game when on the road like Adelaide for example. Just maybe some of these teams might actually win a premiership again themselves one day

As a swans fan. I agree, there is a definite advantage. But it's not something that has impacted round 1, the advantage will come with an extra bye for those teams. The rebuttal to that however is, that there are teams advantaged by the fixture every season.
@jaredburgess83817 ай бұрын
Exactly right. It's just a redundant whinge from the supporters of teams who weren't properly prepared for their first game of the year.

Brisbane and pies seem most at an advantage i would say

In a competition that is inherently unfair because each side plays other sides a different number of times and with different numbers of home games and games hosted in neutral locations etc....do we really care that this makes that much difference? Maybe all of their observations say more about the sides themselves than whether they'd played a game the week before or not....
@jacksonrobbins22887 ай бұрын
Having a round played up north is a perfectly fine idea, but to only have half the teams play was crazy. Why not just play the 4 other games elsewhere?
@CaptainStraya7 ай бұрын
Out of the 8 teams that played in opening round, 4 played each other in round 1, Melbourne and the giants beat teams that finished below them last year, and Brisbane lost. Gold Coast played well but they were at home to a team with a similar list profile
@Woodsy32117 ай бұрын
The saints forced Bye in opening round. Geelong in Geelong Rd1. HOME GAME Vs Collingwood at the MCG on a short turnaround after the first game of the year! Absolute bullshit!
@Woodsy32117 ай бұрын
The teams playing opening round now get a timely bye in the first half of the season.
@M-lt6kx7 ай бұрын
Didn't the saints choose to play it at the G?
@robsonbennett-cochrane20047 ай бұрын
Before I even watch this the answer is yes. 8 clubs have 2 byes throughout the year compared to other teams having 1 bye in the middle of the year. Spaced out breaks are an advantage.
@nickwyllie75637 ай бұрын
But the theory has always been that teams struggle to win after the bye, so what would your argument be now?
@robsonbennett-cochrane20047 ай бұрын
@nickwyllie7563 some teams struggle after byes. Not all teams. Further disparity in fairness. Perhaps geelong is better off not playing in opening round due to their lapses in performance after byes
@jaredburgess83817 ай бұрын
There are advantages all throughout the AFL. Some teams play either Eagles or North twice this season, some teams have the MCG as their home ground and use that advantage in finals, some teams have academies, some teams have never been able to access father-son picks. This whole conversation is utterly redundant.
@dilanabey7 ай бұрын
I don't get how the advantage can exist when we are ALWAYS told that a player coming back from a long injury has a much tougher SECOND game than first game.
@RobKieranz7 ай бұрын
We have the greatest game in the world being run by absolute amateurs. The fixture and the draft are both highly compromised and downright unfair to some clubs compared to others, and don't get me started on those on the rules committee. Jacko was right. They have turned it into the company game. Not the people's game anymore and it's getting worse and worse all the time.
@catchemcarlisle56557 ай бұрын
obviously it is, easiest fix was to have any team that didn't play round 0 against a team that did should have played at home. Adelaide traveling to gold coast was an absolute joke

In what world is tripping someone now kicking? Some people have no idea, you don’t kick someone by placing your leg behind them as they’re falling. You put force into a kick, it’s pretty simple if you’ve watched any physical altercation ever
@crazyhobomofo88797 ай бұрын
Regardless of the force its still an illegal action on the field. Should not happen some player might panic and throw a leg out, should be a free kick 1st time if it happens again in the same game and same player bench that fool
@donny86197 ай бұрын
Of course it’s an advantage. Still no excuse for Collingwood to play poorly.
@ozgecko40507 ай бұрын
No it’s not. In other sports including afl where there will be an odd amount of times, does the team with the first bye have a disadvantage ? Of course not. It’s nonsense
