Did Street Fighter 6 Have A Perfect Launch?

Overall, I would say the launch of SF6 is a Big "W" For Fighting Games. Most people don't realize or will recognize how lucky everything went smoothly. Arguably, one of the many problems SF6 had is the lack of an "Element of Surprise" regarding the Season Pass. Because everything for Season 1 got leaked. Furthermore, it's only the Vanilla Version of SF6! I'm so excited for the next Seasons! Just my two cents, Take care, James!

Yeah, I think SF6's launch has been the best fighting game launch since SF4 hit home consoles. There are things I both like and dislike about the game, but I can't deny that it had a great launch.

Capcom had to go through hell after SFV launched in such a terrible state, so they made sure that 6 was ready when it came out. I do think that the post launch has been lacking, I miss when they did those little update streams for the final season of SFV, now we're back to getting trailers on a random Thursday.

@@rabbyd542 I disagree, outside of bugs tekken is way more fun to me then current sf6 which feels like you get locked in place with rushdown offense. At least in tekken you have multiple options. Plus watching 5 or so characters constantly in tourneys are boring. Meta is awful and I won't change my mind

@@666slateran666 I prefer Tekken as well and yes, SF6 is extremely boring to spectate and play actually. The whole game is crouching MK/MP into drive rush into throw mixup. Once a match you do your lvl3 combo and get a free round and that's about it. The game has little to no depth.

Fun is subjective. Tekken is the game that I’m seeing a LOT of complaining about gameplay-wise, when guys like Arslan Ash are trying to say the game sucks. I see top players complaining about the gameplay all the time. So it’s fine if YOU enjoy Tekken more. That doesn’t mean that everyone agrees. All games get complaints about fun. And SF6’s complaints about “fun” took a while to manifest. The honeymoon period lasted quite a while for the game.

sf6 has SO much potential. And for a first version is incredibly balanced and well made. *for a first version*. Its first version is actually nearly as balanced and polished as most fighting games *final* version. Do i still really wish it gets even better? YES! sf6 still has problems. drive rush needs nerfs, certain characters need the edges sanded off, and the bottom 5 or so really need some help. but honestly if it wherent for the fact that weve had to wait a whole year for a patch, and a patch which in large part, had obvious fixes to make, id say sf6 is doing a super great job. just, a slow one.

Thank you for doing this, James. I feel like (and I might be wrong about that) most people will rather vent their frustrations with specific things than praise what is working really well. Not only can this vocal majority create the impression that pretty much everyone thinks like that, it might also suggest that the game is in a bad state overall, which in SF6's case, I would argue, is wrong. It's so easy to get hung up on the stuff that doesn't work or is annoying, and whatever works fine or is maybe even exceptional is more or less seen as a given or as the absolute minimum. So, kudos to you for trying to create a bit more of a balance in opinions.

Tekken currently has an average of 14k player peak 24 hours and Street Fighter 6 has an average of 23k player peak 24 hours on steam alone. Street Fighter 6 has roughly maintained this 24 hourly player peak for the last 8 months after its initial drop in the player count! People on KZbin and Twitter and reddit and other social media cry about the avatar and battlehub stuff but it's clearly working since Capcom keeps making regular content for it!

The thing about the Avatar and Battlehub stuff is that even if it is overpriced...it's just avatar stuff, so people who only care about the core game aren't affected at all. Just about everyone customizes their characters in Tekken, so them making a mess of that is certainly an issue. That's on top of them completely screwing up this latest patch.

Costumes for Characters, Ken, Luke, JP. People hating on Avatar skins becuase Capcom focusing on the Casual scene first which doesn't last long in Fighting Games, it's Capcom people, the costumes and stages are coming.

As compared to MK1 and T8, SF6 does have a better launch. Even SF6’s battlepass is not that bad as compared to T8. Only thing I would like to complain about SF6 is the costume 3 prices which is absurd. T8 battlepass is rather lame.

Unlike T8, where it kinda give slap in the face with all those custom outfit you should have from the beginning'

SF6 been extremely enjoyable to me but in many regions that aren't NA or Japan and certain parts of EU, matchmaking been a problem ever since the release, and idk if it's going to get fixed until they completely remove regional restrictions, and it's a shame with how well sf6 plays over distance. And that's not even talking about awful mtx practices capcom employs

They already unlocked the regional restrictions with three options for online matchmaking; limited, expanded, and worldwide. And here in SEA i got plenty of players to play.

SF6 outside US and Asia still has problems with finding matches even with new search settings. I get games in Tekken 8 much faster and don't have to wait for 5-10 minutes for a fight. At least MTX in SF6 were obvious, while T8 team just straight up waited for a month for good reviews and refund period to be over to just drop Tekken Shop and Battle Pass (which is garbage). SF6 skin prices are rediculous for characters. I don't even want to do anything with world tour freaks.

Still enjoying Tekken 8 after launch despite the microtransaction controversey and bugs. Its just so deep that even 100+ hours in im still discovering new tech everyday with my characters. Sf6 already feels figured out and has much less character expression. Ill come back to street fighter with akoomer though forsure. Have to see how broken he is xD also i had a interest in unis 2 because i picked up the last one but hated the netcode. Well guess what the pc version was broken at launch and also is 50 bucks. Personally waiting for a sale myself. Too many other good fighting games to play, ABA just dropped in strive James don't forget.

SF6 launch was NOT good AT ALL. There were a ton of issues in SF6 since launch, both in design (World Tour sucks, too small roster at launch, hand-holding system in Ranked) and technical issues (throw escape bug, input reading bug, matchmaking issues). SF6 launch was far from perfect. In contrast, MK1 is amazing, yes it did have some bugs also, but compared to SF6 or Tekken 8, MK1 beats them both in every possible regard: gameplay, balance, content, presentation, design and roster. It's just that the FGC tries to protect SF at all costs, even by denying objective facts. And of course, the MK community always crap on their games until the next one comes out, the only difference is that because all 3 games (MK1, SF6 and T8) all came out around the same time, it gives the entire FGC and content creators extra fire power to use against MK1, but in reality, MK1 is and was always the best of the 3. Even the MTX in MK1 is better than either SF6 or T8, since MK1 doesn't have a battle pass and the prices for the MTX are perfectly fine. Oh and MK1's "P1 combos" bug only happened with 6 chars and only one move for each of them, Tekken 8 actually has a true P1 advantage bug that affect the entire roster, MainManSWE made a whole video about it. MK1 is truly PHENOMENAL, but SF6 and T8? They both mediocre at best.

World tour does not run well. I have a rog ally and the game runs 60 fps medium settings in arcade, even at 15 watt, if i double my watt and put everything at the lowest settings, i still cant hit 50 in world tour and i need to lock it to 30 because of slowdown... Which is also shit because the ally has vrr so 50 wouldn't even be that bad. Either way, world tour is the only modern fighter that i can't hit 60 fps on.

As someone who actively dislikes the current state of SF6, I will admit that I had more fun in the betas and launch 2 or so months then ive had in forever with street fighter. And was even having a blast prior to sf6s launch with gief in 5 since he also had a parry in that lol. Have to say the only thing the game is missing is real content like costumes and balance patches. I dont think ill ever like how drive rush combos work and have to be frame perfect but can see the game being amazing season 3 or 4. Also look at Tekken. They are actively patching balance and bugs. What has capcom done? A small patch with Ed. Cmon man, i dont wanna say it but it feels like shilling. Postlaunch has been a disaster imo

In regards to patches, I feel the exact opposite of you. I've been seeing people's reactions to Tekken and MK1's patches to their game, and instead of players being happy, they find themselves complaining even MORE. That alone tells me that Capcom has the right idea with doing only 1 big patch a year, and a few bug fixes and small adjustments here and there.

Because most top players are scrubs! Drive rush is a metered focus dash from for. You know, the focus dash in neutral that absorbed a hit making it a good fireball tool to get it on a fireball war! Don't be a scrub, drive rush is a great mechanic.
