I actually first saw this on r/MushroomID. I’m not a member, but it frequently pops up in my feed, and it’s interesting to check out every once in a while. The alien post was crazy.

The artists did a bang-up job. The head and tendrils have a very natural appearance, almost translucent at the thinnest parts. But there's always a catch, the neck seems to be patched onto the body and a different color altogether and the tendrils seems to be patched onto the body with the same discoloration at the base where they meet. It looks like Ave's Apoxy Sculpt or Miliput. It looks like various vegetation at different bruise rates, smashed together... good job though, getting anything to look good at this level in natural light is hard, so kudos to the artist. (the face was also carved directly into the head, you can still see some marks from the tools on it)

I've been to these curiosity shops in Hollywood. Places like Memento Mori and Bearded Lady's Museum sell pretty good gaffs (fictional taxadermy). You can find vendors when the "Oddities and Curiosities" and the "Oddities Flea Market" events are in town. They even offer taxidermy classes where you can make your own two headed duck!

Why is it not occurring to people that maybe they deliberately posted it to a mushroom subreddit to add a false layer of authenticity? It’s a pretty genius idea but it’s not like impossible to think of. If they sculpt something so they don’t have to photoshop it and make it look more obviously like a hoax, and make it look very fungus or plant like then why not try and play naive and ask a mushroom subreddit about it? It’s like a decent horror movie setup. Also the account being old doesn’t mean shit. You should do a video about the South American mummies, because since the initial announcement there’s been a lot of additional specimens shared and being analyzed with xray/ct scans, with different looking anatomies. It was completely debunked in academic circles and later forensically debunked, if you're speaking of the peru "alien" debacle. If you're speaking of the chinchorro mummies, which is unlikely but what South American mummies usually refers to, then there is plenty of documented analysis on that, as well. I think your problem is you're looking at fringe conspiracy websites, instead of actual research, which could be found in an academic search engine. You know. Like they teach you in *middle* school.

I even use Mushroom ID. It is helpful for identifying halucenogenic shrooms that you are unsure if are poisionous or not. It is one of the less weird subs out of all the subs the zestpool of a site hosts. My guess is someone left a handmade doll there on purpose to be found and to shock/surprise. So; most likely some sort of prank. At one point a local store was about to close and they were selling their mannequins for very low prices. Was thinking of buying some and repainting them to look scary and then hiding them in the woods in the hope to scare wanderers.

I recently watched a video here on KZbin where some special effects artists made a fake UFO video to see how easy it is to pull off a hoax. They specifically chose to post it on Reddit using an account that was several years old and had a good amount of non-UFO related post history because it would make it more believable. It was executed just like this one.

This alien is actually an alien, i bought the set of them years ago from a shop, some guy makes them as art pieces. They come in male, female and juvenile, i think its latex ovet a wire skeleton to make them posable. The fact someone thinks its an alien is hilarious to me because its is. Hope this clears things up
