Such a stroke of luck for the 3 Beatles to find in a couple months someone who looked exactly like Paul McCartney, had his exact voice, was also one of the best bass players (left handed) in the world, and also a hugely talented composer. What are the odds?

It gets even weirder than that. I saw a video where they said that the guy who replaced Paul then died (of an overdose I think) and was replaced by a third Paul! Haha, I have never been to Liverpool, but I'm starting to think that most of the people there must be Paul McCartney look-a-likes!

Some years ago I got into this same quest...although I never found any info to support a switch. What I did find was a wealth of Beatle videos..movies that left me feeling sad that the age was now history. All of it reminded me how great they were and they were very much a beginning of rock. Those times cannot be recreated, but for millions will never be forgotten. I discovered many videos I had never seen and it was fascinating to once again see the appeal and enjoy their music as well the group interaction. Paul McCartney entered a Paul McCartney look-alike contest in London and lost to a guy named Billy Shears' I'm not sure how you could look more like a person than the person himself but if you google for an image of Billy Shears you will understand how it could happen. There will usually be a side-by-side comparison picture of McCartney and Shears. Remarkable likeness. He is an actual person who won the look-alike contest and he's the person they were referring to on the Sgt. Pepper album where Ringo sang the part.

The faux Paul was not left handed, which is why they stopped doing live shows. He did learn how to play left handed, but there are reports of him playing right handed in the studio. What makes me think it could be true is that the song writing style changes drastically. Early Paul is a genius. Faux Paul writes dance hall tunes. I can't stand his songs. I can't stand Let it Be or Long and Winding Song. I hate that song writing. Sgt Pepper is NOT the same song writing as Revolver. I'm a song writer and I played in bars for years covering Beatle songs. I don't cover any songs after 1967 because I can't stand them. The early songs are so good that any musician who learns the chord changes on those songs is mind blown. It's almost impossible that they are that good. If you go over to my channel, you will find my song writing, which is greatly influenced by the early Beatles. The bridges change rhythm, and keys. They take a major B and turn it into a minor B in the key of G, and then use a Bflat 7th...really crazy stuff. It's almost more believable that the early songs were composed by classical musicians at the Tavistock Institute, another conspiracy. If that one were true, then the genius song writing would have continued. Sgt Pepper sucks. Sorry, but it's all dance hall tunes. Real Paul was a freakin genius and it must have totally broken John's heart when he died.

@@HollyBluePlanet You make some good points and you obviously know a lot more about songwriting than I do but maybe the change was due to them having less time to focus on writing songs since their personal lives were becoming very chaotic due to their popularity, drugs and women as well as the death of Brian Epstein. George Martin comes on the scene and he loves the orchestra backing in a lot of songs, something that Mccartney disagreed with in most cases. Also Paul would go back home to visit his brother and father as well as aunts, uncles and cousins especially during the holidays and an impostor could not have fooled the family and childhood friends. I'm gonna check out your channel because I'm guessing you're pretty good. Oh, one last thing what do you think of Post Beatles Paul. The songs he wrote with wings. @@John_Malloy Well, to begin with, the "Paul is dead" crowd cannot substantiate any part of their claims. As far as Paul being the sole writer of any song in The Beatles' catalog, I assume nothing. Along with their collaborative efforts, there are plenty of songs that can be unequivocally called "John alone" or "Paul alone" songs by the stylistic fingerprints found on them, but also from what is remembered at the time by them, and others in and close to the band. So, when John said in a 1980 interview of "Helter Skelter": "That's Paul completely," I tend to believe him. If he died, they would’ve probably have disbanded shortly afterwards. The Beatles were human beings, not soulless businessmen. They wouldn’t just replace their friend/brother with a fake. I have no argument with the talent of the current man posing as Paul McCartney. I do have this issue...Paul McCartney was, in the few short years we knew him, an incredible talent and a good mate to John and the others but his legacy was thrown aside. Follow the money. There is one son of the current man posing as Paul, who will carry on the McCartney name, sadly, continuing the big con. I hope Ringo will end the con job before he passes so that Paul can have his rightful rest.

The thing that got me was his height. In his earlier photos, he was almost the same height as John and George, but in later photos he was much taller. Even pictures of Paul with Jane Asher, they were almost the same height. Shortly after his supposed death, he seemed much taller than Jane. And after what he claimed was a great relationship with her, they suddenly split up. I'm not convinced that he did die, but usually where there is smoke, there's fire.

Fil is right. Not everything needs to be or should be 'bang on' a note -- pianos, for example are stretched tuned and the tuning will vary across the keyboard just to get everything sounding properly harmonically. And of course with vocals, so much expression can be added by deliberately impacting intonation. This is why blanket pitch correction drives me nuts! My preferred method of using it in my own work is with Melodyne and just adjusting specific notes that are a bit out.

@@MightyGimp What is there to argument? All of the changes you Paul is dead believers point out have THE MOST logical explanations ever! Different face? It's not different. He lost weight in the 60s because of drugs (as did John Lennon and the rest of the Beatles), His face is longer? It isn't. He has shorter hair which lets you see more of his head. Difference in height? HOW. Just look at any performance he does today and you will se he is of the exact same height, and sometimes has the exact same pose when performing as he did on Ed Sullivan and other early performances. Different voice? N O. Exact same voice, but with a wider range. If you really want to compare it, look at the Long Tall Sally performance in 1972, exact same voice. But the MAIN thing about this idiotic theory is that it doesn't make sense that they would replace him at all if they all would end up breaking up 3 YEARS LATER. You are telling me that they went thru the trouble to replace Paul McCartney, to find an exact copy of him, with a similar voice, better songwriting and playing skills, to perform surgery which at the time would have costed billions if not more, to have to force ALL the people he ever knew and loved to shut up about the whole thing, just for the Beatles to break up and for him to end up having a pretty medium and boring carer in the end? PLEASE. John Lennon called you FREAKS in his song "How do you sleep" , and he described you perfectly, because what are you gonna do after you read this (if you read it), you're gonna dismiss all of this, and go back to your delusional theory and keep believing that you have "figured it out" and all the rest of us normal folk are sheep 😂

Wondering if certain attributes such as vocal skills carry over to clones. I don’t think Paul was cloned though since fortunately they had access to this guy, Paul’s double which had this remarkable human likeness to Paul, with only slight physical differences such as height and hair parting. Amazing that this guy had the musical gifts to carry on. Wow. It’s said that The Queen, and Shot callers made this decision to use P.M.’s body double which all the members of the band had one, as to not loose the money generated from the popularity of The Beatles at that exact time. These talented, wonderful guys created a craze that was unknown to exist ever before. Always follow the money. What a remarkable, insane, World we live in.

Two things. Firstly: Distinctly remember our house lodger in Bristol getting me to read an article back to him when I was very young. A single column on the right hand side of the inner pages of a local Bristol paper, reported Paul had died at the scene of an accident on the south bound of the M1 motorway into London in the early hours of a February morning, with a lady friend, both dressed in white, in a white Volkswagen beetle, after it reportedly hit black ice. No other traffic was involved. Searched to find the article online, but seeing as I don't know what newspaper it was, cannot find it. Second: Was going through regular plastic surgery to repair my harelip, became a young expert in telling the 'slightest' difference in facial appearance, my own face, other children on wards in hospitals as swellings went down, stitches removed. Noticed his face was longer, skin tone, nose tip & ears were different, biggest difference in the eyes, the cheeky sparkle had gone. Even his mannerisms, voice & personality was different, more serious & well behaved, no acting silly anymore. Also, the Beatles, let their hair & facial hair grow wildly. A disguise perhaps. Alleged reasons for allegedly replacing Paul, the Beatles were generating a lot of income for the treasury in tax income for Britain at the time, and, the 1966 World Cup was coming up in Britain, so was apparently to keep spirits in the country high, Harold McMillan quoting 'Britain has never had it so good!' Also at the time, was the big switch from b+w to colour television, so appearances could've been lost in peoples perception back then too. Remember the day our b-w tv caught fire, fire brigade came, so my Dad had to fork out £300 for a new colour 26" television. Yeay!

The car that was totaled in the January 7th accident you mentioned was Paul's mini-cooper, being driven by a friend of Robert Fraser (Paul's art dealer Fraser Gallery) named Mohammed Chtaibi -- long story short -- party at Paul's 7 Cavendish Ave. home ... ran out of drugs .. decided to take the party to Keith Richards's West Wittering cottage -- the group took off in two cars. Road conditions were bad, and Chtaibi didn't know where he was going, so he was speeding to catch up with the lead car, Mick Jagger's mini-cooper. Paul was in the first car with Mick, Keith, and I know for sure the son of the British Governor of Rhodesia , Christopher Gibbs... Chtaibi was taxiing the others. Well, he lost control of the car, and hit a pole in the exact middle of the vehicle. It's amazing that no one was seriously hurt. The reason people thought Paul was in the car is because the bevy of girls that hung out at Paul's gate 24/7 saw the group of people spill out of the house and pile into the two cars. These fans saw only a blur of people, but they assumed that Paul was driving his own car. A story did run in the paper, but it was immediately corrected. One of those things that happened before cell phones and mass media.

@cliff How would a voice coach even know? You need to get a life and let Paul live his. A hoax from 66 to sell records is all it was. Paul's voice is raspy from a lifetime of smoking so he's going to sound different. Paul played left and right handed as a stunt in 1963. So, that comparison means nothing. Billy Shears doesn't exist anymore.. He didn't look like Paul then. He died over 3 years ago according to various accounts. But I don't think he ever existed in the first place. William Campbell Shepherd was a worker on Paul's farm. He's been dead for years, yet he's supposed to be Billy Shears. If Paul had died in 66, the whole world would have known. Like John said: We can't do anything that the world doesn't know about since so many reporters follow our every move. Paul is 80 and has smoked his whole life. His voice is raspy. He no longer performs. And the Beatles were a relic from the 20th century. Get a life. Other British Invasion groups were actually better. The DC5 for one.

The fact which is really fun, is the Beatles attitude toward all of this. A lot of peoples are searching about deep meanings in their songs... But if you look closer at their lifes, interviews and careers, you will know that they never took all of this seriously. And that was the secret of their creativity. They were joking along, playing, doing weird stupid things, writing nonsense lyrics because it was actually fun. Ringo told John "John this song doesn't make sense" John replies "Just go with it Ringo, let them fu_kers try and figure this one out" referring to the college professors trying to decode his lyrics. It was pure genius since the song went on to become the iconic classic it is today. But the craziest Beatles song that John wrote has to be (You know my name, look up the number). In my opinion it's another masterpiece but got no air time. The vocals are Paul and John. Talk about having some fun. Oh and by the way I think there is still today people trying to find a deeper secret meaning to (I am the walrus).LOL

In 1966 I was 7 years old and was positive that I was destined to marry Paul McCartney. (I figured that age 13 was old enough.) When I heard he was dead I tried to convince my mother to travel to England so that I could attend the funeral and hurl myself into the grave. It was almost as bad as the time when I was 4 and there was a rumor that the Beatles had cut their hair.

I believe you just described the reason for the cover-up. The four lovable lads from Liverpool were on everyone's radio/turntable (if you were under 21!) I managed to buy my first ever album in 1963, at the young age of 8! They were a phenomenal band with easy to learn lyrics. I wanted to dress like, look like and sing like these guys! Alas was not to be for an Army Brat. I am grateful that my Mom and Dad let me buy their records and listen to those four amazing guys! What a time it was... ...Listen... ...... Do you want to know a secret? Do you promise not to tell? I'm in love with yoooou, Closer... Let me whisper in your ear... ...say the words you long to hear... ... I'm in love with you! It still has it's charm, after all these years... Thanks for sharing your precious memories!

LOL ... The PIDers don't explain that either (no funeral). Better yet, if their beloved Paul really died, where are the tributes of these believers on the anniversary of Paul's "death"? (It's hard to get near IMAGINE in Central Park on December 8, any year) Surely they love Paul enough to have some kind of candle-light vigil, or sing-along around Forthlin Road ... but no ... they just scream from the rooftops that Paul is dead, without honoring him on his "day" in any significant way . . . Strange . . . .

There used to be some interesting videos on KZbin, explaining how Paul may have died, and was replaced. The last few years, all such videos have been deleted/banned. The photos of Paul after the death, of the original are SHOCKING. I saw them before they were scrubbed off the internet. Suddenly 'Paul' was taller, AND A LOT taller, at that. Different nose, jaw shape, chin, just totally crazy. He was a folk singer, from that area, and this was the ultimate career boost for him. The Beatles were MEGA STARS, at the time, and a MASSIVE CASH MACHINE, that too many big players, had a stake in. The current Paul, is a liar of 5 plus decades, and this BECAME his life. Reminds me of a certain tennis player, who was born male, and had a massive career, as a 'female'. Big money, and political agendas, do make great bedfellows.

So wonderful. People of a certain age who grew up with the Beatles grew up listening to his voice. It was the norm to us so thinking it was flat, imperceptibly so, never crossed our minds. That’s just his voice. I also think the rasp was intentional in some songs, especially Hey Jude. Paul has an incredibly elastic voice. From a typical, to sweet to rockin’ it screaming. Always appropriate for the song. Also, ponder different tunings on guitar for effect. Drop D comes to mind as well as Open.

I always thought Paul sounded flat of the note.. Hey Jude & Yesterday in particular.. but other songs like Can’t Buy Me Love he was bang on.. I feel him singing flat of the note made the song more moody.. & that I think that was what he was going for.

Everything about your analysis is spot on, plus, when you hear the vocals isolated you can easily tell that the vocal timbre is identical in both Yesterday and Hey Jude. Every person's timbre is distinctly unique. That means it is obviously the same person singing both songs. Paul did not die. The whole rumour was a lark at best, and possibly a cynical publicity stunt. Thanks for another great analysis video!!!! 👍

Our ability to distinguish each person's distinct vocal timbre, one from another, is how we can recognize someone by their voice alone. To my ears the timbre is identical in both Yesterday and Hey Jude. In other words: I can recognize them both as being sung by the same person, i.e. Paul McCartney!

William Campbell (Billy Shears), who was allegedly a very talented Liverpudlian, also won a lookalike (which is documented, they did have) contest, disappears around the same time. They were not touring, plastic surgeries, height, eye color, etc. Not like I've thought about this or anything. 😆 I love Paul's voice (all of the years)! There was also (allegedly) worry about teenage girls committing suicide, and concern from the Crown. I see how it could have snowballed, reacting too quickly, and then finding out it worked, then afraid to admit the deception, to the unforgiving fans Oh, and let's not forget about the $$$! Really, I just love puzzles. 😆 Thanks Fil!

I toy with the idea occasionally that it is a different Paul now, but, for me, it still goes back to the fact that ALL the audio "clues" on the records were of John's voice. I really think he did it as a joke to see how long Paul would take to catch on. It did have the ring of a "John practical joke" to it. I do remember hearing that Paul went somewhere & came back to John's house to see the final proofs of the complicated Sgt Pepper cover. He had been assured they would wait for his okay before printing it. But John said it was already at the printer. Paul stormed away. Then straightaway, Sargent Pepper came out with a bunch of hidden clues. After 1966, they stopped touring. Sales flagged after a few years. But the record sales went through the roof when the rumor finally went mainstream. (Lots of kids had destroyed their records playing them backwards!) They had to stay together then, but after agreeing to stop touring, it wasn't so physically draining. Many times, they recorded stuff separately. By 1970, the story broke bigtime as he was at his place in Scotland with Linda and their new baby, and he found himself faced with a reporter and cameraman dogging him for answers. Had to be maddening if it was the real Paul. If not, ig might explain how all four could begin suing the others just on the advice of lawyers.
